What's in a name...? When we sign our name or post a message in our name what is the significance? The signature of a name to a document or contract, is like the extension of a hand offered in acknowledgment. A handshake, saying this is who I am. It is the extension of the self. A name is the essence of who we are and will always be.
With that said how did you come up with the name you will be using in the MXO? What significance does it hold for you? And what does or should it tell someone about you?

'kairos' is the greek word for time, but not jus time. More along the lines of "In His time" - 'His' being God's. Not pushing my beliefs, just answering the question (but I love the chance for a good God plug!)
-
 A few of the original members know it. A few more have guessed it. Finding what the name is is part of my story.
-
Yeah, Eroz's name story is rather interesting. As for mine, it's a biblical reference. It is the spanish translation of Enoch, although it should still be pronounced in english.
For those that don't know Enoch was said to be a friend of God, and always had divine support. When he was about to die, God decided that he did not want his friend to suffer the pains of death, so in an instant, Enoch just seized to exist. He didn't die and disintegrate, he just disspeared of the face of the universe.
The way I see it, he never technically died. I suppose my character Enoc is a religious man that feels he has divine support in his efforts against the machines. What may seem like carelessness or cockiness, is just a confidence that a higher power is taking care of him, and that he too will never die.
EDIT: Sorry for the long post, but I've thought this through a lot. It helps me stay in character when necessary.
-
Lol Enoc, cool. Actually, I tend to believe, or I have the "confidence" to say that I know that actually God took Enoc up into heaven. He was very clsoe to God, and you know that Enoc did go to heaven, like Elijah, because at the end of the bible (Revelations) the two come back as the two men at the wailing wall. For every man there is an appointed time to die, and they both have too....so it's going to happen then.
Sorry for the bible lesson guys. As for my name, Eclipse, I chose it for a rather simple reason, not to be off-putting but since an Eclipse is black, and so am I, I just thought it would be a fitting name. But now that I've had it for a while, it does have a more of a significane.
Eclipses have alot to hide, usually hiding something with great power and intensity, and when an Eclipse occurs, it covers everything in darkness...it's power seems to be absolute. And that is what my name is sort of like. I'm not going to be deterred by anyone in my quest to do what I think needs to be done, and I like to consider myself thoughtful, creative, and with some level of inteligence. Many people have been inspired by Eclipses, and I too hope to inspire people.

Well my name that i use for other games facup has special meaning to me albeit a very harsh one on my part. But Quantum is just like Quantum physics, it sounds good so I choose it, has no real significance to me.
-
Mine sounded angelic to me, but I found out recently that he/she is one of the norse gods. I have wanted to change it though, to Dose or perhaps Overdose. If I do you will see the significance when you read my Bio, when I do it of course.

Erebus is one of the seven circles of hell in mythology, the barren one with banshees in it.
-
oooo yay for bible stories!!! :D
unfortunately my name is not biblical at all. since my "real" name translates to "pure"--which i am--i figured my "alter ego, so to speak, should reflect the opposite when in fact meaning the same. people have been calling me "kitty" or "katie kat" and things like that since before i can remember. on a band trip to florida i was wearing a long sweater with a hood and my friend said i looked like a grim reaper when i had the hood on ... except i was too feminine-shaped and too feline ... and it was he who first called me a grim kitten. which yes that would signifiy a black kitten but since i am most definately caucasian ... it's an alter ego thing. polar opposites. seeing me as the world sees me vs. seeing me as i see me kind of thing. so there you go.
and thanks to broin for for starting this thread! i know we all wonder the significance behind others' names. thanks! :)

