Saw it tonight. Not sure how I feel about it. Right now, I just feel that if someone asked me to comment on the movie, I would be like "Eh". I may need to see it again. Maybe I just had too high of hopes for it? It just seemed to me like it was way too much, and they tried to make it too over the top, and so emotional that they killed it in the process.
-
I actually enjoyed the emotional parts of it, but then again, I never read the comic books. I thought it was a very good MOVIE, I don't know about COMIC BOOK MOVIE. There were some cheesy parts, I'll admit, but I was crying very hard by the end of it, sign of awesomeness.
-
I went with my friends and we laughed through the whole thing. "Over the top" is a good phrase for it. It was a fun movie...but not really bad ass. Come on... Emo Peter...heh.
-
That's exactly what I said T. It was pretty good, but wayyy too hollywood throughout
-
if you thought this one was too hollywood just wait until spiderman 4 with venom in it...that one will be terrible for the so called "hollywood" aspect.
-
Venom was in Spider-Man 3, and has a pretty prominent role. :p And Spider-Man 4 isn't confirmed yet. Tobey doesn't really want to do it. At least, that's the last I heard.
But yeah, WTF @ Emo Peter? In the comics, he turned into a bully when the symbiote bonded with him. I mean, they made him an emo bully, so I guess that's alright... The whole movie was just weird, to me at least. So many things happened that were nothing like the comics, or even the TV cartoon show. If you hadn't noticed, I'm a big fan of the Spider-Man Universe. :) If you are too, you may not like this movie. I enjoyed it as a movie, but not really as part of the Spider-Man series. Seems like Sam and Ivan Raimi pulled a Brett Ratner (Guy who took over for Bryan Singer on X-men 3 - Horribly fucked that storyline). They tried to hard to make it a blockbuster movie like the past two were that they just messed it up for the true fans.
-
ah i enjoyed xmen 3 and im sure i will spiderman 3 when i see it sunday im a fan of both but not so hard core i wont allow a few problems here and there I can overlook a lot. Now if it came down to Superman ... thats where I get very critical. hmm no big spoilers but does venom get defeated in the movie or is that saved for a possible spiderman 4?
-
Watch le comic le movie! I think it's almost the same. (not giving too much away, might be a bit of a spoiler:
Le Church bells!
-
I'll just have to see the movie and judge it for myself. These movies are by far the best comic to movie series yet so it can't be THAT bad.
Batman Begins is the other, but it can't be called a series yet. we'll see what "Dark Knight" delivers.

Well that was a bit much too reveal to those who haven't seen it in my mind, but now that it's out...yes Venom is handled VERY well I think. It's the other parts that are just way to over the top in terms of relationships and stuff... the action is pretty sweet. As far as Emo Peter, I think he just shouldn't have put his hair forward like that and I would have liked him.

I honestly agree with most of what was said by Tecknik. I have very mixed feelings about the movie, and I'm going to have to see it again with lower expectations.
The main story, dealing with the emotional side of the black suit on Peter and him turning as you guys say "Emo Peter", was done VERY well. Sandman and Eddie Brock as well. I was actually surprised how well they covered the Sandman's story.
There we're just a bunch of little things that would've been ok by themselves, but when put together throughout the entire movie, just kicked it down a few notches.
-
I didn't mind the Emo Peter (I called him the Emo-Man) part, what I did mind was how long it was. I can deal with cheesy (they did it in the second film with the "Rain drops are falling on my head" part) but you can only do it for so long, the walk of stutting was WAY to long, that should have been a few seconds long, and I would have got it. The dance scene, was too over the top, and with Gwen nevertheless, which was just improper use of her, She was Spidey first true love damn it, not a rebound and a item to be used. Its like the love/rave scene in the Matrix Reloaded, if we just take it out I would love the movie to death, but that one (two in Spidey) scene really just kill the whole movie for me. Overall a damn cool movie, especially the tech side of it.
spoilers/My favorite part in white text
Best part was Mary-Jane started to kiss Harry, some guy (college age) just screamed out "Bitch"
-
My favorite part in white.
I have to say, the fact they had Venom talk with the mask on, with the giant mouth and smile was fucking great.
I wasn't sure if they were going to, but I had a geek-out when they did.
-
I liked the movie, but they definately dropped the ball. Exciting, but ALL over the place.
The things that I absolutely didn't like about this movie was the whole douchebag-emo-hair-in-the-face bullshit and the "dance scene" which was pretty horrible, prolonged, and uneccessary. I should at least get back half of my money for that.

