just jumped onto this free wow server...
http://toxic-wow.net/
Fuze is on HR and Fusette is on MR. Pretty cool free deal there.
Also, you may recognize a name on the front page. =)
Anyone hear of anything like this for MxO?
-
wtf Aether?!
I thought that he still worked for Pirates. Am I wrong?
-
Is Aether who I think he is?
-
I'm still trying to confirm it's the same one.
-
Do these guys do a free server for other MMO's?
-
The only major MMO games you typically see private servers for are very very popular ones. Because all the server code needs to be stolen, or copied or decompiled, or whatever hackers do. Chances are blizzard will eventually get these guys shut down if I had to guess?
-
From what I've been able to gather you are allowed to buy it and set up the server... So from what I can tell it's legit
-
I'm trying to find a City of Heroes one - can anyone find one?
-
Aether for real? How'd he wind up there?

That is pretty neat.
Might actually get me into WoW.
-
Free servers happen a lot with WOW from what I can tell and there are several... I don't think they get shut down as frequently as you would think but they don't get the patches and updated stuff except once in a blue moon because of the difficulty in taking it and processing it... So yes its free..

This server is running the latest and seems to consistently have the latest version. It's free to play on, but if you do decide to donate you get points you can spent on items, gold, or levels. 1 dollar = 4 lvls or 500G.
Sure as hell beats the $15 a month bliz charges ya.
-
That is very cool....
....but it wasn't the money that killed WoW for me, it was the day I realized bored out of my mind with it.
-
Yeah, i Tried a Free server once with Sabrekongol. We got reaaaal bored with it.
I can't seem to find an MMO that i've ever spent time and money on like MxO
I would absolutely LOVE to play a free MxO. The $15 a month just really turned me off.

OT: Did you try to add me on Steam the other day?
-
The only MMO (besides EvE Online) that was ever able to keep my attention (unleast until they jacked it all up) was StarWars Galaxies. I so wish they could recapture those days.
-
Speaking of EVE... I downloaded it and started the 14-day trial yesterday after hearing good things. After playing for a little while, I think I've decided that it is too involved for me.
-
HAHA! Too involved. I have the opposite problem with MMOs. If they are too simple, repetative or shallow, I get bored really quickly.
My last stint in Eve Online, I spent playing nand working the market at Jita (THE busiest trade hub in the Eve Online universe) turning 5 Mil into over 1 billion over a period of about 3.5 months. The rate at which you can make a profit increases exponentionally the more money you make and invest. Not to mention the sheer depth of the other activities you can get involved with including mining, combat and exploration.
Did I also mention that it is a beautiful looking game?
Damn! I think i just psyched myself into re-subbing.
-
I tried hooking up with a free trial but it just isnt registering :/
Looks like a nice game. makes me wanna play DCUO even more :(
-
EVE Online was incredible, but the biggest thing that keeps me from playing is knowing I will NEVER catch up to anyone who had an account before me because of thier training system.

That is why you don't fly around solo. You hook up with a corp with some player depth.
Word to the wise, you will not get far in EVE at all if you think you're going to solo.
