-
I thought the Gladiator soundtrack was pretty good.
-
All the American Pie soundtracks kicked ass.
And today, the way I will look at music videos was changed forever. Possibly the video to save videos from mediocrity came out. The new Linkin Park video, "Breaking the Habit", was introduced to the general public today. Even though its anime, trust me, its like some bizarre film noir story. ITs kicks the proverbial ass.
And for good measure, "Ch-check it Out", the new beastie boys song, also kicks the "proverbial" ass.
-
Linkin Park blooooooooooooooooooows. People only listen to em because mtv plays them.
Beastie Boys ROCK!!, especially the checi it out video. I loooooooved it.
On the subject of music videos though, best video ever ever ever would have to be Fat Boy Slim's Weapon of Choice video with Christopher Walken. After that comes some crazy eighties music video i saw once, followed by toxic.
-
the best video ever, ever in history was"Smack My Bitch Up"
Not for the light hearted.
And as for youre linkin park statement, thats why they sell 14 million albums. Why do people keep those 14 million albums? Because they are the best mainstream band right now. And just check out the linkin park video. I hated "Smack my Bitch UP" as a song, but still, the video does kick, *ahem*, the proverbial ass.Its more of a mini movie than a music video.
-
Like you said, they sell 14 million albums cos they are on MTV. Like i said, people keep the 14 million albums because it be a wsate to throw away something they spent $15 dollars. The second linkin park goes off MTV and is gone from "mainsteram" 99% of those albums will be lost in the backs of closets excluding the select few who actually like them, replaced by whatever new band everyone is listening too.
-
hmmmm.....well, youre lucky if you ever see them on mtv anymore....except for mtv2, in which many, many good bands are on(incubus, velvet revolver, and suprisingly, theyre now even playing AFI) you wont see them any more. And the point of my post was to say that the video kicks the proverbial ass. Not that linkin park is like the best band. And just like any band, you listen to whats new. Only bands that have lasting power(normally bands like velvet revolver or NOFX) get your attention 10 years later.
FUSE is by far the better channel I mean come on, they have Taking back Sunday, and they play only actual rap music. Not the ja rule and ashanti crap MTV plays.
-
I dont have FUSE anymore i dont think :(. The best was The Box, they played good music non-stop all night and then porn. I dont know how that got figured out but it rocked.
-
Heh, the Box was the best. Even though all they played during the day was N'Sync, britney spears and Eminem. Nothing wrong with eminem, but i could do without crappy pop.
That sucks that you dont have FUSE. FUEL also has some good music, although its mainly punk. Thats were i first heard Pennywise. Greatest single event in my music appreciation life.
-
I love Taking Back Sunday. Can't wait for their new cd to come out (July 27th!). FUSE is much better than MTV. I can't stand MTV because it's controlled pretty much by TRL, and that's the worst show ever. It's so pointless. If it wasn't for The Real World and Pimp My Ride, I think the network should be cancelled. I believe true fans of bands come only if you knew about the band before they were on MTV or FUSE.
Also, if you like funk music, then you may want to pick up the Muppets From Space soundtrack.
-
Guys, You raelly are forgetting the matrix soundtrack, I mean look at this site! As if it couldn't remind you. I must say that a grl in the red dress is an absoulutely awesome song!
-
Rage Against the Machine all the way! They are the best music for MxO blatently. Possibly some other rave music or something like that would be good, but I know what I like :)

-
Oh i forgot Hedwig and the Angry Inch! That movie/soundtrack is awesome!
Getting back to MTV - I really don't watch anything on there anymore. Partially because the music they play just really doesn't appeal to me for the most part, and partially because they don't even play music anymore. Seriously, what do 'Taildaters', 'True Life' and 'Roomraiders' have to do with music? I'd mention 'Pimp My Ride' in that list as well, but I've seen a few episodes of that show and I don't care if it has nothing to do with music because the things they do to those cars are so ridiculously over-the-top that it's worth watching every now and again.
