Title: Yay for Xbox 360
Post by: Jeyk on November 22, 2005, 11:50:59 am
I have to say, I'm actually somewhat impressed, considering that I didn't think I'd like it.  I purchased two from Wal-Mart and was going to sell both on eBay, but I just HAD to open one up, and I fell in love with it.

Did anyone else get one? What are your thoughts and what games did you get?  I got Madden '06 and Perfect Dark Zero.  I'll have my hard drive tommorow so I can get on Live.

Nope I distinctly recall Ballard saying at a conference it was a global release, everyone at the same time.  Figures there would be a two week delay between America and Europe

Eh, my rig's nothing special.  I got the core system on a 24-inch Sanyo flat screen (not flat panel) TV, no HD, although I have composite on it.  For the audio I have some $99 Altec Lansing PC speakers hooked up to the audo jacks.  All in all, it's a pretty ghetto setup, but it works fine for me.

What made you fall in love with it then?  The shape?  Controllers?  Menu system?  Gfx?  Heh making me jealous now :p

I've got to admit, that's damn funny.  If I were rich, I'd bash in Xbox 360 in front of a crowd of fat guys to watch them sweat and squirm.  I love my 360 though, so I guess I'll let them do the dirty work. :(

P.S., currently listing mine for $999.99.  Let's see which fishies bite!  If it goes at that price I'll definately get rid of the second one and pre-order a bundle.  It's amazing what people will pay for something they really, really want.

I hear those things are crashing (http://engadget.com/entry/1234000743069364/) like crazy.  Though, I'm willing to bet it's a small handful of the things and is just being over-reported.  The kicker is that people are actually surprised.  As if they expected a Microsoft product to not crash.

I'll wait for the PS3.  Mmmm... shiny, reflective black casing.

I just saw a story on cnn i think about the xbox's crashing and the guy said that it isnt a widespread problem it is just that some of the people that are having this issue are very vocal about it and are telling eveyrone in blogs and message boards and making it sound worse than it is.

I hate you manic. I really really hate you. ;) hehe. I've been enjoying my (PREMIUM :)) 360 for a week now, it's the bees knees. if anyone has live, add Adrenaline801, ive been playing project gotham racing, and im quite addicted to it. I should have NFS:MW in a week or so as well, when mr. microsoft rep sends it to me. And no, mine hasnt crashed at all. :D

btw, I just saw a "x Masta Yoda x" on live, I wondered if it was our master yoda, but he hopped out of the race I was in so I didnt get a chance to ask him. hmm.

Dido Manic Xbox 306 have very bad overheating problem with the power brick. It has apperalty caused crashing, Freezing glitching and studdering. The officially MS says it is about 15% of all Xbox 360s. IMO 15% is just too high of a precent to chuck out. $500 buck for a system that even has a 1% chance of major F*** up isnt worth it. I paid for system that works not crash.

that's odd, because the ps2 had similar numbers iirc upon it's first launch. ive never been an xbox person, always a ps2 person, but I dig mine, and I've had no problems with it. I believe the numbers are fair being this is the first chance they've had to roll out that many units and put them in that many hands. Problems with other systems were found a lot slower, because they werent in as many hands to begin with. between various giveaways (re: mountain dew, comedy central, and many others) more people had this new system in their  hands for a launch day than any other previous system ever released. So the glitches (every system will always have some) were found on a widespread basis much quicker. The powerbrick has nothing to do with it, it supplies power. it causes the xbox to either be on or off. Mine's personally nowhere near mine, and mine's been running for a week straight without being turned off, playing dvd's, wmv's, vob files, mp3's streaming internet radio, playing 360 games, playing old xbox games, downloading newsfeeds and other rss content, among many other things Ive been trying to make it do, there's been much tinkering on it in the past week  :)  It's been a champ, I've been impressed with it.
I'm also glad the Microsoft isnt pulling a cisco on this and they are acknowledging it and taking care of it's customer's, and not sweeping it under the rug, pretending it's not happening or trying to cover it up *cough* ps2 drive laser problems *cough* :)

and that's my 2 cents. Im not trying to be an xbox fanboy, trust me im not, I infact despised xbox's in general till I got this one and started playing with it a little. im just trying to be fair. every system will have it's glitch, and the opposing fanboy party will jump on it the instant they can to boost whatever ego it is they think they're entitled to for owning their respective system. If you ask me, arguing about consoles is just about as effective as arguing with people on the internet. and you know the rest. :)

btw rorin: the correct word you were looking for to start off your post was 'ditto' :)

And look at all the problems that everyone has been having, and not ONCE has Nintendo been brought up having problems. My orginial NES still works fine, as does my 64, as does all of my gameboys (and I still have my big grey one), and I've seen a GC take a damn good beating and still work. So all you fanboi haters unite now and being your problems up, but their numbers will seem like an ant next to a giant. (The giant being M$ and Sony.)

Surely with a ratio of 1 Ninty owner to 200 Xbox/PS2 owners, there are bound to be less problems?  I mean, Ninty could test each product by hand before releasing it with those numbers.

By the way, this is pure flameage and not based in any facts or opinions of my own :D

It was one 360 per customer, first come, first serve; I was with Jeyk when he got the two systems. I almost creamed my pants holding it, and watching it be opened. I didn't have enough money to get my own, being that I just started my new job and had to catch up on bills. I sure as hell am getting one of my own though! That system is sweet, but I do recall that Microsoft products tend to have "kinks," if you will. After all, XP still has kinks and they still plan to release Vista next year. Oh well, I've rambled enough.

Yeah but, what's sweet about it?  Does it look cool?  Does it have innovative controls?  Are the games really good?  Details, people!

Just from video I have seen of NBA 2k6 that is the game that really shows the graphic power of this system.  I was floored when I saw the new cloth animation from the game.

Oh that, I will agree. I just saw the commercial and seeing sweat pouring off the player's faces is probably just about the coolest thing I've ever seen in a video game.

adrenaline said: "The powerbrick has nothing to do with it, it supplies power. it causes the xbox to either be on or off. "

This isn't true.  The power brick is the xbox's Power Supply Unit or PSU.  Just as in a PC if a PSU overheats or shorts out, it can cause system instability.

My advice to those with problems, plug  your XBOX's PSU into a UPS battery backup.  This will help give you cleaner more stable power.  Also don't put the XBOX or the power brick on carpet.  Put them far away from each other on a hard cool surface.  Think about maybe even putting them near a fan.

HTH

That's the last thing I'd want in my home console. They really shouldn't have rushed it into production and there probably wouldn't be as many problems

well, I have a good friend who works at circuit city.  He and his brother paid for a 360.  Took it home.  It crashes like a mofo.  THEN, their display model at circuit city... crashes... like a mofo.

Yes it's true that you can mail it to microsoft and they pay for shipping and will send you a new one.

But jesus christ.  15% of them being faulty?  More like 50-75%.  Even still lets say the numbers aren't fudged.  15% of however million is a HUGE number.

fuggin microsoft.

In their defence... I heard microsoft wasn't even the manufacturer.  They outsource it.  Someone told me the original xboxes were made by sega.

For People who dont think 15% percent is high that is 3:20 ratio of failing. LikwidTek ratios are 1:2 and 3:4. That is just way to many to fail. They only good thing is they are willing to fix it, but THEY SHOULDN"T HAVE TO!!!! Like i said before i refuse to spend $300-$400 dollars on some thing that has that high of a chance of breaking out of the box.
