Title: SW: TOR
Post by: Sared on June 24, 2009, 04:54:50 pm
Game play footage. I came so hard I think I blew a tectonic plate out of alignment.
Also, use this thread to discuss the game, and post any insight/art/opinions.

Will I be tarred and feathered if I say I wasn't incredibly impressed? Looks good...but I'm not moving any plates here.

Some of that is made up of old footage, so keep that in mind. I'm also pretty sure they are currently still in Alpha phase if not just about to enter Beta Phase.
This games still has some ground to cover in areas obviously, but it is in a whole different league than any other previous Star Wars Game.
I will play it no matter what because it's going to be in such a fresh and untouched era.
I know we will have some skeptics about the game but, this is what Bioware is good at.

Some sweet stuff in there. It didn't blow me away but the combat system looks very impressive. When that trooper threw the sticky grenade at one guy and then concentrated fire on the other until it blew them both up, that was awesome. As was the lightsaber fighting obviously. Very nice.

I liked the way that the lightsaber combat is acrobatic and the lightsabers actually clashed! But yeah - there's a thread on here that I started a few weeks ago with some info and linkies :)

Not sure if this has been posted or not, but I was just reading their E3 article on the TOR site.
Highlighted features from the demo:
* TOR will be the first fully voiced MMO – Every playable character (male and female) and every non-playable character in the game will be brought to life by voice actors - resulting in several thousand speaking roles and hundreds of thousands of recorded lines of dialogue! This gives players a compelling and immersive story telling experience.
* Choice matters – Story drives choice, and choice drives action. Critical choices impact the outcome of your story dramatically. In the demo of an Imperial Flashpoint, attendees had to decide whether to kill an Imperial Captain who disobeyed a direct order, or to spare the Captain’s life. Depending on the choice, the TOR demo went in two different directions, each group seeing unique areas and content. Explore the press write ups below to find out what each path was like.
* Meet the Smuggler – Blast, bargain, and charm your way through the war-torn planet of Ord Mantell. Inspired by Han Solo, the Smuggler can unleash a flurry of bolts from his blaster or dodge a patrolling group of Separatist soldiers all while hijacking enemy contraband.
* Cover System - The first cover system of this type in an MMO! The demo team showed off the cover system for the Smuggler. Gain a tactical advantage by taking cover behind various objects (trees, rocks, buildings, etc.). When in cover, characters can switch to other cover points and also have access to special abilities.
* Unique class stories – Each class story is exclusive and storylines are also specific to each allegiance. For example: the storyline for a Smuggler (a Republic Class) is 100% different from the Bounty Hunter story (a Sith Empire class). You won’t share any content or missions.
* Multiplayer dialogue system – Another MMO first! E3ers got a preview at a new multiplayer dialogue system that allows players to engage in the storyline choices together. This creates a highly interactive and immersive gaming experience.
* Additional TOR features - The TOR team would like fans to know that Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online game with all the features that players can expect from a MMO.
Very interesting, sweet highlights.

any news on a approximate release date?

I swear I don't care about a release date...Bioware has some seriously good shit brewing for this game. Hopefully a release date will be set in place that won't horribly fuck things up as is the case with most MMOs.

New preview at IGN. So far the game continues to look promising

And I wanna say the date October 2010 sticks in my head.

Definitely want to be a smuggler. Space + Pirates = Win :D
"Q4 2010" is probably the closest thing to a release date that I'll believe from any source. If they are projecting for October 2010, it's a fair bet to say that it will be pushed back to December.

You can be a Jedi and then fall to the dark side thus becoming a Sith but you are still aligned to the Republic ;)
And vice versa.

I'm fairly certain that if you fall to the darkside you cannot be aligned to the republic. Surely it would just mean that you can fall to the darkside and switch. You aren't tied into a specific good/evil story-arch. The republic wouldn't allow for a sith to be truely aligned with them. Perhaps more likely would be a jedi who had once been sith and turned back to the light side; thus having sith powers and being a jedi who is republic aligned.
I'll be severly disappointed if they allow a true sith to be republic aligned only because that's how he started the game...

We have no form of recruitment currently in place for SWTOR. When we arrive on the scene, I'd prefer it be in style.
Judging by the website, the classes are clearly divided into "blue" and "red". Trooper and Smuggler so far for the blue - Bounty Hunter and Sith so far for the red. I did see an interview where they said that a "dark" Sith and a "light" Sith would still be able to group up, but I don't think you can cross the alliance lines like that.

I'm going to play a lesbian vampire Wookie Jedi. My goal is to single-handedly end all war and bring peace to the universe.
Seriously though, Smuggler looks fun. :)

Normally I play a ranged or support class, but as a leader of a Jedi/Republic group, I feel like I should be a Jedi. I'm just hoping that my gut is right and that 80% of the population is going to be Sith/Bounty Hunter. I don't want to be the "most popular" class...heh.
Title: SW: TOR
Post by: Subb on August 29, 2009, 12:05:12 pm
Well, I'm going for a Jedi - just for a glowing stick:) Then I'll play as a Smuggler for an alt toon :)
Hm, I dunno T - as a leader you could be a Trooper who's a General or something along the lines of that. Or you could be a Colonel who takes commands from the Senate etc. etc. That's if we do choose to be the good guys (which, I guess we are)
I honestly think that no one wants to be the 'popular class' (which most people think - Jedi) so a lot will migrate to the bounty hunter and smuggler classes, IMO.

Yeah, but taking orders from the Senate is too run-of-the-mill for us. We gotta be an elite, black ops force, remember?

Everyone wants to be the popular class. That's why it's the popular class. :P

yeah.. it seems that with this game (even though technically we know the outcome) they want you to feel like going sith is the way to potentially win even though we know they "are gone"
as for which side we play.. we are the FURIOUS ANGELS... angels indicating good but furious indicating we could align towards the Sith side if we want to play it off as the Republic poses the greater evil...
and to our advantage a lot of people will probably be leaving Galaxies for this game.. meaning they will probably want bounty hunter and sith... :)

Well I 'spose that means 'off the record' from the Supreme Chancellor or 'off the record' from the Jedi Council. Ooor, if we go Sith - by the Dark Council.

Very nice website, Saint. Some stuff there I hadn't seen yet, very interesting. I'm curious to see if the Miraluka will be playable by Consulars as well. Their inhabitants page links to Jedi Knight, so thats obvious, but I'm hoping they can be both. Loves me some blind angels.
