Title: Graphics help... please =\
Post by: Anonymous on September 29, 2005, 07:23:38 am
I just got my new computer (-drool-) and finished setting it up, but theres some problem with my display. Whenever i view one of those videos on a website... it becomes similar to a 3 dimentional triangle and stretches to the top left of my screen. I also have this problem with a game called Ragnarok Online, for those of you who know it, the strange thing is that the background does not stretch, only the sign in windows become distorted, I think it may just be a crappy graphics card but im trying to avoid buying a new one >.> and if i dont need to i dont want to. (It's a Nvidia (GeForce 6600 i BELEIVE) PCI express x16) I have an AGP card.... unfortunately this mother board doesnt have an AGP slot o.o... And yes, I am ok with this sort of thing, but probably nowhere near as expert as you guys, so please lend me some help so i can get MxO working as soon as possible :) (Im not sure if i get this problem with MxO, the disks are at my other house >.<)

Right Click on desktop > Display Properties > "Settings" tab > "Advanced" button > "Adapter" tab and type the information from there.

I doubt it's PCIE if you don't have an AGP slot.  Are you running Windows drivers or the beta ones?

If he doesn't have a PCIE slot and a AGP,  then he really got screwed.

I bought it from Cyber Power... when i ordered it i ordered it to come with no graphics card, never could i have imagined that meant no AGP slot o.o since i already had the graphics card i wanted i ordered none to save some cash >.>  but there is no agp slot.... just a PCIE slot... Anywho heres the info Eroz:

Adapter Type NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT

Adapter Info:
Chip Type: GeForce 6600 GT
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Memory Size: 128 MB
Adapter String : GeForce6600 GT
Bios Information Version 5.43.02.16.A2

Thats it, I am going to buy a better graphics card than this eventually... I just want to make sure that it's the card that has the problem and this wont happen even if i buy a new one, its strange because it doesnt give me an error or anything telling me it cant display it.. it just glitches the hell out of it... Im still kinda pissed my Motherboard doesnt have an AGP slot o.o;; Can I get one and modify it somehow? Or would that require a whole new mother board... Yea stupid question but i just figured id ask -.-

Edit:
There is a tab named GeForce 6600 GT, heres the info from that (a bit more detailed if it helps at all):

If you have a PCIE then you're pretty much set, and AGP would be a step back.  Have you checked the fan on the card?

Yea, according to that information you have a Graphic card in your computer already. Maybe your using the onboard video and not the card. and the fan is a good idea to check, make sure that there is room between the video card and the next card. (I've had computers that have had the fan covered with the sound card.)

Fan is working fine, on both the motherboard and the card.... Im not sure if its using the integrated or the card.... in any case from what you guys say this card sounds like it should be able to play a basic game like RO and play the WindowsMedia imbeds fine

heh... don't disable the ide or you'll be turning off your hard drive and cd roms... (unless they are SATA)

Should be something simple like OnBoardVGA or a menu section with control for onboard components and would likely be named VGA or Video (go figure eh) ... yes i threw the eh in there just for you white :)

Heh, post 666  :roll1:

>> Well I have a feeling its a problem with my drivers and something isnt running correctly, because i reinstall the drivers and i still have the problem, and it is not simply a problem of ability, because if that was the case it would give me an error or not display it at all, no? So im buying a new card from a completely different maker to hopefuly get the problem fixed =\, first im going to try reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling all the drivers, but my computer had this problem when i first set it up, factory installed... So something in it is wrong =\

Ideas before i  buy a new video card?

And Rorin, that sounds great and all.... but which one?...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=Go&DEPA=0&type=&description=X700+Pro+256MB&Category=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

Eroz, my family is anything but rich. However I happen to be 14, so I have no bills :) My birthday was september first, and with my family I got some extra cash :) I have about 200 dollars or so in the bank right now just begging to be spent on my beloved compy <3 But anyways >.>

Out of those cards which would you recomend, im hoping to learn a little about cards and what makes them good and such. Because i see 256MB cards for cheaper than 128MB cards sometimes, and i figure theres gotta be a reason.

One last question for you pros, what's overclocking?... Everyones bitching up a storm (a good storm that is) about overclocking... and the newb here has no clue what it is or how to do it.. help please? :)
