Title: Vista
Post by: Anonymous on August 11, 2006, 11:22:51 am
Is anyone (successfully) running Vista on their PC yet?  And MxO also?  I just started using Office 2007 and like the interface, wanted to extend it out a bit to the rest of my apps but I'm worried about compatibility issues and suchlike...!

Whenever i get some money and buy a new harddrive im going to install vista on my existing harddrive and if i remeber i will try to get mxo and stuff to run. last time i installed it, i downloaded it off a torent before it was a public release and it didnt really like running at all then, so i didnt really mess with it. but now i got beta 2 on disc with key so im good to go now.

Tried it last night, wouldn't boot - even in safe mode.  Just blue screen then kaput.  So I used the rollback function... and it worked!  I'm not back to normal XP and waiting for the next release...

Reckon it must have been a driver issue.

K, time for an update.

Still no luck upgrading.  I almost got there the other day by removing every program it said it would be incompatible with (I'm not desperate, I like to try new things) but it still blue screened and I couldn't find any info on the error.  I suspect it was because of the Daemon Tools virtual device drivers.  Anyway, now when I try to upgrade (on 5536) it gets to 5% of file copying and says it has encountered and error and cannot continue (yes, that's all it says), then it rolls back.  The error log indicates it's an issue with a driver pack, but even though I wipe all install traces it still doesn't work.

However, on a new partition on my drive it works fine under a fresh install.  I had no network driver so I had to download it on my laptop and transfer it over but otherwise it's stable and very sound.  The system is smooth and intuitive, but still basically a Windows 95 whore in prettier makeup and with some new gadgets.  It's a significant graphical upgrade but it's nothing new after a short while of use.  Get it if you can find space for a clean install (even on an external drive).

Now the bad news - right now it doesn't run MxO.  I get as far as "starting world" which is basically the last item of the second loading screen, and nothing happens.  It doesn't lock up - the mouse moves, you can alt-tab etc, but it never loads into MxO.  I crashed out and submitted a report, tried it in compatibility mode, but nothing.  It hogs memory and CPU (334MB memory and 95% CPU) so this is most likely where the problem is.  I don't play anything else on here so I can't tell if it's MxO or games in general.

Anyway if you have questions, please ask.  I'm using Client Ultimate by the way.

I tried to run it on VMWare, after it successfully installed all the files the Virtual Console wouldn't boot beyond the virtual Bios... unfortunantly I don't have to time to re-setup partitions on my current setup for dual boot.  Ah well. fun while it lasted... (which wasn't very long)

Damn NDA wont let me tell you about vista *yeah right*

Basically, MS themselves say Upgrade is NOT the way to go.
Vista RC 1 is in my hands right now for testing, and we have been testing since Feb with previous versions.

Vista runs very well on our tests. No problems at all.
Lots of gimmicks.

Styan, there is some VM tweaking you need to do for this.
I think you have to format as FAT32 first (or was it NTFS) then install and let it do another format (depending on the build you are trying).

Upgrade seems to work for a lot of the usenet users, and should have worked well for me, but driver incompatiblity as always seems to be an issue.  I haven't yet tested the file/settings transfer option...

Alright well i found an extra 30 gig harddrive laying around my house and last night i installed the latest pre-rc1 vista(dont have acess to rc1 yet) on it so it was a clean install nothing else there, i used the beta vista drivers for my 6800gt and for my nforce4 chipset/audio etc. I had no problems really doing anything, it seems really stable and i kinda fell like using it as my main os for now but that would be to much trouble for me.

So the big question does MxO run on Vista. Short answer...NO.

I tied everything i could think of, I have both launcher.exe and matrix.exe and have them in compat mode for windows xp sp2 and i have them running as administrator processes and still nothing.
You can start the launcher log in and go to the loading area but you cant actually jack into the matrix. It stops at starting world at the very end of the progress bar. Which i was hopeing that if you i messed around with some setting it would eventually work but nothing.

And oh yeah I am posting from Windows Vista right now.
