Title: I am at my wits end
Post by: Anonymous on December 03, 2007, 04:26:14 pm
I'm halfway through building my pc, my case arrived today. I put the motherboard etc in it. I go to turn it on and..nothing. i looked for an online guide it mentions something about front-panel connectors it says that i need to connect these up to get it to turn on. But i can't find them on the motherboard...i may have read it wrong or something. But any help would be appreciated

hmmmm, read through your guide again (if you havent) worse case scenario = you've blown the motherboard/PSU is faulty. Or it could be that you've miss placed some cable etc.

give me or someone the name of the Motherboard and one of us could look up the manual and give you the exact page it appears on.  I could even send you pics of what it looks like where it is and which connector goes where.

ok first off there should be small plugs coming off of the case im sure its one of the first things you noticed when you opened it up... only some of these will be used ... generally atleast.  So if there are some left over dont be alarmed.  The main ones are the power led hdd and speaker.  If you look on page 27 of your gigabyte manual you'll see the power connectors for the case.  The motherboard itself should have each couple of prongs labled if you look close enough.

You should have connectors labled PWR and RSET look for the appropriate location via the manual and MB and connect them.  This tends to be the biggest issue when building a computer... saf had trouble too but we had a small defective part but thats besides the point.

The wires coming from my case are called, Pled - Pled +, power SW, reset SW and HDD led. Are these the right ones?

In fact I'll tell you just where to hook them.... The HDD will connect to the IDE hard disk connector on the MB... the Power SW will connect to the Power Switch connector on the MB... the Reset SW of course to the reset Switch connector. With that it should run but if you want to hook up the PLED refer to page 28.  It just gives you a little LED light when the power is on and off no big deal.

Basically you only need one of those to get it running Power SW that controls your switch to turn on the computer.  The others are novelties of sorts

I'm going to see if I can explain this a little clearer then Pirus did.

PLED will be the Power LED.  Just the light on the case that tells you when the computer is on or off.
Power SW is the power switch terminal.  That one should be your main concern right now.
Reset SW is the reset switch.  It's helpful to have it plugged in, but not necessary.  You can always use the "Hold the power button" method to shut the computer down, and then press it again to start it back up.
HDD LED will be the little LED on the front of the case that flashes when the computer is accessing information from the hard drive.  Again, this one is not necessary, but is convenient.

As Pirus said, page 26 of your motherboard's manual will show you the F_Panel (Front Panel/Case Buttons) pin layout.  You motherboard also has a separate set of pins for the Power LED, which can be seen on page 27.  Just read page 26 and 27, and you should have no trouble getting the front panel buttons finished.
