Title: Your first encounter with FA? Recruiting story?
Post by: Fuse on October 25, 2006, 04:47:03 pm
2 years and 13 days ago I made this post:
http://bluepill.followtheangel.org/viewtopic.php?t=66

Jan 1, 2005 my request was put in:
http://thefuriousangels.com/index.php?msg=23965

and then:
http://thefuriousangels.com/index.php?msg=25263

Heh, I told you we'd cross paths soon, T.

Beta was a blast, as we all know. FA had MxO wrapped around it's finger. There was even talk about PAYING certain factions for what would have been the equivalent of LESIG. Guess which faction they had in mind? Putting on the FA tag meant the elite of the elite when there were no other powerhouse factions - any that did exist were known mostly for having a rivalry with us.

I took my time choosing a faction. I had been invited to many, but hate factions that blindly invite. You get a bad mix of personalities. After knowing about FA for over a mont of playing beta I made that post just to make my presence known. 2 months went by and I think it was Believe who was able to arrange an interview for me. Jan 05 I got my wings with the first and only mxo faction I would have. I was very selective in who I CHOOSE, and the acomplishments, intelligence, respect, and support of the members of this faction, old and new, still keeps me entertained and happy I didn't blindly accept a factions invite - I wouldn't have fit in with TheCollective anyways. Ahhh, this game and faction has been a huge part of my daily routine for 2 years. Thanks friends.

============

So what's your first encounters with FA? Rumors you heard? First time seeing us in game? First time out of game? First impressions?

I joined a small faction called the Children of Zion, I turns out that they had just had a major faction fight and two groups left the faction to start their own factions. Someone had just happen to post the URL to Tbone orginal site (which was taken off shortly after), which I followed and completed the challenge within 30 minutes. And a few days later Tbone email me and requested an interview (mainly because he knew still had connections in CoZ and knew that I was with them.) I had me Ventrillo interview on April 1, 2004. And I think I got my email to join the site 30 minutes after the interview.

I was the third member (not counting Tbone) to login. The first was Tbone's brother, Zero, and a member that followed Tbone from CoZ(their was another faction in the middle, but I forget the name), Enoc. We didn't get another member for about 2 more weeks, but once we did, they really started rolling in. I quickly took over the job of keeping track of all the information of the members (Name, Email, Location, Age, IM's, etc), and once we knew we were going to have more then 12 members we opened up the second ship on our forums (it was already created just not active). I was quickly asked to captain that ship, and accepted the job. I kept up with keeping the information for quiet awhile, until Lithium (under a different name, bonus points if you know it, Lithium you don't count.) and Ketamininja sat down and created the site we mostly have now.

Lately I just been lurking the forums, and jump into TeamSpeak every little often. I plan to get back in the game once I find a paying job.

I love getting credit for stuff I didn't do. :) Actually I didn't create the site. It was likwidtek. And it was defiantly not Ket either as Ket didn't join til Jun. Things shaped up quickly once Ket jumped on board as he is responsible for the majority of our custom modules.

Of course there are tons others who should take credit for what the site is now. Believe (lots graphics), Kosila (Coding), Ket (The Real Coder), Tbone, Likwid, myself, Ratio, (Seven -- before he fucked us), and others who have made tons of small contributions.

Anyway the point I'm trying to make is, because of awesome teamwork we have what we see now!

That faction was actually called Children of the Final Resistance. The Ragnarok hovercraft broke apart from it due to leadership problems the same week I joined up. The Ragnarok was mostly European and they didn't have many ambitions, so Enoc and I left that crew to form a faction based on ideas I had for the Ragnarok at the time. Keep in mind this is back when there were only three or so decent factions at most.