But lately, it seems like MTV's been tailoring to pre-teen pop followers and pre-teen 'punk' kids - or rather, kids who think Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne are punk (*cough* Ramones?! Sex Pistols?! *cough*). Maybe I'm just getting older, but I really don't like the new MTV scene.
-
MTV is mostly crap, it has it's good moments, which are:
out of 2 seasons or something there was at least 18 seconds of entertainment to be had from Punk'd...and Ashton is dreamy, er..I Didn't say that.
Britney Spears vids = Softcore Pron.
Made. Now this show by itself = pure shite, but Alex Zane commenting over the top, making cynical and sarcastic comments throughout make it worth watching.
and Busted.
Rock ON!!!!!
oh yeah, I forgot the [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags on that last one.
I don't think I've ever watched MTV...MUSIC televison, actually for the music...
meh.
random babbling = over now
-
ive noticed over the years, since i watched MTV since the very beginning, that it no longer plays music videos....unless at like midnight when it has nothing else to play, remmeber back in day when it played like 2 music videos over and over again. those were the days.
Zink
-
The only good show ever to come out of MTV was Beavis and Butthead, which also inspired Nick to allow Ren and Stimpy (one of the greaterst shows of all time). O ya, and Daria was funny too. But MTV really sucks ass now.
-
oh ill be nice.
-
I thought this was the Music Thread, not the let's bash MTV into the ground because they suck thread. Seriously though I'm with you guys all the way MTV blows so badly now, you get tired of watching the same old stuff when you're supposed to be watching videos. Oh well no way we can change it, we'll just hve to live with it and boycott MTV.
-
Seriously? wait wait wait. I just wanna make sure. Are you serious???
MTV suuuuucks. So do reality tv shows. Those reaaaaaaaaallllly suck. Almost as bad as MTV. But you know what is good? Music that is good.
Okay im just rambling pointlessly cos i have nothing better to do. Koalas. So who likes koalos huh? they are sooooo cool.
-
LMAO Some we need invest in getting you some help because I worry about you. Besides that I'm on your side about MTV and reality shows suck, I'm so sick of them it's unreal. They're the whole reason I don't watch TV anymore with the exception of Law and Order.
-
Law and Order was a great show when it originally came out. I still watch it every once in a while, but I don't really like SVU.
The shows I usually watch:
The Simpsons
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Family Guy - which they're bringing back to Fox!
SNL
24
Alias
Chapelle's Show
The Sopranos - Even though I don't like the way the portray Italians!
I used to watch Smallville but then I realized I really don't like the recycled plot-lines and shameless teenaged drama that shows on the WB usually thrive on. It was an OK show though - Lex Luthor's one of my favorite villains.
-
The Family Guy RULES!!! I love the Sopranos as well and as far as your statement about how they portray Italians get used to it because I'm here to tell you they act alof like that. I should know I'm mainly Italian even though I have alot of other bloodlines in my family. Can't forget Futurama, got to love Bender!
-
My big issue with the Sopranos is that it makes it seems as though anyone who's Italian is naturally a member of the mafia. We're not all hunting people down with ice picks and baseball bats! Sure, some are, but every culture has a mob - Irish, Jewish, Russian, Japanese. The Sopranos just portrays Italians as a bunch of low-life sex hounds with no moral boundaries. However, the acting is really good, and worth watching, so I can ignore my other issues with the show.
I personally prefer mob-related TV/film that's more like the Godfather. The whole idea of honor and family pride seems more glorified in those films than in the Sopranos. But eh, that might just be my opinion, but a lot of the other Italians I know tend to agree with me.
-
linkin park dude all the way WOOT WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
You gotta love Family Guy, its not like one of those things you can ignore, like the squid...
-
lol i love family guy, so many memorable bits. Half the time it just gets you laughing because its so random: I love the bit where Jesus is at the party and he says.. "For my next miracle, I'm going to turn this water.. inta FUNK!!" and they all start disco dancing.
