Title: Strategy for Releasing Challenge
Post by: Tbone on September 07, 2010, 02:26:37 am
How the news is spread is as important as the message itself. Right now we have this set to be two waves of releases

Part One

We update thefuriousangels.com's Ascension page with the cypher, silently.

We send the cypher message via Faint Signal (in roleplay of course) to hundreds of TOR forum users and important email accounts. The title in the PMs is "## Incoming Transmission from a faint signal...". In emails it will read "## Incoming Transmission from an Old Republic signal..." to help identify the "realm" the email is coming from.

Once those are all sent, if a thread hasn't been made already, we create one in General Discussion with an account that is not associated with FA.

We then wait for responses. Our hope is that out of all the accounts we PMed and emailed, many of them will stumble on to this thread after receiving the message and a conversation will begin that will attract even more attention as more and more people work to solve it or give things away (heh). If the convo is slow to get started, maybe some of our lesser known members could get the conversation going.

Part 2:

After it becomes known that the challenge is associated with us and our name and website and all that jazz is started to get linked everywhere, I will make a thread in the guild recruitment also titled "##Incoming transmission from a faint signal..." and include the cypher. We will try to all get together at the same time and change our signatures to the following:

## Transmission from faint signal:
where it all began...in a Violent display, lIght meets dark..GrEat power still remaiNs hERE YMESCJMFXZWTGYEUSGMUHLWTARYVIEMFKLSBGC

## Would you like to search for the signal...?_ (http://"http://thefuriousangels.com")
(might need to highlight to see the white text)
YMESCJMFXZWTGYEUSGMUHLWTARYVIEMFKLSBGC

After the signatures have been changed, we all post on whatever original thread was created at the same time saying cryptic things.

Meanwhile, all of the active Masters will post on the guild recruitment with the name of their Order and then something about what it means, though indirectly. Just for example.

"## Incoming Transmission

LIBERTAS

Freedom is a choice. Freedom of the mind. Freedom of the spirit. Tyranny will not prevail. Do not lose hope. Hope keeps you free. We are coming. They will be stopped. It is time to embrace your liberty. It is time you made a choice.

## Signal lost!"

So kinda like you are indirectly encouraging people to follow the signal.

We then post the cypher to our facebook page and send it to our friends and then we become hardcore active on the SWTOR community, and everywhere we post our signature becomes a clue...part of the cypher!

If you haven't seen it yet, take a look (http://thefuriousangels.com/index.php?msg=98355) to help collect names!

This sounds absolutely great.

Do we have an ETA on the completion of the Challenge?

"if the convo is slow to get started" - what about, if we can find any we trust, letting a few active (and likely friendly) posters on the forums help us out a little. The ML chaps from mxo have a gruding respect for us and are fairly active. Just a thought.

We are optimistically aiming to go live before October 1st. I want to have a beta version of the site available for testing in two weeks and then have a week to polish and squash bugs. I go out of town on Oct 1st for three weeks. so I'd really like to get this done first.

NoCry, I'm wary of putting that into someone else's hands. We really don't want anyone else to know it has to do with us, and we don't want them to overdo it or underdo it.

Can any active members post similar messages like we did for the MxO boards? (also more people posting means easier to bump within forum)

Initially, no. I'm afraid if we start posting random quotes/messages, it'll get flagged as spam or unnecessary bumping. At first I'm just going to use it for Masters to semi-advertise their Order.

I want to make sure we follow the rules first.

Did someone say new recruit?

I'm really excited for a new challenge, so I'll be watching your threads for kicks. Of course, I wont post until asked, but I'll be on Thursday the fourth hoping for some really intense roleplay.

Just like old times.

^bump^

Is someone with an anonymous account ok with PMing me their user/pass just so I can create a new thread on the general discussion? Even if not, just PM me so I can send you what I want posted.

PMed the appropriate people in this thread (http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=220373). Anamodiel, this would be a good thing to do about once a week. Find the new posters on that thread that are Republic and not turned off by RP, and shoot them the transmission PM.

Can you give me a list of the people that you PM'd so that I don't accidentally PM them again?

Thanks.

Do we really need to send out another wave of PM's?  I know we'd be targeting the RP-savvy folks, but isn't the goal to have them come to us?  It feels like we're just doing what everyone else is doing ("Hey! Looking for a guild? Come join ours!"), albeit in a more cryptic way.

It's not like the information about us is hard to find.

Anamodiel: Everyone through NegusNagash (that qualify)

Manic: In a word, yes.

Viral marketing still needs a bit of marketing. No one is going to be looking for "us" because no one knows who "we" are. It isn't MxO. It's very easy to overlook our thread in the guild recruitment forum (most of the time it is on page 3 or more).

Direct contact is probably going to be the best way to get these people to take a look. It's not a PM wave. I PMed these people individually after reading their profile. We know they are looking for a guild and know that they don't mind a little RP.

It we take a passive approach and sit back and assume everyone will just know of us and want to be us, I think we'll wind up sorely disappointed.

Good points. I just hope we don't see more "Wtf it's just a guild invite?!" posts.  :)

Yeah, I know, but since these people are actively looking for a guild, I imagine it will be a welcome surprise once they get to the end. Plus, I have to send the PMs via Tbone's account since FaintSignal still can't send PMs, so it'd be pretty easy for them to figure out where it is coming from.

I thought about sending a PM to a mod just so they KNOW I'm not spamming them and just sending the PMs to people who fit our profile on that thread, but I figure I'll explain that if any problems arise.

And Ana, this go round I'm having "the signal" link to http://followthesignal.net to help get things going, since we won't be relying on an organic conversation as much.

Yeah, I would send PM's out to people in Darkfall that were posting in the LFG section and it proved to be very worthwhile. I can't remember who is with us today because of that, but I know we definitely had more applicants because of it.

I'll start doing this for sure.