Siren, a literary reference to Ancient Greek mythology, most notably Homer's Odyssey and Illiad. Sirens were beautiful woman (or occasionally mermaids) who lured unfortunate sailors to their doom with their enchanting voices.
I picked it mainly because I'm a classics fan and it kind of seems like an MxO worthy pseudonym. The other ones I was deciding between were Elektra, Nephele and Calypso.
-
i kinda didn't feel like using my usual nick(dunno why!?!?!?!) so i just choose a name i liked....
-
Well lets see if I can try to explain this without too much detail. I got the name Marrs from a game that was on the Sega Genesis called Shadowrun. There was a charcter in the game by the name of Winston Marrs who was a noble and loyal but ruthless at the same time. When I joined MxO, I tried to get the name I've used in pretty much any game I've been playing that I felt the name fit me so well but I couldn't so I choose Marrs.
However, the name has taken on it's own meaning and life since I joined the FA. I plan to live up to what his story is and try to excel past that.
-
Ye goddesses... I love Shadowrun, and the Genesis game. Though I never got the hang of the Genesis game, probably because it was made with Second Edition rules...
In any case, my name used to be SixBit. It signified a byte that could hold the same amount of information as an eight bit byte, and was therefore superior (More information stored with less energy = more potential power or storage.) Soon it changed to SixthBit. "In the days of thousands and millions of bits, the sixth can make all the difference." Meaning, if the sixth bit is a 0 instead of a 1 or vice versa, something may seriously screw up, and because the sixth bit is likely to be part of a declaration, that can ruin the whole program.
When I started Planetside, I joined Warrior Nation, who uses Team Speak for communication. "Six" is hard to recognize as a name. "Ten" is much easier. So, I changed to TenBit. More bits, larger capacity for data storage. Knowledge is power. Power is control. Or something like that. =P
In any case, I may end up changing my name to Redux, because I like single word nicknames, and because "Redux" means brought back. As in, whatever it was dissapeared for a while, and then came back. Blue pill unplugs and plugs back in as a red pill. =)
Kudos to Broin for starting this thread!

ari is just short for ariweuto nase. it was a randomized name from SWG. although i do have a few other names i go by that actually have meaning, i wanted to keep it short and simple.
-
Hmmm... Mephisto.
Mephisto comes from the marvel comics of the sixties arch enemy of the silver surfer. I am not a big surfer fan, but the name seemed to fit in with a sort of matrixy sound and magical feel to it.
No religious implications here but he is the ruler of the underworld or the "satan" of Marvel comics. I always found him interesting because he would change his form or become what he needed to become to get the job done. Since I plan on doing the spy thing in game it really fit.
Thus Mephisto is born.
-
Very nice =)
At first I was worried that you were a smart Diablo II "n00b". Everyone knows Diablo II's multiplayer was... well, the net code was good, but I think the proper l337 phrase is "teh s|_|><><0|2".
-
wow i feel left out now, my name has no referance to mithology or the bible, it is simple. my last name is pipkin, and i own a tippmann paint ball gun, i put 2 and 2 together and made 4, then came up with my name. i noticed that it wasn't used much any where and it just kinda got stuck. If I wasnt using pippmann it would probably be Cloud.(FF7)

Firstborn...
Wow, really cool tread. From the Angel reference one could guess that there would be a lot of God references too. I'm liking that mucho. I looked for a cool "angel" moniker, but they'd been taken. Firstborn is from the bible, but I had to cut it back from "Firstborn from the dead" (Jesus). It's funny, but I'm not really the firstborn of my family. But I do like to get there "the firstest with the mostest!"
You wish to see; listen. Hearing is a step toward Vision.

Those are some great replies... As for myself: Broin is a celtic name meaning raven... Ravens of course are known to be harbingers of new for either ill or good. I choose it because in the game I see the FA's as harbingers, or bringers of enlightenment to those still trapped inside the Matrix.
I particularly like Enoc's name. It flows with the furious angels theme and in the book of Enoch you will find references to the Nephalim. Who some might describe as furious angels.
Now for the big question... Where did the big guy come up with his name? What say you Tbone? :D
-
Oh man...I own a Tippman too!
*loves paintball*
-
Tbone's name...... He's the steak man.
Not Really... It had something to do with a Trombone.
-
So like George Kastanza in the Sienfeild episode where he wanted to be called TBone, and not like TBone in the Clifford the Big Red Dog show...? Man I shouldn't of post this... Especially since I'm a new guy but here goes... :D REMEMBER ITS ALL ABOUT THE LOVE ;2)

Nobuyuki
Well, Nobuyuki is (brace yourself) a Japanese name. A rather common surtitle, I originaly lifted the name from the Anime Series "Tenchi Muyo", the main character's father being Nobuyuki Masaki.
I enjoyed Nobu in particular because he was the only character on the show without some sort of divine intervention, mystical gift, or godly powers, yet was also the only one with a stand-up job that kept the Masaki household running.
Though not Japanese myself (whiteboy), I did get a chance to visit the country on a study trip a few weeks ago. Excellent times.