-
I have very eclectic (sp?) music tastes, and I like ALOT of different music. Here is some of what I like:
Oldies
Marvin Gaye's music brings everybody to the yard
The Temptations
The Five Heartbeats
The Sumpremes
Al Green
The Isley Bros. (who still make music)
etc etc there are so many ppl I can't remember
Rock/Punk W/E
Evanescence
Linkin Park (their CD Meteora was all great songs - and this ahs nothing to do with MTV)
The Vines
Puddle Of Mud
Staind
The Foo Fighters
Adema
The Darkness
Nickelback
New Found Glory
Pop
Some of Christina Aguliera (sp?)
Janet Jackson
Maroon 5
A couple of Madonna's songs
Rap/R&B/Hip-Hop
Nas
Kanyae West
Tweet
Ashanti
Aaliyah
Missy Elliot
Brandy
The Black Eyed Peas
Outkast
P. Diddy
R. Kelly
Angie Stone
Jill Scott
India Arie
Erykah Badu
Alicia Keys
Luther Vandross
Whitney Houston
Musiq Soulchild
Smooth Jazz
I don't really know any artists for this genre, but I love its music none the less - it's so relaxing.
I don't really have all of the ppl I like up on there, but I like msotly ALL kinds of music - cept for classical (sorry) but yeah.
Oh and as for Soundtrakcs
The Matrix - of course
Spiderman
-
So what you cud have summarized this as is: I like all music except classical. And by the way classical kicks ass.
24 (second best show ever)
A-Team (best show ever)
Kung Fu (just a really kickass show)
Family Guy (Funniest show ever)
Simpsons (its a classic, though sometimes they seem to run out of ideas, especially with the newer ones. I prefer the earlier seasons)
Chappelle's Show (Dave Chappelle is one of the top stand up comedians out there)
Family Guy kicks ass, i got all the seasons on dvd. And the news that they were bringing it back to fox brought tears to my eyes.
And just so everyone knows, Russian and Irish mobs are the best!
-
There a new episodes of Family Guy on Cartoon Network, which I'm sure most of you know. But I had no idea it was coming back to Fox. So good. Also, there is a Canadian mob. I know this because my family used to be friends with some people who's family was in the Canadian mob. I know it's funny to think about...I mean, a Canadian mob? But it's true. As for other tv shows, CSI has usually has good music in it.
-
My tv never leaves Cartoon Network lol, I'm glued to it when adult swim comes on, " hey Frylock, you have a cloner?" lol and some times I'll watch animal planet.. n discovery channel..but I think I'll go back to sleep now...*yawn looks sick* good night
-
lol canadian mob. Eh, i'll kill you. Or maybe ill just alk funny until you leave, eh. Canada is cool.
Also, i don't beleive those FG epidsodes on Cartoon Network are new. i think they are just reruns.
-
They are except for the one that Fox wouldn't put on the air but Cartoon Network would. Just to let you know it was funny as hell and after seeing it I understood why they didn't air but funny nonetheless. I agree with you though Siren, the Godfather movies are awesome but in light of that subject keep in mind that they're are two different Italian mobs. The one here in America and the one in Italy.
-
well, not that this is the tv show thread, here are my fav shows(most of which are on comedy central)
South Park-Little kids that curse. Whats better than that?
Chappelles Show-Hate him as a stand up, but his shows funny.
Reno 911-This show was so stupid and made no sense. Awesomely bad, but great.
Futurama-I love this show. I personally think this was a gem of a show, much better than family guy. Although I seem to be alone in thinking this.
Friday Night Stand Up-Stand up is awesome. This just showcases some of the best(Dane Cook, Stephen Lynch, Pablo Fransico, Gabriel Iglesias, Bruce Bruce)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/The last season of Angel-Spike is one of my favorite TV characters of all time. And I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is hot.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force/The Brak Show-Both these adult swim shows I discovered about 3 or 4 years ago. These are gems in their own right. If only a real network would get some balls....
