Title: Ragequit
Post by: Demiabeille on May 04, 2009, 02:59:35 pm
I suddenly know what they mean by the term 'ragequit' as I am feeling it a little. K D S declaring war has really pissed me off. It shows up huge flaws in the game design - unless this is just me being a carebear noob?

In EVE it cost a hell of a lot of money to maintain a war on a guild. This discouraged random people doing it just to cause grief. It also allows smaller guilds who mind their own business to flourish and not have to get involved in politics until they are ready.

I am guessing that K D S have their reasons, but it really irritates me to think that all I wanted to do today on my last day off work was play a few hours of darkfall. I spent half of it running around naked as I was in K D S 'territory', and when I finally found a place that I thought was free of them to do a little quiet mining as I am almost at 50 armourcrafting, there one was ready to kill me while afk. I tried to get him back the 2nd time but he hit for 30 dmg with a starter polearm, and despite hitting him several times for 18 dmg back, his health bar wasn't even 1/4 gone.

This kind of pvp is pointless to me. I understand fighting against enemy races, I understand being ready and fighting in groups, but the problem for me is that I am EU based in a mainly US guild, and if only 4 other people are online in random parts of the world then really that's called soloing, which is hard enough without having me appear red to people who aren't killing me for any particular reason.

Yes I am annoyed and yes I will get over it and no I didn't lose anything of worth but it is so frustrating to think that my few precious hours of free time will be spent struggling and not having any fun because I can't be online at the same time as half my guild and because I haven't had the chance to spend hours and hours of my time levelling up and practising PVP.

This sounds like such a whiny rant but I had to post about my thoughts on this because I am really wondering what the point of this game is. It seems to only be playable by people who can dedicate a lot of time to it. It is sad that I am considering quitting. I love the game but the 'hardcore pvp' rules are just too difficult for a player like myself that has to be deemed casual because of my life commitments. If I didn't have to go to work then I would actually sit here all day playing it, so it's not fair to be thrown into a carebear category for this crime :) Maybe I need to go find a UK based guild or something, but that's a shame because I like *this* guild. I could move to the US...

Meh, bleh. Someone just tell me I'm looking at this in the wrong way and fix all my troubles so I can come back and play happily again. For now I am offline for the evening, because I am truly fed up of the unfairness of it all.

There are some days (Like today) Where it is really bad... other days it can get really good.

What i'm saying is if you wish to have fun you gotta just go out and keep that mentality... i know i have a short temper but if you need to just close out and come back to it later, do so. If what you are doing now isn't really working, try doing something else even if you aren't used to it. It's part of the learning experience.

K D S as far as i know is at war with use because they are Dusk and Dusk has us as KOS.

This is basically their form of retaliation because The alfar group of Dusk can't get us anywhere where it REALLY hurts since our hamlet isn't as populated as say... Hal'Kali (Vindie city)

If there isn't a lot of people on take a robe and hood, sneak into an alfar player city, and raise some hell when the time is right.

It's a different style of play and it's absolutely exhilarating.

I'm seeing the situation more clearly with K D S. It's just made me feel really crappy because that awful DUSK alliance have played a winning card here. How is it possible to get out of a situation like this without keeping in a group? And when you cannot be in a group because your hours are off from everyone else, this is a no win situation for me, personally.

Most of the anger comes from feeling like a pansy yellow chicken who is prepared to give up instead of fighting. Perhaps I'll try what you've suggested. I think I'm just rubbish at this game.

I just chatted to NoCry and this idea of being offensive rather than defensive is appealing, I just need to pull up my socks and stop being scared.

Tbone: Change mission statement from defending the good peoples of Agon to ERADICATING ALL EVIL FROM THE FACE OF AGON.

Yeah, you gotta shed that fear...

Everything that you lose can be gained again.

As much as it sucks doing so it's the god honest truth.

Haha. The one ace we have up our sleeve is that we have nothing to lose (besides a crappy hamlet). These guys have a lot to lose here, so that gives us an edge. This being said, I hate the idea of us slowly becoming a pure grief guild. I suppose it isn't our fault if everyone and their mom is declaring war in us.

I understand your frustration... I've been doing my best to try and recruit more people for our Euro time zones. If you want more people to game with you in your free time, and you feel that we are low on Euro numbers (which we are), spend some time trying with another Euro member and do some recruiting in-game in the newbie areas. It's amazing how helping someone out can really turn them on to a guild (and now much ganking them can turn them off, ALA Vindicators back in Beta for us).

Hopefully we can get more Euro players soon. We are interviewing one new German person tomorrow; if you come on for that, I'm sure you'll accept him... from the e-mails we've been getting, he seems like a cool guy. :)

one thing we can do is keep raiding vindi. city at weird hours and show them we mean business =P

I guess when we become a decent force to be reckoned with we can actually pull out the protection tactic. Right now it makes us look silly if I hang around a goblin camp making sure some noobs don't get ganked, only to get ganked myself by a player who isn't even harming the noobs. All kinds of wrong.

