So I have an appointment with Apple on Monday to get an iPhone 3G and sign up with AT&T. Sprint is the absolute worst and my contract was almost up anyway. My razr's software was incredibly slow, and I had a rather basic plan that just let me call and text (when I could find a signal).
Now that I'm making some decent money, I figured I could afford a step up. Anyway, does anyone have any tips or tricks for the thing? Favorite apps? Stuff like that?

Oh, and I am still waiting on my computer part from Hong Kong :(
-
I'm using a regular iPhone, but the apps are the same.
Some of my favorites:
Beejive - It's an IM program that does all the major IM services. Costs $16, but it's well worth it. In my opinion, it's the best one. It'll blend seamlessly through connections (EDGE, 3G, and WiFi), so if you lose 3G in an area and fall back to EDGE, you won't be kicked off. Or if you walk into an area with WiFi, you won't be signed off and have to login again. It can also be set up to do push messaging. So when you close the app, you aren't logged off like most IM clients. BeeJive will keep you logged in, and will forward messages to your email (insted of SMS to save you from wasting your SMS messages if you're limited).
Simplify Media - Allows you to stream music from your computer through iTunes or WinAmp. If any of your friends have it, you can add up to 30 people and stream music from their iTunes and WinAmp as well. Should be a free download.
Apple Remote - Can't even begin to tell you how much I love this app. It allows you to connect to your iTunes or AppleTV through WiFi and use your iPhone as a remote. For me, it's awesome. I used it to control my desktop's iTunes while I'm elsewhere in the house with my laptop. It's also a free app.
Flixster - Lets you check movie times in your area. You can either type in your zip code, or it'll find you through positioning, to give you the closest theaters. It's free.
Urbanspoon - Nice little app that finds nearby resturants. It works like a slot machine. Again, this one will either locate you or ask for your zip code. When you shake the phone, it rolls like a slot machine. The first row shows you the area, second row shows you what kind of food it is, and the third shows you how expensive it is. Also a free app.
If you don't have a Yahoo account, I suggest you get one. Yahoo Mail does FREE push email for the iPhone. They have since it's release. So there is no reason to pay for MobileMe. I set up my Gmail account to forward to my Yahoo account and now get all my email as soon as they hit my mailbox, instead of having to fetch them.

When you are getting your phone pay attention to the little things he is telling you, there are a lot of helpful hints they'll give you.

Jailbreaking it is sweet.. not recommended if you are IT challenged though :)
Showtimes uses the GPS to located closest movie theatres and shows movie times
Drinks Free is 16,000 drinks and how to make them
Live Poker is texas holdem that you can play via your iphone and use your facebook account to do it.

I am on thE iPhone now!

So how do you like it? Fun, eh? :D
Mine is Jailbroken for T-Mobile. I need to update it. :(

amaZing can I port contacts from my razr?

And people call Microsoft greedy. Apple is worse to the n-th degree. They were too stubborn and greedy to bring a quality product to all carriers. Instead they wanted your monthly fee and AT&T was the first one to say ok. AT&T drops calls and loses texts in my area all the time. Verizon is the only smart way to go. And I'd probably own one if they weren't so greed driven.

AT&T service blows...we had it and I could not even get a signal in my house. We have Verizon now, and our contract is coming up for renewl....I'm looking at the new BlackBerry Storm :p
-
wow I get full 3g signal in my apartment

I get a new phone in January I think. I was looking at a Samsung Omnia that supposedly has unlocked Wi-Fi capability.

So I bought beejive and it is working well with the yahoo account I set up. I will take a look at simplify media once my pc is working again as it looks very nice. For now though pandora radio is working very well for music.
I wish that yahoo push worked for individual folders as it would be nice to have a folder for each thing I want to push instead of them all dumping into the same inbox

If you don't have the facebook app, grab it. If you think you're addicted now...
-
Oh I do

Yay, computer is fixed! There needs to be a TS app! haha
-
agreed!

I'm getting an iphone in the summer, I think.

First.. the only place ATT service truly sucks is the north east.. where verizon owns 90% of the towers...
Secondly... the blackberry storm is horrible.. great concept.. if you haven't played with it the first thing you need to try is text messeging... the screen clicks.. you can feel it click on every press of a button.. so if you type fast.. forget that on the BB storm... I have had 10 customers myself since the storm came out that bought it and said. "Wow this sucks" and switched to iphone.. Make sure you try it out a little before you buy the phone :)
and yes.. I work for ATT =D

A function that I see little promotion on that I truly enjoy,
When you phone is set to sleep double tap the bottom button (the home button), and you can access the basic iPod functions (rewind, play, forward and volumn) without having to slide to open the phone and go into the iPod area.

I ended up getting the Verizon Omnia. It is basically an Iphone without the arrogance. Love it so far. Since it runs Windows Mobile I can get a lot of apps on the web.
As for a Teamspeak App, hah, well with TS3 and the new easily portable architecture I wouldn't put it out of question at all. If TS3 ever gets finished... how many years has it been now.

At least over 5 now?

I found out skype works on most windows mobile phones.