Jeez how the hell am I meant to remember this stuff...?  I remember back in Beta I was on a non-hositile non-Euro world, don't ask me which one my memory is too bad.  I started Merv because it looked cool, until Beta ended when I switched to Zion.  I switched over to a Euro server during the period they offered the option with my L21 char and joined a really crappy faction who would only take L15+ chars.  They were very disorganized, somewhat intolerant and only had a Proboard to share info on.  Most of the players were men using female RSIs and part-time PvPers, it was sort of like a drag wrestling federation.

I did a Google search on a few keywords and came across Glace's blog where he mentioned joining FA.  I delved a bit deeper, found the video and was highly impressed.  I signed up in ZMF, wet myself every time Ket contacted me to see how I was doing, because back them yall seemed pretty famous and untouchable.

So long story short, I took the challenge, mumbled my way through the interview (half using a press-to-talk key which produced an irritating durrrrrrr sound and half forgetting to hit press-to-talk).  Afterwards I told Eroz I was sorry for screwing up and he told me it was cool (Eroz remains to this day my favorite established Angel).

And the rest is histoire mon amis.

To this day I've no idea how I got accepted.

If anyone remembers Adrenaline, he was a personal friend of mine.  He encouraged me to join FA when he saw that I had decided to join ML soon after launch.  He said if I made it through the challenge, then he would put in a good word for me.

My first in-game interaction with FA was during the Race To Find The One event.  System broadcasts were being sent out by Agent Gray.  I was standing at Midian West and I saw Gabe sitting on a bench in his uniform.  He said "And so it begins."  Chaos ensued that night all throughout Mega City.

I thought it was cool that FA always seemed to be in-character, and that's what I was really looking for in a faction.  A group of people who wanted to make their mark on Matrix history.  ML, and no other faction that I could see, fit that description.  So I registered an account on the website and started the challenge.

After two months, I earned my interview and was accepted the next day.

Still proud as ever to be a part of the best, most recognized, and most envyed faction in the game.

Furious Angels represent!

EDIT: Ah, the memories... (http://bluepill.followtheangel.org/viewtopic.php?p=3723)  I was such an eager little potential.

EDIT AGAIN: So many missing names from this thread (http://thefuriousangels.com/index.php?msg=35613).  :(

I thought CoZ sounded wrong. But Three or so? What CoFR and The Collective? Then CoFR died quickly, and we took over. Then it was the Collective and us. Aha the good old days of beta and fighting in 01.

My story's slightly less interesting. Tbone showed me the video back in December of 2005. I tried not to laugh at him and call him a geek, though I was secretly very impressed with the video. He kept getting me to try the game, so I finally bought it, upgraded my computer some, and set up. The first 3 mins ingame I was hooked. I stepped out of the HardLine and there were at least 8 FA sitting there in uniform waiting for me. I remember I ran away from someone who approached me trying to give me buffs because I was afraid :). Seeing all of you there in uniform really made an impression on me, and the first time I put on the uniform I thought I was part of something really special, really rare. You couldn't get me to give up my wings now if you offered me the world :)

Nope that was all Likwidtek until the last several months. I hosted TS and Vent a couple times over.

I was so scared to take the challenge, I figured because i had been red, that I'd never have a chance, but Pirus and Dmax and many others kept telling me that i just needed to try. I took longer then I would have liked to on the challenge, but I think that was mainly because I kept making things harder then they actually were.
The day that Broin sent me the tell asking me if I was ready for my interview I was nervous as hell..lol..I told my husband he was in charge of our son and I got into TS. I don't think job interviews even made me as nervous as I was for the FA interview.
At first I didn't know if I'd fit in or not, but in the short time that I still had my 50  :2'(  available to me, I loved hanging out with everyone, and I can't wait to be able to come back, hopefully soon, and get back into the game with everyone.
So, that's my cheesy story, heh. The end :2d

immediately after the sever merge, I was level 50 and I saw a very low level FA being attacked by 2 reds. being the genius I am I interverned and the reds ran. The angel, I do not recall who, thanked me very politely.

I was impressed because I watched the fight for a little and he was not rolling out (remember this is before CR2 so no real drama to roll out) and acted with dignity even though he was being painfully ganked!

