Title: Kayda Booted
Post by: Tbone on April 22, 2007, 08:53:39 pm
This has been a long time coming anyway. Kayda had always pretty much gamed outside of the faction. A majority of the time he was hanging out with FA, he did so on a character he didn't want to have the FA tag with due to some RP purposes. Often times he logged on just to find out information about events or get recaps - just enough to keep him under the radar of the inactive list. Recently it became much more apparent that we had become simply a source of information for his own personal needs. I don't believe he ever did a single thing to benefit FA as a group during his time here.

The nail in the coffin was learning that Kayda was responsible for the leak from our forums. If you are not sure what leak I'm talking about, it was just EPN-related information that only we had been given. We have concrete evidence that the leak did come from Kayda, but unfortunately I'm not allowed to go into the details. Just rest assured that we had confirmation. This combined with his inactivity led to the quick dismissal which was under debate anyway. Well, that's that.

By the way, all this is confidential information. If someone else comes up to me from a different faction talking about this, we'll have another one to kick out.

I really admire the way you handle situations like this T. Glad to (hopefully) be on your good side. :)

Which leak? The one way back when I was under question, or a newer one?

Be sure to kick him from the Veritas ship. He actually joined it.

The recent leak from the EPN event of this past week.  Sounds to me like you guys made the right decision.

I was just in game a few minutes ago and Kayda is still on the Veritas.  I'm surprised that he was the leak, though.  I know he always sorta did his own thing in regards to the game and his membership in the faction, but I never thought he'd pull something like that.  :\

Well, he wasn't conspiring with enemy orgs or anything extreme as that. But he did share the information with people who then passed it along to other people.

Shit... wow... Kayda of all people.  Who used to get pissy when there were LESIG leaks.  The irony.

Good call T.

Just curious, what troubles arose from Kayda leaking this information?

By That I mean: What problem occured during the event that resulted from this leaked info?

Disloyalty perhaps?

Participating in actions contrary to the best interest of FA?

We get enough flak from people accusing us of leaks without it being true.

I've been in the faction almost two years now and I've only seen Kayda maybe four or five times, and most of that was when I was first accepted in.  I don't remember him ever really doing anything of benefit for the group.

Remember he's on the Evigilos (I believe) on Recursion, too. I never thought he'd pull something like that. Regardless of the outcome, I specifically remember T saying it was a confidential operation. The Commander's orders are Commander's orders. I'm sorry to see him go, but T's right. Not that he needs my approval, I'm just reacting here.

That still doesn't answer my question.

Edit:  *I've re-worded the original question so as to eliminate confusion*

Once we confirmed that the leak most likey came from us, we had to conduct somewhat of an investigation. This included questioning potential suspects, which lowers trust, hurting the overall team, which takes some time to recover from.

Another blow is the legitamacy of our faction to others. Our reputation among our EPN contacts as well as our enemies is shot at the moment. Our contacts don't believe we can be trusted with information, and our enemies think we're becoming sloppy, announcing in area chat that intel was leaked from FA. Is that the reputation you want us to have?

As for the event itself, EPN didn't use the agents, which was probably for the better. BUT some of our enemies did after getting the idea from our leak. There was a lvl 255 agent in there taking out Zion until it was, I'm assuming, admin zapped away.

So to summarize, distrust within the faction, distrust towards the faction, and a close call to costing us the event. To me, it's not about the damage that was done. To be honest, Kayda would have been kicked out soon regardless of the leak. It just would have been done in a different fashion (placed on inactive, explained that perusing our forums for intel didn't count as being active, and eventually deleted).

seems fair enough; a lot of us trust eachother to keep silent about things we learn of eachother both in game and out of game and to abuse that trust is reckless and wrong.

Tbone, the damage to FA's reputation was obvious; I was strictly inquiring as to what took place during the event.  In any case I stand by the decisions of our leadership.

I know this is late and all but boss, you did the right decision. Also, is he in LESIG 2.0? If so, shouldn't Rarebit know that he's not trustworthy? Or is that too harsh? But, Kayda... wow....
