Well it looks like McCain has had a huge win on the republican side. On the Democratic side I have to call it a win for Obama. Hillary expected a huge victory... instead she got a practical tie. Obama has won more states and it's looking like he's going to come ahead in terms of delegates as well.
Thoughts? Comments?

Who won Cali for the democrats? I haven't been able to get a straight answer as I've been on the road all day.
-
Mrs. Clinton won California.
-
only by 10 points... Obama was far far far behind in cali and this is a comeback for him... same thing here in MA... Obama was very far behind.
-
Your next president will more than likley be Clinton. McCain is not a Republican. He is a Dem in Republican clothing. He will not be able to secure the conserative vote that he needs to beat Clinton. He does not have the base of Republicans behind him only independent and liberal Republicans.
Rom and Huck are splitting the base between them and probably what Huck is doing is staying on to get the VP job. McCain will more than likley take him in hopes of securing the Republican base vote but it won't work. Therefore the base will stay home and not vote which means when the Dems come out to vote Clinton is back in.
Obama can't beat Clinton she has to much of a machine. And besides if he starts really getting to close Bill and Hill will just give him a pair of cement shoes

I think conservatives are more afraid of a Clinton presidency than a McCain one. Same goes for a good chunk of independents and democrats. I don't think Hillary can been McCain.
It's true that Clinton is a machine but Obama is a Movement. Slowly but steadily that movement is gaining traction. Hillary is running out of funds right now... she's dipping into her own pocket. Obama's campaign is raising more and more money everyday. This race looks like it's going to be a war of attrition... I don't think Hillary will survive it. The more people get to know Obama the more people will flock to him.

Let us all pray that ANYONE other than Hillary is the next President, because if she is, we won't be able to pray ever again.
-
Anyone > McCain > Clinton
If it's a McCain/Clinton choice I'm writing in Broin for pres.
The only good thing if McCain gets in is that our military will be beefed up and I'll have a better chance of getting my Pilot slot. Though, I won't have any money because he knows less than jack shit about the economy...

The biggest thing that scares the hell out of me with Hillary is on one hand she's in the pockets of health care companies but at the same time wants to create mandated universal health care. The only outcome I can see coming from that is unaffordable mandated health care. That's why I like Obama's plan... not only does he want to make health care affordable for everyone, he's not going to mandate it and force it down ppls throats.

As an outsider I do find this "race" amusing, in that people still believe the president will make a difference to the politics of the country. The lobbyists and pork barrels will continue to make a difference to the politics of the country, not the puppet putting out a state of the union address :D

This is actually one of the reasons I've become an Obama supporter. He stands for getting the power out of the hands of lobbyists and back into the hands of the American people. He has helped pass some of the toughest reforms in Washington when it comes to lobbyists and wants to continue passing tough legislation on the issue.

I'd like to believe he would, but I know the power of hype in the US media and particularly in the Presidential race (finally that A Level in Govt and Politics is paying off.... lol). It'll have to be a case for believing it when I see it for now.
Imho though, the President serves as little more than a figurehead in the same way that our Queen "controls" our Parliament. Were either of them to overstep their boundaries and execute a veto they'd be out of their position, so it's a case of either being very very canny and carrying out your political agenda behind closed doors, or being a limp rag. I think your current president might be the latter ;)
However I do think the US deserves a strong and decisive leader who isn't afraid to do what's right rather than what the House wants and who is able to lead the party electing him and reign in the opposition when it's required. I think America is well overdue for a dose of democracy.
-
The reason the President gets so much attention is for two reasons:
1. The President is only there for 4-10 years
2. The President is only one person vs Congress which has roughly 552 members.
Thus the President's role has really just been to "guide" America. In reality, that's more power than the framers of the constitution really gave the president, but that was before television and the much wider reaching forms of mass media.
It is true that at the federal level, most of the power is with lobbyists and senators. However most of what they achieve is money, not actually shaping people's lives.
On a day to day basis, most people can go about their lives with no centralized federal government intervention at all, and that's really what America needs more of, not more Hillary.
-
I don't know much about Hillary, but in spite of this I liked some of the common sense she was talking, though again I'm cynical. Do Americans generally dislike her because she's a borderline commie?
-
what powers does president have however? i thought power to declare war etc?
-
That, and there is a lot of controversy in her and her husbands past. They did a lot of shady things.
She also, like every other candidate except Paul, would lie to her mother to get in office.
-
She will be the end to all civilized killings in games!!! :( That is all
-
McCain and Hillary are the best this country can do?
You kids need to grow up and vote already.
-
There are rumors that Romney is dropping out of the race.
-
It's ok CNNs front page. Romney has "suspended" his run, and about to officially quit.
3 man GOP race... Yes 3.
-
Hilary will not win.
This country won't stand for it.
At least that's what I tell myself. :(
-
Well, John McCain is now the Republican Nominee. Mike Huckabee has no chance of winning.
Maybe McCain will be smart and choose Romney as a running mate...

He's ultimately in charge of our armed forces (Commander in Chief) but you need a declaration of war to be passed by Congress to officially go to war. That is one of the reasons nobody likes Ron Paul, he keeps reminding everyone that we didn't officially declare war on Iraq or Afghanistan yet we bombed and invaded them.
Yes Destyn I hate Hillary and pretty much all socialist bastards, but we do need them around to balance out the fascists. That does not mean we need to have a socialist president.
I agree with Fuse, however I also know why most people won't vote for anyone other than the commercial candidate, naivety coupled with laziness. American people only band together to do great things when they have a fire lit under their ass (I know because I'm one of them).
Remember, everyone from Cletus the slack-jawed yokel to Professor Frink really only cares about how things affect them. So would you rather elect someone who promises "free" healthcare and "don't worry we'll take care of you" politics or someone who says "you earn what you work for" and "you're on your own except for national defense"
hmm lets see, someone who'll take care of me or someone who expects me to take care of myself... I vote Hillary! :-p
I suspect the only way we'll ever get back towards state/local governance is if Washington D.C. is destroyed during a state of the union address.
I'm going to name the best things I feel our federal government has done or thought up in the last 100 years.
-Public works project initiatives
-World War II
-Interstate Highway
-Constitutional Amendments 19-27
Notice none of those take care of people but instead expect sacrifice, give protection and provide opportunity. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, sound familiar?
I'll stop ranting and close by simply saying vote Ron Paul and libertarian in general.

Yup. A damn shame that's as far as people go with it. "Oh, you'll take care of me? AWESOME!" (nevermind that it will take more money away from me. Oh yeah, and you're going to decide how to spend it, where it goes, and every single aspect of my healthcare...Oh yeah, plus government spending will be increased beyond all hell, our dollar will continue to drop with her attempt to "save" the housing market, and gas will shoot to $400 a barrel).
My biggest problem is that people are fucking stupid. People who HATE bush are voting for McCain...SOMEONE EXPLAIN THAT ONE TO ME?! "I want out of Iraq....so I vote for McCain" WHAT?! WTF! "I want a stable economy....I vote McCain" WHAT?! OMGWTFBBQ! "I want immigration under control....so I vote McCain" WHAT? *dies*
Seriously, Canada sounds like a damn good idea right now. I have absolutly no faith in our election system, government, or general public.
