Title: Possible trip to Chicago
Post by: Styan on December 08, 2005, 01:02:41 am
So I might be going to Chicago (Crystal Lake) for a few days this month if all the details get worked out.  I would likely be arriving on the 19th at either 8:00 am, or 1:45 pm (depending which flight I take).  Again details haven't really been worked out, but I will probably be sitting around while I wait for my aunt/uncle to get off work to come and get me at O Hare.  So if anyone thats in that area and available on the 19th wants to meet up with one of the crazy Canadians.. (I personally think Kosila is crazier than me but w/e) let me know and we can iron out details, if I am infact going down. I hope to know sometime next week if my aunt and uncle will be having me. (they are payin for me to go set up a computer :p)

Woo, I went to Chicago to meet up with FA. You need to talk to Fuse, Boombye, and GrimKitten. They're all in that area. I think Fuse moved further south into Illinois, but I know Boombye still lives in Chicago.

yeah, I actually moved to about 2 miles from where Grim is going to school. We're about 2 hours south of Chicago.
How long do you plan to be in town? If your around for the weekend I MIGHT be comming up then, but I'm not sure. Also, are you 21?

haha... Yes I'm 21, although unfortunantly its only a 3 day stint... Arrive 19th (am), Depart 22nd (am).  I just thought I'd throw it into the open and see if anyone was available.  If not, no biggie, at least I tried :D

On top of that I still don't know if my aunt and uncle are gonna have me go down. :S

interestingly enough, about an hour north of chicago is a city called Zion (http://www.cityofzion.com/):-D

but on a legitamate side note, my gf's family lives in mclean county about 20 minutes west of Normal (yes that's the name of a city). I was curious when Fuse said 2 hours south, did you mean 55 south?

Yes, I live in Bloomington now, which as you probably know, is the twin/sister city of Normal.

Enjoy your trip to Chicago.  Piece of advise though don't fly Southwest...

Southwest is the best airline carryer in the US.

The better advice is to not drive near Midway. =)

ooo oooo ooo!!!! i live in normal!!

they call it that to make us feel better, especially when you have the "normal fire department," the "normal police," and the "normal public library"  we even have a "normal mcdonalds" .... and yet that ghost chick in the library from ghostbusters .... yeah, that came from normal, too ;)

ah i looked all over for this story yesterday:
http://www.sltrib.com/ci_3288832?source=rss

it was published on some site in utah, but I read it on yahoo yesterday, it was one of the top news in the morning...
Says things like:

"Chicago is ''more homogenized, kind of Disneylike, in the sense that it is a city but there is something artificial about it,'' said Perry Duis, a University of Illinois at Chicago historian. ''The L (elevated trains), you take that away and you won't know where you are.''

Basically if you read the rest, it seems like these people never even lived in Chicago, or it seems like they merely lived here for a couple years and only saw what they wanted to see... Chicago hasn't changed much at all.. Plus these people complain so much about how Chicago is changing and blame city hall, all because a few businesses decided to move because they were losing money, and that has nothing to do with anyone in City Hall or anyone like that... I don't know, just seems these people don't know jack about Chicago, those that are quoted in this paper.

One thing I found interesting, was that qoute I put up, because it reminds me of the Matrix.. That and we had the most watertowers on rooftops, like in the films and games, even though that's more of a WB thing...

But I'm telling you, if you're on the road in downtown, take a peak into some downtown alleys, it looks like the set of a noir-film or something.

Anyways, Crystal Lake is very far from Chicago, it's about an hour and a half away or two hours away. In fact, I suspect it to be closer to Grim or Fuse. But if you guys ever wanna go eat somewhere in Downtown, just let me know and I'm down to go.

We need to take Styan to get Chicago pizza, Kronos meat Gyros, Vienna Hot Dogs, Maxwell St. Polish Sausages, and all the other good Chicago food.

Crystal Lake is about an hour½ northwest of the city. Me and Grim are 2 hours south.

I like Gino's East for authentic Chicago pizza, but don't get anything bigger than a small, even then, bring a couple friends.

Gino's is good stuff. Uno's and Duos are the best. Also you need to head to the Webber Grill....and Maggiano's...and Gene & Judes....

I could go on forever.
