Title: Armour Types Damage Absorption - Could beta CutNpaste?
Post by: Anonymous on February 13, 2009, 08:52:38 pm
From the beta boards there was a  lengthy post i managed to view, in response to plate armour being the be all and end all I would love for the devs to see this:

Player Armor Type - Ability to Soak Melee Damage

Naked - 0x
Light Armor - 2x (leather/studded/ancient/crap)
Medium Armor - 3x (chain/banded/scale)
Heavy Armor - 4x (scale/plate)
Super Heavy Armor - 5x (full plate)
Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Dragon Armor - 6/7x

Player Armor Type - Ability to Soak Magic Damage: In most fantasy worlds light armour that is magically imbued has the better defense against magical attacks, heavy plate wears should absolutely be messed up by an arcane or elemental style damage. This results in a horse for course mentality and provides a reason to have many sets of armour.

Naked - 0x
Light Armor - 6x (leather/studded/ancient/crap)
Medium Armor - 5x (chain/banded/scale)
Heavy Armor - 4x (scale/plate)
Super Heavy Armor - 3x (full plate)
Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Dragon Armor - 2x

Player Armor Type - Ability to Soak Ranged Physical Damage:

Naked - 0x
Light Armor - 2x (leather/studded/ancient/crap)
Medium Armor - 3x (chain/banded/scale)
Heavy Armor - 4x (scale/plate)
Super Heavy Armor - 5x (full plate)
Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Dragon Armor - 6x

This would also be checked against Evade which might look like

Player Armor Type - Ability to Evade Melee Damage

Naked - 0x
Light Armor - 6x (leather/studded/ancient/crap)
Medium Armor - 5x (chain/banded/scale)
Heavy Armor - 4x (scale/plate)
Super Heavy Armor - 3x (full plate)
Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Dragon Armor - 2x

Player Armor Type - Ability to Evade Magic Damage:

Naked - 0x
Light Armor - 4x (leather/studded/ancient/crap)
Medium Armor -3x (chain/banded/scale)
Heavy Armor -3x (scale/plate)
Super Heavy Armor - 3x (full plate)
Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Dragon Armor -2x

Player Armor Type - Ability to Evade Ranged Physical Damage:

Naked - 0x
Light Armor -6x (leather/studded/ancient/crap)
Medium Armor - 4x (chain/banded/scale)
Heavy Armor - 3x (scale/plate)
Super Heavy Armor - 1x (full plate)
Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Dragon Armor - 1x

The idea is that heavy plate wearers will take more damage and less avoidance from magic. Be unable to evade rangers easily however have awesome absorption and of course have similar attributes when facing an equal.

This also means that magic users can avoid heavy swings, which makes perfect sense and as I can dodge a full plate sword wielding quite easily in my nikes and jumpsuit, if I was using electricity or fire on a plate wearer to defend myself I think I would do quite well hehe.

And of course for rangers there is an appropriate level of medium armours that provide the mobility and/or flexibility of reasonable defense

Anyways if anyone in the beta doesn't mind seeking this one out and perhaps getting them to think about the gear more.

Add all of those numbers up, and light armor has 26x soak/evade total and super power ranger armor only has 19x soak/evade total.  Light armor in this instance would be the much better choice.  Only if you knew that the only damage you would take was melee or arrow, would power ranger armor be better...  However, on second consideration, these numbers don't really do justice.  Although light armor may have a much higher chance to evade attacks, the frequency of evading is much lower than the frequency of soaking damage (speculatively). Hmm...

I'm pretty sure evade is based on your own ability to get out of the way of my sword or arrow. If I shoot an arrow in your face, it will do damage. Armor determines how much. If you want to evade the arrow, dodge it manually.

Yeah lol, numbers are just a guide or suggestion but the point was to have a more scissor paper rock effect with various grades of armours depending on what class was attacking