So I guess we need to decide to go on some kind of secret ops training mission, disappear from NPC cities for a bit, stick in organised groups and mess up some alfars. Once we have completed our advanced training, we can come back and show 'em who's boss.

I also think that we ought to choose a night a week to allow crafters to be protected - they can follow us on a PvE mission to somewhere they can farm some nodes while fighters keep mobs at bay, and then head to a city somewhere to craft under the protection of these players for half an hour or so.

Something like that, anyway - just some random ideas. I dunno. I am still QQing from earlier so I'm going to bed.

The last person I tried to recruit ended up in K D S ;P

I shall try harder hehe.

They just need to make the damn penalties for being in an all race alliance / guild heavy as fuck....like all members being perma red or something.  Something like that will help prevent all these retarded alliances being started.

Many, many times I"ve wondered what the point to this game is other than it being a pissing contest between players to see who's guild/alliance can fuck the other in the bum the most and for what?  I'm not sure yet...or it hasn't been added to the game content yet.

I don't know, but the game needs some serious attention paid to its pvp aspect.

After May 14th I'm back, and I'm coming on these raids even if I have to get up at 3am GMT.

Don't worry though Demi, you're not the only one who's felt that way.  My 2nd week in I believe Arch was over when I had my shittiest day ever, and he can tell you I was REALLY pissed.  So just just be persistent and when a fight rolls around just try your best to fight back or do what you gotta do to get backup, but just stick with the game and you'll have a ton more positive moments!

Yes and there have been a few times I've threatened to quit.  Some public and some private....lol.

I was feeling a lot more positive, but today reminded me again how pointless and full of idiots the game is. A Winterblade is in the new city, naked, griefing and killing for no reason. Trying to get a rise out of you by saying stuff like "Yeah that's right, run away" etc. You would think someone would find that boring after half an hour, but no. In fact Rabbit Winter suggested that she had been doing this all day. Jesus.

This seems to be a similar mentality to the KDS players. It is incredibly dull to me to come in game and not be able to walk five steps without being attacked. It is no longer possible to craft, or really, to do anything useful. I am bored. BORED.

This video describes the kind of people we are stuck playing this game with/against:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw2-3IiOPA8

It makes me want to harm myself.

I am very sorry, because I think you all are brilliant, and I will certainly be rather sad about it, but I have cancelled my recurring subscription. I have until May 30th to start enjoying this game again, or I'm out of here. Perhaps they will fix this nonsense, perhaps griefers will get bored (unlikely), perhaps I will suddenly turn 'hardcore' enough to play.

So until then, I guess I've nothing to lose. But even that thought doesn't compel me to login and play.

I'm going to go create a Free Realms account because I am obviously a carebear.

I hear you Demi. There is no real point to this game other than to die and lose everything.
Try to farm mobs and you die at the hands of gankers.
Try to farm ore and you die at the hands of gankers.
Try to stay near major cities herbing/logging/crafting and you die at the hands of same race gankers (love that orange).

The only way to succeed in this game is to have 4+ people at your side at all times during any activity. As it stands now from 8am-4pm FA time an average of 1-2 people log on not including myself.

After estimating losses incurred and having done the math and in total I spend nearly 20% of my in game time just trying to make up for lost gear.

Based on current rates of leveling I calculate I should be effective in PvP combat in roughly three months, or some time in August, though that assumes I can dedicate an average of 6 hours per day to the game.

That also assumes that I'm willing to pay to be griefed every day.

In short, it is a lot of time and effort for seemingly little pay off.

No, Demi :(

The game is definitely a group activity, and it's hard to do much without having a lot of people and being extremely organized. But we're making a lot of headway. We have new allies, a lot of big goals, and purpose. The grind is a bitch, but no one is making you log all day.

There are things you can do solo. I spent a good amount of time at the goblin camp near King's Holdfast just playing around with knives and getting some extra arrows and and gold. We've been making some pretty god stealth raids on the Vindi city...I know this happens at a bad time for you, but you could lead our allies or some of our other members (as we continue to recruit EU) during a time that works for you.

Also, get a new computer and turn the settings on max. That helps! haha... I hope  your next few days of playing turns you around!

Kings Holdfast is a no go area now, K D S are there at every turn. It's only a matter of time before they find the new place. If I were already level 50 in an attack skill I might be able to hold my own against them, not sure. I am going to focus on getting to 50 by the end of the month. Anyone want to be my attack dummy? :)

you know i will demi:) lets do it. just smack the shite out of one another; am away for the evening with the wife but will be on lunchtime today and again demani.

That goes for anyone; as long as I can shoot arrows at something it might as well be an angel;)

I'll totally be your attack dummy, so long as you return the favor and let me smack the crap outta you!
My weapon skills are pitifully low, so I need to get them up as soon as possible.  Heck, I JUST got my Archery to 25, and that's currently my highest one.

Why not have a big bashing party somewhere, kinda like how Tughri had that north wall devoted to sparring?  I'd be down for that, definitely.