Shniper is an extention of my nickname Shnip and was given to me for my good aim on Time crisis games, i was accurate enough for my friends to give me this title.
Nobuyuki, im thinking about going to japan for my gap year on a teachers assistant placement for a year. Is it a raelly nice place because im also thinking of moving there to live after i finish university maybe.
-
Personaly, I thought that it would be a beautiful place to live. Especially the regions near Hiroshima. great forests climbing every mountian, a good mix of sunshine and rain, easy to get around. The people were quite kind, as well, and never once was I chided for my still fledgling grasp of the Japanese language (I would suggest learning a little Japanese. You may be able to get by a little in Roppongi and other places in Tokyo, but outside that city center it's really best to know the language)
If urban life is more your thing, then Tokyo has everything you could ever want in a city. The JR Railline takes you just about anywhere, and if you take the Yamanote Line, you'll be able to visit the 6 city centers all in one go (I did a marathon session in one day, so very tired. ^__^)
If your in Tokyo and are interested in electronic gagetry, anime and manga, video games, or anything else of the geek persuasion, I highly recommend Akihabara, located two stops north of Tokyo Station.
My recomendation is to take the opportunity as a TA to get to know Japan firsthand, and then decide if that's where you want to live. Good luck and have fun!
Shniper o gambate kudasai! Ja mata! (Fight on, Shniper. See ya!)

Tyshalle is the God of Death in my two favorite books, HEROES DIE and BLADE OF TYSHALLE. Tyshalle is not a character in either books, but he is regarded in much the same way Zeus or other such gods are. I don't aspire to be a Deathgod, but I prefer to look upon it as you would in say, tarot cards, in which Death is of Change. The essence of my character is that he brings along change. The fact that his symbol of change is death, it's quite obvious that he brings along a dark change.
And when I'm captaining my own ship, the Excalibur, she will be the Blade of Tyshalle.
-
hmm ArchNemesis... simple meaning, sounded strong and cool... it originally came from me using Arch Angel, but it got to common so i had changed it to Nemesis Enforcer, which i had gotten tired of so i stuck em both together and WALA ArchNemesis, plus its not used to often and it has a simple meaning that I will be known as to all machinists within the matrix :D
-
Yeah, I created "Tbone" when I got my first computer. Band was a big part of my life at that time. Tbone is short for trombone, and I thought it was a cool nick. I've kept it ever since.
-
Cephus is the aramaic translation of St. Peter, who was not only a friend of Jesus Christ, but was the one chosed to start the Church once Jesus sacrificed himself for the greater good.
-
Hey Cephus, that's what I thought your name was. Really cool: the first Pope! You're in the Matrix now, you can walk on the water like Peter did.
-
ketamininja
the name itself has been around for a while. This became a persona online, and has made many friends throughout its history.
The exact details behind the name lay hidden to rest, buried deep inside a hole I call my mind. All I can say is it is an amalgamation of two real life events that put together can go horribley wrong.
Perhaps it serves as a reminder, or a warning. However, to everyone else on this board, it simply serves as identification.
-
I stole mine out of a dictionary while looking up terms related to fire. The definitions I've found differ by dictionary however, but I have chosen my version to mean "Baptismal Fire" although another version is "A Pile of Flammable Materials" Oh well, imo it sounds cool, so either way I like it.
-
The name Wolf most obviously comes from the animal, however I much prefer the image of the lone wolf. The one dark warrior sneaking through the shadows in search of prey. The wolf is just a sweet animal. Another name I've been known to use is Styx, which many people consider to be taken from the band. It's funny when another player names off a Styx song as their favorite one assuming I'm a fan of the band. It actually comes from a few places, in Greek mythology it is a river that separates the land of the living from the land of the dead. Translated it is the River of Hate. Also, in Dante's inferno the river Styx runs through the fifth circle of Hell. The fifth circle of Hell is the home for the vengeful and those who lived a life full of hate, it seems fit they are condemened to eternity within the River of Hate.
Anyway, that's where my most common names come from.