Anime Shows-This is deep dark secret:I love anime. Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin, Heatguy J, I even like the first season of Digimon. I hate the dumb ripoff anime like Inuyasha. I hate DBZ, but thats only because every other anime is so much better.
And to bring it back to topic, these are my favorite rappers:
Jay-Z
Eminem
Kanye West
Jadakkiss
Andre 3000
DMX
Xzibit
and of course....THE BEASTIE BOYS!!!!! CH-CHECK IT OUT!!!!!lol
-
They are except for the one that Fox wouldn't put on the air but Cartoon Network would. Just to let you know it was funny as hell and after seeing it I understood why they didn't air but funny nonetheless. I agree with you though Siren, the Godfather movies are awesome but in light of that subject keep in mind that they're are two different Italian mobs. The one here in America and the one in Italy.
What was the episode about? I wanna know if i've seen it before.
-
It was when Peter was trying to find him a jewish accountant to do his taxes to get him alot of money. The whole way through it was just wrong but funny as hell nonetheless especially the song Peter sings about if he only had a jew.lol
P.S. No offense to anyone.
-
Yes, even Fox thought the show producers had over-stepped their boundaries with that episode. Personally, I can't say whether or not I found it offense as I am not Jewish, but I have a few Jewish friends who saw and said they weren't too put off by it.
One important thing to remember with Family Guy (And Chapelle's show now that I think of it) is that you really can't take things too seriously, because it's meant to be funny not offensive, however I recognize people do get offended in the process.
My favorite episodes of Family Guy were the "To Live and Die in Dixie" episode (where the family moves to the deep South), "Holy Crap" (where Peter kidnaps the Pope), "Da Boom" (where an apocalypse forces the family to go on a quest for a Twinkie factory) and the "Mr. Saturday Knight" (where Peter becomes a Medieval jouster).
My favorite Chapelle's show episode is the one where Charlie Murphy tells a story about his adventures in the early 90s with Rick James ("Cocaine is an amazing drug..." and "I'm Rick James Bitch, enjoy yourself!"). But the Lil' Jon sketches...amazing.
Reno 911 is also an awesome show. Which reminds me of Super Troopers, an awesome movie.
-
FYI The Mafia is from Sicily, not Italy.
I love Da Boom. Is that the one where the chicken gives Peter the bad coupon and they fight for about 10 minutes non stop. It's absolutely hilarious. I love the bit in Da Boom where the guy in the wheelchair is half in the ground and this massive cockroach comes to attack him and he screams 'Bring IT OOON!'.
-
Omg Joe...So funny. I know this guy who sounds exactly like him and he does Joe immitations all the time.
Like the episode where everyone's talking about what they got with their tax refund and Joe's talking about how he got a surround sound system with headphones. Then the scene cuts to him watching a Steven Seagal movie in bed with the headphones on and then he's just starts screaming "YES! LOCK AND LOAD! LOCK AND LOAD! BRING ON THE PAIN!"
Soooooo good. But we can't forget Quagmire - Gigidy gigidy!
-
Newbie here.....I agree with all of you, Chapelle's show is excellent, Crackhead Tyrone kills me, thankfully its finally on dvd. Curb Your Enthusiasm is also pretty hilarious but you have to have liked Seinfeld.
I liked Supertroopers too Siren, I acidentally stumbled on it on cable and couldn't stop laughing, "Meow" too funny. Those guys came out with another movie (Club Dread), anyone know if that was any good?
-
FYI The Mafia is from Sicily, not Italy.
Yeah I know these things just didn't feel like pointing it out.
