Title: PS3 issues
Post by: Subb on October 30, 2007, 01:26:24 pm
My PS3 wont seem to work on 2 of our 3 TV's

all 3 are HD ready (although with one you need an adapter) and it only works on our 32" LCD.

Does anyone know could the problem be? Are they not compatible?

Errr, Xbox have had to pay over $1,000,000,000 in order to correct their mistakes.... oh and I think Sony havent payed out half as much.

I would hope so.  X-Box 360 launched a good year before PS3.  If PS3 had outsold the X-Box 360, I'd be a little bit worried for Microsoft.

Well, I can predict one thing; not for long. My reason?

*Assassin's Creed
*MGS4
*Resi 5 (although that's on Xbox too)
*Killzone 2
*the Force unleashed (I think this is coming out on xbox but PS3 graphics pwn :D)

PS3 is going to get the best games I think :/

Metal Gear Solid 4's release date will be the day that I buy a PS3. :)

That game > Any other game ever.

I was this ( -->| |<-- ) close to buying a Halo 3 Limited Edition X-Box 360 today. :o They had one in Target.  If they would have had a regular PS3 and not the one packaged with MotorStorm for $500, I probably would have bought one...

I did however pick up three cases of the Limited Edition Halo 3 Mountain Dew: Game Fuel, as Target seemed to have it in supply.  No one else does. :(

Assassins Creed looks 'effin' sweet, apparently, all is not what it seems with that game according to reviews.

Oh, and fuck it, I've called out a techie; I'm gonna waste the money of a multimillion pound firm :D

Holy crap... PS3's hard-drive is user-upgradeable and doesn't void the warranty? :x

That's it.  I'm buying a PS3 and slipping a 250GB hard drive in it.

What the fuck, Sony!? What the fucking fuck!?!

So, I was looking through the ads that came with the paper today. I look every weekend for good deals on electronics. As I'm looking through, I notice that everyone is advertising a 40GB Playstation 3 that comes with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-Ray for $400 ($399.99  ). I've been wanting to get a PS3 for a while, both for gaming and for the Blu-Ray player. So I decide "Hey, whatever. I'll pick one up now." I go to the Circuit City near me, and run into my buddy that works there. I ask him where they keep the PS3s, and he tells me they have them behind the Customer Service desk. He tells me he just bought one, and asks me which one I'm going to get. I told him I was looking at the 40GB model that comes with Spider-Man. He replies with, "You know that it doesn't play Playstation 2 games, right?". I look at him kind of awkwardly ( ), waiting for him to tell me he was kidding.

He didn't.

I asked him if he was serious, and he told me he was. He continued to tell me that because the chip for the PS3 that enables it to play PS2 games was so expensive, Sony left it off the "low-end" model. :wtf: He then told me that while it does not play Playstation 2 games, it does play Playstation 1 games... So remembering that Playstation 2 games were on DVDs I asked him, "So does that mean it doesn't play DVDs either?". He told me that it still plays DVDs.

What the fuck, Sony? What the fucking fuck!? I officially fucking hate you.

But that didn't stop me from shelling out an extra $100 for the 80GB model that comes with MotorStorm...

What can I say? I'm a sucker.

Oh, and I bought Need For Speed: Carbon.

It plays some PS2 games Teck, just not all of them.  Be thankful you had a choice: Europe didn't - even on the "premium" version.

You can download software from the grot (if you connect your PS3 to the internet) so you can use PS2 games on your PS3...

That's what it's like over here anyways.

We're talking about two different things, guys.  You're talking about the backwards compatibility issue on the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB.  I know all about that.  Some games work, some don't.  Have to download the update and it'll fix most games, etc.

The brand new 40GB does not have PS2 backwards compatibility at all.  The Emotion chips are simply not there.  It uses software emulation to play PS1 games, but cannot play PS2 games whatsoever.

No, we're talking about the same thing.  No Euro console has the emotion chip: http://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/blogs/index.cfm?entryid=250&blogid=2

Ouch. :(

So, wait... you guys do or do not have software emulation for PS2 games? Because the 40GB US model does not.  Says right on the Sony US website that it will not play PS2 games at all.  Maybe they'll release PS2 software emulation on the US model.  It already has PS1 software emulation.

I think our 60GB has.... I know I can download some software.

I only have the 60GB but I imagine they are both the same.  Since emulation is entirely software driven I fully expect they'll support it soon enough for you lot

I cream myself everytime.... with whipped cream. I can't get the nozzle to work, it always explodes :D

The software emulation doesn't matter to me since I bought the 80GB model anyways. :x Just got home and unpackaged it all.  It's all plugged in and turned on.  For some reason, I couldn't over the internet so I'm downloading the update to one of my flash drives.  As soon as that is done, I will update to 1.93. :D

Then I will most likely be playing either MotorStorm or Need For Speed: Carbon. :D I need to get an HDMI cable.  Right now I only have the Component (Red/Grenn/Blue. Not Composite - Yellow/White/Red) cables, which look pretty good.  But I want to see if HDMI will make a difference.  Some say it does, some say it doesn't.

Component won't make a difference unless you're watching a movie encoded with ICT

Compatibility site. (http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htm)

Not many Ps2 games left.

No Matrix Path of Neo :'(

Well, I found out my 80GB model does not have a Emotion Engine chip either.  Sony has completely stopped putting them in all PS3 models.  The 80GB is using PS2 software emulation.

Weird that the 40GB model does not....

What a great move by Sony.  If you want to upgrade to a PS3 and still be able to play PS2 games (without having both a PS2 and PS3 connected to your television), you have to spend the extra $100 on the 80GB. :p

But really, the extra $100 is worth it if you figure games are $40-$60, and you're getting an extra 40GB of hard drive space.

I don't know why I didn't think about this before.

Are you using an HDMI cable?  If so, are your TVs HDCP-Compliant?  If they aren't, the PS3 won't work with them over a HDMI connection.