The first angel I saw in game was MasterYoda, kicking the crap out of 3 mervs single handidly at the hardline next to jacob's ladder. The first one I talked to was Orien, at Mara Central.

For my challenge, I used Ket as my angel, but only because my roommate at the time also used him :-p
Ket was very friendly on aim and gave me enough hints to get through the riddles I had trouble with.

I thought I had pissed off Eroz when I bugged him about one of the riddles, he was like "You know I didn't have to give you any help at all" (so be grateful :-p)

I felt very intimidated for a while even after joining. Eh, I still am kinda, I just try to be brazen to cover it up (working on that).

My angel was Orien, not for any particular reason other than he was the first to post with TBone in the Mxo FA thread... During my quest, I only got help from Da6 with the in-game challenge since I knew him from the priory.

I cannot remember any real encounters with them before joining... I recall hearing about them ALL THE TIME on RFZ during beta especially.  It just seemed like the geatest team to join in any game, and I sll believe that.  When I first saw Broin and TBone in game, it was when I already earned an interview, and to be nerdy but honest, I was too excited and nervous just to see them in game...haha... good times FA, good times.

Thinking about it I just want to thank TBone and all the guys (and girls) who made and still make this faction so amazing and memorable.

I probably have the craziest story of all of you.

My contact was AcidicPlague. I had never met anyone in-game. I had heard about the challenge through some news site and went to do the Challenge. I think I saw Acidic's name on the forum for some reason, and it went through.

I had actually started the path way back before Launch, but quit until October when I couldn't figure out one of the puzzles. The one I was stuck on was the Jabberwocky poem. The password was Jabberwocky, and the username was AcidicPlague. It took me a long time to get that for some reason. I never even realized that I was supposed to enter in Acidic's username until Ket pretty much plainly told me. It then took me about a month and a quarter to finish the entire path, the main hard one being the Oracle and Reading one. I'll admit I probably asked too many questions of people in-game about the Challenge, assuming they had the answers to all the questions.

So, I waited for my interview. Two weeks. Nothing. Four weeks. It's getting around Christmas time, so I don't blame them and think nothing of it. Eight weeks. Ok, guys, this is taking a while. January 22 I mailed Destyn asking what was up, and said he'd check. A few hours later, I got a mail saying that I was rejected. I, at first, thought Tbone was mad at me for asking when my interview would be as he might have wanted me to be patient. So I mailed Destyn a second time to see what was up. I was becoming sadder and sadder by the moment.

I then got an in-game e-mail from Tbone sometime in early February. I guess I had pestered him enough to make him write me reasons why I was rejected. It had turned out that my IP was the same as a G7G member and that I was trying to infiltrate their ranks. I was also under scrutiny because I had just stood around Mara C as a low level, only doing Critical Missions and waiting to get contacted instead of leveling. He reasoned that I had spent most of my time at Mara "gathering intelligence".

It had turned out he was so skeptical of me because Trucidos or whatever had hacked into.. Orien's (I think) account and saw the Captain boards and was posting LESIG stuff on the MXO boards (which actually backfired on him, eventually, I think). So, Tbone assumed that I was Trucidos (or someone working for him) and was trying to get into FA as a spy. They eventually found out that it was Trucidos and cleared my name, much to my luck.

I finally got my interview on March 20. It was like, 9:45, and Broin contacted me asking to get an interview. I was like, crap, I can't; I have to go to bed at 10 because I have to get up early tomorrow. I was really sad, and pleaded with my dad, and he let me stay up to do the interview. I was so nervous about the interview because I had been waiting SO long. Haha, Manic asked me which movie was my least favorite of the trilogy. I thought that he had said most favorite, and I immediately went on a 3-minute talking spree saying how much I loved Reloaded. After I was done talking, he was like, umm, I asked you for your least favorite movie. I was like, oh fudgerific. That'll look great. I blundered my way through the rest of my interview, heart pounding, and went to bed. I woke up the next morning 15 minutes early and found an acceptance letter in my inbox.