-
I also love the programme ripoffs in family guy, although some of them I thenk you have to be from America to understand. I love the good times one where he keeps screaming "DI-NO-MIIITE!!" and the little house on the prairie one where he keeps making the blind girl walk into things. I also remember the teacher bit where he says: "Today kids, we're going to dissect.. a clown!!... Oh... no wonder this clown died.. his lungs were filled with.. CANDY!!" (to delighted cries of children as candy sprays around the room) haha its such a funny program thanks for reminding me guys
-
<------ all i have to say 8)
-
The chicken seen from Da Boom is my favorite scene from any Family Guy. I can't really pick a favorite episode though, they're all just too damn funny. My favorite Chapelle's Show clips are the Playa Hata's Ball, the Black White Supremecist, and the one thats like a history channel story about the gang battles where he steps on the sneakers.
-
My favorite Chapelle's Show clips are the Playa Hata's Ball, the Black White Supremecist, and the one thats like a history channel story about the gang battles where he steps on the sneakers.
That clip was HILARIOUS! So was the one where Charlie Murphy plays basketball aganist Prince.
"Game...Blouses..."
And also the one where Dave and John Mayer do a study on the effects of electric guitar on white people.
-
The best skit I thought was that "Piss on You" and "Piss on You Remix" songs. Those were pure genious in my mind.
And they had this really hot spanish chick in there. Sorry, but she is just soooo freaking hot. just had to mention it since were way off topic anyway. I guess thats why the boards called "off-topic"
-
ok the ruler of all things tv is here to put his foot down: the best family guy scene is from Mr. Griffin goes to washington and is where peter meets the his new company suck up. the best chappeles show skit is well, any that involve Tyrone, and as for spanish chicks, yes they are hott. (I love telamundo)
anyway, back to music, i know its a local music site with a bunch of local bands but go to www.stlpunk.com look around at the bands but you have to listen to Sophomore they effing rock.
The master has spoken
-
There needs to be a family guy thread
-
Then make one.
-
"This is the remix edition, of that song about pissin'..."
Hilarious.
-
"roll around sittin on dubs, cat my eyes was high on shurbs, coolin in my escilade man im paid i got it made, take me to your special place close your eyes show me your face, im gonna piss on it"
-
Well, i think its time to revive this thread properly.
And why not start by asking has anyone else picked up that new Beatie Boys album? Im sure a lot of people are gonna think its way to political but that is what rap should be, plain and simple. Not "I got thousands of bitches who wanna have sex with me all the time" and "I have more money then youll make in your lifetime"
-
My brother got the new Beastie Boys album. He actually was mentioning the same thing the other day - about it being very political. I personally haven't listened to the album yet, but I wouldn't mind if it was politics-geared. It'd be a nice change, considering the rest of today's rap.
-
I would just like to state that the Immigrant Song by Led Zepplin is awesome. Thank you for your time.
-
In that case Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb from The Wall. One of their best songs ever!! Thank you this has only been a test.
-
1.led zepplin
2.grafeul dead
3.pink floyd
4.the ramones
5.AC/DC
6.black sabbath
7.jimmi hendrix
8.gun n' roses
9.the darkness
10.the doors
11.a flock of seaguls
-
That list almost looks like VH1's 100 best heavy metal bands but with some differences.
-
WHAT is everyones fascination with The Darkness? I don't understand it at all and probably never will.
-
I'd say it's because it's a modern band with those old hairband vibes. It's not "in the norm" and a lot of people like that (including myself).
-
Sorry to say it but The Darkness and I don't mix. I'll stick with my bands and I'll try to stray from hairbands considering I grew up with them and I thought rock was dead in the 80's but that's my opinion.
Just in case you want to know my music choices they're in this thread just don't remember what page though.
-
In that case Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb from The Wall. One of their best songs ever!! Thank you this has only been a test.
Brain Damage/Eclipse is better. Sorry man. DARK SIDE OF THE MOON ROCKS!!! WOOT WOOT! PINK FLOYD FOREVER!!!
Also, Hybrid, excellent taste in music.
-
You damn right Pink Floyd rocks! Honestly, my favorite song by them is Us and Them.