My geek out was when Stan Lee showed up.
Jeky I likely the new avater.

well yesterday i bought spiderman 3 which is supposedly compatible with vista well everytime I go to start it up I get an error. Spiderman 3 has stopped due to an unknown error. Maybe its compatible with vista but not my 8800 gtx ... who knows sigh.
-
Well, being a new OS, its always good to give it a good 6mo or more before jumping on that band wagon. It will always take them that long to just find out what most of the major bug and incompatibility issues are. Its always recommended to wait until after at least the first major update.
I'm not gonna bother until fall or winter....if even then.
-
Oh yeah I agree but hell i had a direct x 10 card i wanted direct x 10 :) of course this is when the direct x 10 games were coming out in feb/march time now the earliest is august i believe. oh well Many people are running the game fine on vista but nooo it cant go right for me :( I guess i'll have to fool with some settings when i get home today.
-
Yes.... that's it my pretties.... keep on nibblin' at his cables.... MWAHHAHAHAHAHA!
**cough**
**runs away**

I will never understand why people buy thing as soon as they come out. Wait untill the bugs are worked out!
Spider Man 3 Rocked. That is all.

Spider-Man 3 set a record $59 million take for its opening day in the United States, breaking Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 's $55.8 million record. The movie also took the worldwide opening day record with $104 million. The US opening day take includes a record $10 million in Thursday midnight showings. Spider-Man 3 broke Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest's all-time weekend debut by grossing $148 million.

I liked it! I thought the Emo peter part was cool, of course the cheesy dance scened didn't have to be that long, but yeah i liked it.
-
Lol Emo Peter was the best. Besides, you can't really really call that Emo. The entire change in his personality was from present day to the 70's which is what Doctor Conners explained when he was talking about the Sym.
-
As a Spider-Man fan, I loved it.
-
So.. someone needs to get a clip of it.. and put the emo kid song in the background.. I think that would be the bees knees..
-
Was it just me or was like the last 40-30 mins of the movie rushed and sloppy? I don't want to spoil anything but I'm sure those who've seen the movie know what I'm talking about. If they had cut down on the emo shit and the cheesy stuff they could of elaborated on the conclusions to some of the story arcs which would of been such a great improvement. I think that's what really ruined the movie for me.
-
I read a news review yesterday that had said Raimi (The director) tried to throw as much from the comic book into this movie as he could, because it's his last one. He isn't under contract for any more Spider-Man movies. So I guess he felt he'd better get in everything he could, since they may not have asked him back for any more.
That's why the movie felt so over the top, and bloated with content.

Conveniently, if there are aspects of Spider-Man 3 that you find dull or otherwise distasteful, just wait five minutes -- it'll change into an entirely different movie. Raimi seems to have spared no expense at throwing everything he thought was cool about the comic-book series into what could be his last hurrah.
The result is, admittedly, kind of a mess. But it's a controlled chaos, a frenetic compilation that offers something for everyone.

Amen.

More Venom. kaythanxbai
Number 2 had better bad-guy character development with the Doc. Something they came close to with Sandman.
-

/agree
-
Is it just me or was there a ninja in this movie!!
-
its just you.... but there are some in the game lol