HALLELUJAH. I literally jumped out of my chair and immediately logged into the site and changed my password and did all the bloop stuff before I had to go to school.

And that, my friends, is my story. Sorry it was so long. haha.

By the way, I only know exact dates because I still have those e-mails in my folders for some reason. I'm not that obsessed. I also do not know the full story of the "spy" issue, so some information is subject to inadequate knowledge on my part, and I apologize right now for not knowing the full story. ;)

Post by: Tbone on November 03, 2006, 04:40:33 pm
To clarify, there had been a series of Zion faction websites that had been hacked. I think SOTI's site was hacked, and they sent along the IP address of who they thought was the hacker to me so I could run it and see if anyone was trying to do the same to us. When I ran the IP, Anamodiel's name popped up. We immediately flagged his account, assuming he was Primordia (the G7G hacker who ended up hacking us via Orien's account anyway) and left it at that. I still can't figure out how the IP mix-up happened, unless he hacked Anamodiel at some point or they simply gave me the wrong IP.

Also to clarifiy, there is no LESIG information posted on the Staff forums. Whoever it was did post a screenshot, I believe, that was only in the Staff forum. When LESIG was first formed, I offered to create a private forum for those who had made it if they needed to talk about stuff without worrying about leaking anything to anyone else. Turns out there was already a forum set up on the MxO site, so the one I was going to set up was never used and information was never passed around on this website. The thread I created that hinted that I would set up the board, though, was twisted around to look like we had been leaking LESIG intel.

Primordia later admitted to hacking Orien's account (after he changed his password) and gave us this story about being blackmailed by Trucidos for information. Primordia now plays under the name Bayamos, and Trucidos claims the "blackmail story" was fabricated by Primordia to stay on good terms with FA and use Truc as a scapegoat. Fun, eh?

When I first heard of FA, it was back in the old days of Mid-Beta on the Beta Forums, and I remember how much I thought that these guys made the Matrix atmosphere of MxO feel authentic.

I didn't initially know many people in beta, and I only played with a small group of friends.  It wasn't until they did a character wipe, and I created Jeyk again that I finally saw a large group of FA at an RFZ party in Polyvynil during the last few days of Beta.

There I met Lelyel, and asked her how I could join the ranks.  She roleplayed a bit with me and directed me to Tbone.  Tbone was very polite, answered all my tells and questions, etc.  At that point he directed me to Eroz to pursue setting up an interview.  At the time I had a tight schedule, and I actually missed my first scheduled interview.

Tbone and Eroz were incredibly patient with me, a week or so went by, and I finally had my interview.  I was SO fucking nervous.  I never used TS, I never was exposed to a community this active, and I was never exposed to a community this thorough and intelligent.  They had a hard time hearing me due to my mic, and I was stumbling over my own words.

The interview alone was an entirely new experience in gaming that only grew over time with the faction.  As soon as I found that I was accepted, I logged into TS and met up with Tivod, Grimkitten, Lelyel, Eroz, and xGabrielx at Tabor Park East (this used to be a popular hangout for FA back in the my early faction days) and got my Whites.

I remember being so impressed with how cohesive, helpful, and well-behaved everyone was.  It was crazy just how much this faction changed my expectations and interactions with people in online gaming in general.  The first big thing I did with this faction upon joining was participating in the Coder Event.  With the exception of the End of Beta, that was the first Live Event I experienced.  Broin, Tivod, and MasterYoda used to run Level 50 missions with me all the time, as well as code out all kinds of clothing.

Damn, I could go on all day.  I fucking love it here.

In Beta, at Debir Court, when Seraph was supposed to show up.  If you look closely, you can see a ton of FA in the background:

Let's see, I read about FA in the Fanzine, that quickly ceased to exist, and used to hear a lot about FA on RFZ, when it was still RFZ, After attempting to make it in to beta, which I was too late for, I ended up getting the game about a week before it was released. I started playing during the end beta preview. At that point the sheer numbers of FA made me think this is really cool!

