Title: Screen Cleaning
Post by: Broin on June 07, 2007, 06:04:41 pm
Hey I need to clean my Dell Wide Screen monitor... Any ideas what I can use to clean it...  Looks like a bit of dirt and finger prints from the children on it and before I go breaking out the windex I'd thought I'd ask the experts.

I've read that you just use a lint-free cloth and water on the cloth, not directly on the screen...worked for mine.

I bought some cleaning wipes from office depot. They are non abrasive, and have anti-static protection, also oil and wax free.

If it's LCD you need to buy LCD cleaner and a microfiber cloth (both at Office Depot). If it's a Trubrite (really glossy looking) then DO NOT USE WINDEX IT WILL RUIN IT!!! Ask a pro at a comp store

If you use water use a clean lint free cloth and distilled water.

My advice is always to buy a plasma cleaning kit, preferably a gel variety, as it will protect any covering you have on the screen.  It'll cost you around $20 and will last a while.

For day to day smudge removal, buy a Groomy.

Make sure the cloth is a microfiber cloth like Lits suggested.  Brawny paper towels aint gonna cut it.

Like lits said if its an lcd there are really nice solutions. The one I use is called Monster Screen Cleaner (at least up here there is) it comes with a microfibre cloth... works really nicely!

Pretty expensive when you think about it being a 500 ml bottle for 30 bucks, but i've had mine for 3 years or so now... and only used 1/4 of the bottle.
