A few people were asking me how The Omen went, and well.... it was different. It was better than the origional, to be sure, but not quite 'top five scariest movies of all time' worthy. If you're looking for scary, you might want to wait to rent this one, on a bored night. If you're looking for interesting directorial ideas and plot line/charachter development you're in luck.

It'll make you jump as far as pop-out-at-you-from-nowhere stuff, and you'll cringe from part of the story line (not nearly as bad as Silent Hill, but close) and it's definately not gory at all. I really think that if they focused more on the recent "signs" of the Apocolypse and made it seem more real, more pressing, it really would have had more of an impact. Other than that, well acted (with a few exceptions on Julia Stiles' part) and well directed. 1. Take notice of the colorization of things, especially the color red, anytime it pops up. 2. It's fun to find little easter eggs of 6's in there. Count phone rings, number of people, sequences of buildings, etc. 3. You'll want to punch that creepy little brat. But I still cried on the "Please Daddy, don't do it." I realized how hard it would have been to kill your own child, even if he is the Anti-Christ.
Questions, if you seen it.... Why did eveything start on the kid's 5th birthday? Wouldn't it be more fitting if it was his 6th? Or was everything leading up to his 6th? And why did the priest, Father Brennen, also have the 666 birthmark? A friend suggested because he was the 'prophet' but I don't know.... what do ya think?

Have ya seen the original Lits? Just curious how you thought they compare.. I haven't seen the new one yet.
The 5th birthday party is actually the start of Damiens 6th year on Earth, I'm not sure if that might explain a connection; 5th Birthday is from the original and hasn't been changed.
I cannot recall if there are as many "6" symbols/references in the original, so they may have just kept this 5th birthday to stay true to the original (which may or may not have played with the 6 idea through the film).
Gregory Peck lost his son about a year before the original was filmed.
When he had to do the "Daddy don't kill me scene", he couldn't do it. The director persuaded him to do one take with, and one take without - and the best one would be shown.
The rest is history.... unless they changed it in this remake!!

Wow Ket, I didn't know that. Yes, I have seen the origional, many many years ago. I'll have to go rent it again to be able to compare. *calls up Heironymus* Good point on the 6th year on earth, I didn't think about that.

I'll tell you, I dont think it was as good as the original. I was a little dissapointed, but overall it was a good movie. I hoped they wouldn't go the scare-you-by-pooping-creepy-shit-up route, but they suucumbed to unimaginative film making. That said, they did one thing that I feel well surpassed the original. The death scenes were filmed in such a way that made you feel as if there was an invisible hand pushing the events along. There's a Final Destination feel to some of teh death sequences. The first movie made very short work of the death sequences (with the exception of Mummy dearest's) and this one managed to drag out some of them and added suspense to the overall film. With the exception of only one character, the acting was better in this film all around. Okay, enough babbling. Just go see it.

I liked it. I haven't seen the original, though; I'll definately check it out.