On top of that it was a Zion faction, and I instinctively wanted to follow Zion. So on to the challenge I went.  After maybe about 3 weeks or so of work on the challenge I was given my interview code, and I waited about 3 weeks or so before entering it. Then came the day when Eroz was still able to get in game, and he PM'med me, asking if I was available for my interview.

Sure enough I joined into a Teamspeak server full of players, and sat in the empty prep room. The interview was conducted, and I heard from Tbone approximately 3 days later. At the time of my recruitment, StormRunner, Nik0, Rorin were the others that donned their wings on May 10th 2005. None of the above are still with us.

Fun, eh?

Ahh. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm sorry I got my information screwed up. Everything makes total sense now. XD

*This was previously posted in the 3 yr thread and I haven't posted in this one yet so I thought what the hell, why not :).

Where to start and what to say. I remember the first day I stepped into this simulation. So realistic and fascinating I couldn't believe my eyes; what I saw, how it made me feel. Like I was actually there! This being my first MMO I was blow out of my seat with awe.
I remember after comfortably getting somewhat used to everything, I asked around about the best Zion faction. The words "Furious Angels" caught my intention. From that moment on, I made it a personal goal to find out how I could join them. I hardly saw them running around, or jumping from rooftop to rooftop, but I knew they were there, I could feel them.
I finally remember reaching the "FA site" in hopes of figuring out how to join. While doing so I stumbled across the bluepill forums seeing this what was called "RP" and was amazed and knew this was the place for me, my "destiny" if you will. From there, I made it my personal objective to track down any Furious Angels I could and add them to my buddy list (three month process). I remember the first Angel I saw (WhiteMyst), I was like "whoa" I asked him if I could meet Tbone and the next thing I know I'm standing in a pvp battle and Tbone come out of nowhere throwing knives at everything and I was like "SWEET! It's GOD!" *lol* I gave Tbone a quick hello and a smack on the ass *lol* and told him I was interested in joining FA and he gave me the most crappiest reply in the world: "Follow the Angel". I was like what in a blue monkies ass is this guy on?! Is it crack? No. I then realized it meant something and what was said were directions; metaphoricly. I had seen the first FA vid and was like OMG OMG! Turn on ftw! *j/k*
Then my path along the challenge began. It took me 7 months of headaches, annoying Angels, excitement from passing a single riddle and feeling closer each time I progressed. The challenge was friggin like disarming a bomb or trying to get into the governments secret computer files or something *looks at Broin >.>* (No Broin I didn't, so you don't have to come after me now :P). Finally, my riddles were thru and I awaited my interview with the Angels. About 2 and 1/2 weeks later I finally was contacted by Tbone while I was pvping or something in Midian E (yes I remember the exact location), I then joined a team with with 5 FA members and Tbone gave me co-ords to follow. It led me to a building and Tbone was the only one there and he was in HIS WHITES! I was like "YES! BEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE, RIGHT HERE!" So I jumped on TS and I was so nervous I thought I was going to friggin faint or something in the middle of the interview. :/ (Now is the time to quit laughing if you are!) Luckily I had my interview and was excepted.

----------------Before I go any further and drag this out like a mofo, I apologize if I'm not really supposed to mention this. Whoops if so. :P-------------------------------------