I have been told that I can be good at making up names. And Orasu was just a name I made up with no meaning...
Then, while playing Anarchy Online (I have an Orasu there too) some romanian dude comes to me and tells me Orasu is City in romanian..
I dunno, make of it what you want :D.
-
finally a name as meaningless as mine ... to an extent anyways :p

For years I struggled to invent an original alias. At the time, it seemed impossible. Someone else already used every name I thought I invented. I guess you could say I was having image problems. From B1n4ry pr0ph3t to Task Master - I wasn’t creative enough to create an alias that was solely my own. Then one day, for whatever reason, I was having a conversation with a friend and it turned into one about really horrible ways to die. We somehow transferred over to diseases and that became the basis of my name.
Acidic Plague; a plague of undocumented proportions leaving nothing but destruction in the wake. Silent and invisible without so much as a smell, the plague enters the body through the lungs upon being inhaled. Thus the name Acidic comes into play as the tiny microorganisms begin to break down the tissues in the lungs effectively turning them into weak gelatin like material. Followed by a more painful process, the microorganisms spread to the rest of the body and have a similar affect. The blood burns like wild fire as the plague slowly does the person off. Bones are rendered useless and the victim is left immobile and dieing slowly; there are no survivors and the average lifespan of a victim once infected is nearly four years.
A little morbid I know, but I was quite giddy when I google searched it and found it was nowhere to be found. Now you search it and all you find are records left by me all over the Internet. However, my character’s alias is also Acidic Plague - but for different reasons. The Black Death was a deadly and silent killer, traveling from house to house and indiscriminately between men, women, children, and all living life. That is Acidic's dogma, to remain silent and in the shadows.
Acidic simply because his favorite color is green. Go figure.

ummm i was thinking of good names....which were short and very few, but i saw zinc, and thought it was coool, but didn't want to be associated with medicine, so i changed the spelling to Zink. yah but that was like 3 years ago :) he he. and as for recent, ive thought up another just in case my name gets taken, god for bid. it'll probably be Sucubus. ok im done
-
I actually had this name since Star Wars Galaxies went live. I've used it and kep it since
Aaura. Well Mine is a variation of the word aura with an added 'A'.
Aura means an emanating / radiating precsence.

"And so, with his face stern in front of his loss and pain, Odin All-Father turned and went toward Mimir's Well. It was under the great root of Ygdrassil--the root that grew out of Jötunheim. And there sat Mimir, the Guardian of the Well of Wisdom, with his deep eyes bent upon the deep water. And Mimir, who had drunk every day from the Well of Wisdom, knew who it was that stood before him.
"Hail, Odin, Eldest of the Gods," he said.
p. 81
Then Odin made reverence to Mimir, the wisest of the world's beings. "I would drink from your well, Mimir," he said.
"There is a price to be paid. All who have come here to drink have shrunk from paying that price. Will you, Eldest of the Gods, pay it?"
"I will not shrink from the price that has to be paid, Mimir," said Odin All-Father.
"Then drink," said Mimir. He filled up a great horn with water from the well and gave it to Odin.
Odin took the horn in both his hands and drank and drank. And as he drank all the future became clear to him. He saw all the sorrows and troubles that would fall upon Men and Gods. But he saw, too, why the sorrows and troubles had to fall, and he saw how they might be borne so that Gods and Men, by being noble in the days of sorrow and trouble, would leave in the world a force that one day, a day that was far off indeed, would destroy the evil that brought terror and sorrow and despair into the world.
Then when he had drunk out of the great horn that Mimir had given him, he put his hand to his face and he plucked out his right eye. Terrible was the pain that Odin All-Father endured. But he made no groan nor moan. He bowed his head and put his cloak before his face, as Mimir took the eye and let it sink deep, deep into the water of the Well of Wisdom. And there the Eye of Odin stayed, shining up through the water, a sign to all who came to that place of the. price that the Father of the Gods had paid for his wisdom."