**[The below review contains possible spoilers. You have been warned.]**
I finally saw this movie.
It was entertaining, but did not have quite the depth and charm as the first two. First off, I love the relationship ups and downs between MJ and Peter/Spidey.
I think one of the main issues is that they tried to cram too many "bad guys" into one movie. I think that a bad guy in a movie needs to have just as much depth (if not more) as the main character to balance things out. The best conflicts between good and evil come when you know just as much about the bad guy's history, character, background and motivations as you do the good guy's. I think this movie should have been just between Harry/Goblin and Peter/Spidey. This would have given them the time and space needed to concentrate on that relationship/conflict, develop Harry/Goblin a little more on psychological level and bring it to a proper climax. This has been building since the first movie and I think it kinda fizzled out on a pretty weak note, devoid of anything truley moving as it could have. It was "heartwarming" to see Harry and Peter working together at the end, but the way they brought him around was not only matter of fact, but not likely. The psychology that would drive a person to do what Harry did would not be so easily convince by the butler coming in out of the blue and saying "Oh, but the way, after all this time I thought I'd tell you the truth.....blah, blah blah."
Venom needed to be held off until a 4th movie where he could be developed as the sole baddie in the movie. He really didn't have much depth in this movie at all, nor was he really all that interesting.
Sandman had a slightly interesting background, but it was not taken to the depth it could have been taken to because....guess what....too many bad guys to develop any one of them decently. I did dig his turn to Sandman though. It should have taken him more time to grow accustomed to his "powers/abilities" and learn to function in his new form.
In regard to the now infamous "Emo Peter" I must say I liked it....that is until that cheesy John Travolta like street strutting and that retarded dance scene in the jazz club/diner.
Overall, it is a good movie, but it could have been beetter.
-
yep I agree with phienyx the emo peter seemed to suit the traits of the "black suit" but yeah venom deserves his own movie with spiderman. After all venom is supposed to be spiderman's greatest foe. But like most others I stil loved it ... but it could have either been an hour longer and made everyone pee 13 times during the movie or split up spiderman 3 into 2 movies and brought venom out in spiderman 4.
-
Another thing that bugged me: 3 bad guys, plenty of deep seated anger and various motives for revenge and the only thing any of them can think of to do is to pick on MJ? COME ON!! Ok Sandman wasn't out to hurt people, but I think he would have thought of something on a grander scale to collect money for his daughters cure. Venom? He had more than just Parker to get revenge on. He should have been engaging in some act of terror that would have encompassed the entire city. And Goblin/Harry? Well, he should have been the only one to have a vendetta strictly against Peter AND MJ,k but the side effect of that enhancer he takes would have caused him to do things on a grander scale as well.
The writers were thinking way too small and were not even very creative about that.
All in all, I liked the movie, but as a writer, alot of things annoyed the hell out of me.
-
Harry and Peter joining forces just reminded me of the ambiguously gay duo.
Harry: "Hold on!"
Spidey: "Hold on to what?"
Hate to say it but the movie should have been done without sandman altogether. I know what they were trying to do - resolve the conflict Peter has with his uncle's death - but that issue was pretty much assumed resolved from the other movies. I just think the movie would have been much better if it had been about symbiote spidey/emo peter screwing shit up while harry planned revenge, and then Venom developing while Peter tries to reconcile all the crap he screwed up and then slowly building to the climax of Peter and Harry finally resolving things just in time to team up on Venom. The Sandman stuff just made the ending and Venom's development too rushed, and I don't think anyone bought into Venom saying "hey sandman...I'm Venom...let's screw up spiderman!"
-
If there is Spiderman 4... There is also 'Carnage' ;)
((thats the other venom guy and alot nastier; Venom actually helps spidey defeat him in the comics.))
but yeah, I loved the film! Emo Peter **thumbs up** lack of venom **thumbs down** I loved the french waiter guy! :D Did he remind any of you of John Cleese?
-
Do any of you know who plays that French waiter?
-
Bruce Campbell.
-
BINGO!!
He also played the Wrestling announcer in the first movie and the theatre usher in the second movie.
Great stuff!
-
Yep. Do you know why he was featured in all three movies? ;)
-
Because he is the epitome of awesomeness?
-
Yep. Do you know why he was featured in all three movies? ;)
No clue.
-
Subb demands Carnage and the return of Venom for Spidey 4.... yes there will be a spidey 4! :D
-
and here's (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Exclusive-Spider-Man-4-Villain-Revealed-4739.html) proof; but it looks like someone called "Morlun" is to be the baddie.
-
1). I think that they should have saved Venom for Spiderman 4.
2). I thnk they should have kept Emo Peter/Black Spidey as a cliff-hanger plot point for Spiderman 3. (and continued it into Spiderman 4, having him resolve that issue near the beginning of thte film and therefore have the rest of the movie to build the tension between him and Venom.)
3). I also think this Morlurn character is all wrong for the Spidey series. (The whole magical supernatural edge would just kill it for me.) If they insist on having him as the baddie, this wouldn't be a bad time to introduce Blade.
-
Yep. Do you know why he was featured in all three movies? ;)
No clue.
Because he was the star of Evil Dead. :) Another one of Raimi's (The director of all three Spider-Man movies) movies. :D
And for all the Evil Dead fans, they are doing a remake titled The Evil Dead. :D And Raimi is signed on to do it. ;)
Subb, read the last paragraph of that article, specifically where it says "rumors and conjecture". While they probably are trying to bang out a Spider-Man 4, the original cast and crew may not even be a part of it. That screams "LAME!".
And this Morlun character sounds a little like Micheal Morbius from the animated Spider-Man cartoon. Morbius became a vampire almost the same way Peter became Spider-Man. Used the same ray-gun that was used on the spider, except used a vampire bat. It would make sense to bring in Morbius, as he was Gwen Stacey's boyfriend for a while and he was infatuated with her. Blade was also introduced into the animated show around the same time. He was out to kill Morbius while Spider-Man was trying to help him.
-
A man can dream can he not? :D Yeah I want a Carnage + Venom film :D **licks lips**
Maybe Carnage is sent to find Venom? Maybe Venom is a fugitive from his planet and Carnage is there to stop him and spidey helps venom? Could be kewl....
**SPOILER***
How the hell did Venom and Brock Vanish anyhoo?!
-
Blown up.
-
Yeah but there should of been a bit of a splat, after all Harry took one to the face.
-
maybe the suit was flamable? lol