It was the greatest time I could ever imagine! I was a "noob" as some would say and didn't know much outside my tree (KFGM). So I asked ALOT of questions. About 2 weeks went by as I jacked in the next day only to see that I'd been removed form FA. I was like "my life in MxO is over" *lol* But at the time, I didn't find it the least bit funny. I contacted anyone in FA I could in game only to find me being ignored (/ignore Woodgrain) by Yotogi and DA6ONET, from who I can remember (ASSSESSSSSSSS!!!!!!) Wide grin. So since I couldn't get a hold of anyone I logged out and jumped onto MSN and yahoo to "track down Tbone" *LAWL*. I wanted an explanation to what had happend and was not going to stop until I recieved one. Finally I got ahold of Tbone and he said the most PAINFUL words I thought I could ever here. That's about the time I thought maybe MxO wasn't for me. Maybe it was, like Morpheus said, "you're living in a dream world" meaning being in FA would only ever be a dream and nothing more. But, despite the anger I had built up inside, I told myself I was wrong, that I was meant to be an "Angel" one way or another, no matter what.
I believe a yr and 1/2 had passed since my being removed form FA. Alot had changed since then, my expirience ingame with knowing alot more, having the privelage to run my own faction, meeting new people and gradually getting to know FA outside of the faction thru PvP, etc. and finally getting Da6onet to un-ignore me (you're still an ASS! :P). I remember Da6 said he was coding when he hit that un-ignore button, LAWL. I knew he loved me on the inside deep down. I just knew it! Anyways, I had a major leave of members from MxO that were in my faction and was to the point I was like "Fuck MxO, I'm leaving". During my yr and 1/2 of being released from FA everytime I saw them, there was something inside me that tore at my mind telling by I belonged there. Everytime I saw the white uni's I felt a sense of emptyness and part of me gone; lost in the code of my RSI... never to be filled again. That was until I met and spoke with two certain FA individuals (you know who you are) and they simply said, "Just talk to Tbone". I was like "yeah right, blah blah blah blah." Until one day the emptyness and void that I felt got the best of me and I couldn't take it anymore. I had a decision to make. Leave the Matrix for good. Or have that talk with Tbone. I had made my mind up that if I could not be amongst that which I once belonged, then I didn't want to be amongst anyone or anything. I honestly didn't care to be. So, I sent Tbone an email asking of it'd be possible to ever rejoin FA, or get a 2nd chance rather. After wating what seemed a lifetime I recieved a reply. It took my like 10 minutes to mustur up the "balls" (and no guys and gals, my balls aren't for joo! Sorry, I know if Pirus reads this he'll be thinking something like that along with SAFFY so I figured I'd beat them to it.) to open the email. My stomach dropped and I held my breath beginning to read. Finally my hopes had been answered. All this time wondering IF it was truely meant or not. Out of pure "hell yeah excitement" I accidently put a hole in my wall :/. I blame Tbone. Sorry T. *LAWL* So I began to re-take the challenge once more. This time it only took me like 3 weeks I think, taking abreak for a few days before I completely finished. Then I had my interview and was excepted. 2 weeks later the moment of truth came. I remember hesitating to jack-in for like an hour only to have history repeat itself. During my 2 weeks probation period I was very anti-social and didn't speak much. I didn't want anything to go wrong this time. Then I thought to myself, "watch me get removed this time for not talking" *lol*. So while sitting on the edge of my seat I jacked in and saw I was still a part of FA. I surely thought something was wrong so I waited for Tbone to come online I think and said "you know my two weeks is up right?" He said "yeah" and nothing else (turd). Finally I came to the realization that I had been fully excepted and still to this day, try not to talk alot *LOL*, among other things. Sorry for dragging this whole thing out as I have.

Beta was the shit. No doubts there. When Monolith cared and I didn't hate the Wachowski brothers with the rage of a thousand burning suns.

Longest twelve days of my entire fucking life. I skipped classes twice, failed two midterms horribly, and spent bloody near all my time at school in the computer labs working on my challenge. I'm pretty sure Eroz was my Angel.

By far the coolest email I had received to date.

There were all the standard questions: likes, dislikes; but I'll always remember my "off the wall" question. I want to say it was Fuse who asked. Don't remember for sure.

"Do you like white or wheat?"

"Wheat of course! Do you have any idea what they put in that other shit?!?"

Someone who remembers the story better than I do needs to tell the one where the dev's unofficially apologized to us.