The 0wl is a symbol of wisdom, death, penetration and aligned with the element of Air.
If we have a representative of the mind , body and spirit ( Humans, Machines and Exiles )....there is a lot of room for exploration and symbolism.
And, well, I know more of and relate better to Norse mythology than other mythology/belief systems/religions.
It was also said that when Mirmir left the well, it would stagnate and fail to feed the roots of the World Tree...and things got worse from there.
You give up an eye/viewpoint/understanding/way of being when you take the red-pill...and gain knowledge. But should Mankind abandon or neglect the guarding and pursuit of knowledge then Zion will be the dream that dies in the Matrix Universe.
There is just a lot of potential in this setting. The stories, settings, philosophy, questions and discussions behind it all are....amazing. It is more than just a movie franchise, and that is the coolest part. If you dont KNOW better, you cant DO better. If you dont have information, you can make CHOICES....and we gain wisdom from the consequences (good and bad) derived from our choices.
Mirmir was the Norse god of Wisdom, the 0wl is my totem. Mirmir's 0wl. :)

And sometimes people want their eye back! ^.-

For any fan's of LotR, you may or may not recognize my name, as it is taken from the Silmarillion, which his son compiled from all of J. R. R. Tolkiens notes.
Iluvatar was the indifferent creator of the world(including the world beyond middle earth.
He was not a proverbial "god", he had no control over the world, but through music he could shape the events of the world, and the god's followed his great plan, which was nothing but the most perfect music imaginable.
It is also the name of some band. Dont ask me how the hell that happened, but it's a Rush ripoff band.
-
Rush ripoffs just don't compare.

Grim's wish is my command.... Arise from the graveyard

Well, for me Sabrekongol was my 1st original user name of any kind...I basically took 2 game characters i loved Sabrewulf (from Killer Instinct), and Kongol (from The Legend of Dragoon) and just kinda mashed them together...the name goes really well, especially when I add the last name I spent over an hour on EQ trying to figure out....Sabrekongol Brokenfang...now though I'm getting pretty tired of this name, so when MxO comes out I may use one of my other character names i thought up in EQ....or I may use one of them as the whole 1st /last name for the character creater. =P
So that's how Sabrekongol was born...not the most fantasic or interesting, but hey...the name gets the point across that he's a tank.
-
The origin of my name is pretty boring so go grab a beer and pull a chair.
I've been working in IT for a long time. When the time came to choose a name for MxO, I wanted to have something that sounded like a hacker name, something that had some link to computers. That's when I thought of my COBOL programming days (in a previous life). Yes I'm just that old. I even spent some time programming with punch cards and RPG but if you ask about it, I'll deny the whole thing.
As some of you might know, in COBOL when you want to debug a program and you are out of ideas on how to fix a problem, there is a last resort option. You can dump the complete contents of the memory to a file or a printer. You can then go through the arduous task of trying to figure out the value of each variable at that point in time and basically figure out what's going wrong. That process was called a "core dump". So there you go.
I find this thread interesting as I wandered about the origin of many names used by members of this clan.
:)

What's in a name....hmm good question.
I have been a person who could shift from one character to another and create complete identities at the tick of a clock (drop of a dime, new york minute, insert your cliché here,...).
I have made heavy use of Babel Fish to translate English words into other languages to have a unique name but still have a meaning to my persona.
However these things don't always work out (and depending on timing you chosen name may not be available) so you try to come up with something similar to your chosen name.
The first fiasco of my character attempt ended up being daGuin (short for the characters name of David Guin). The first part of the name has no relevance other than being my middle name. The second half of Guin was shortened from penguin since I am a Linux and Unix sysadmin. My original plan was to become something like iceguin or something similar but those variations were taken so I found that daGuin was available and took it.
What I found out was that no one could pronounce it or spell it, so I needed to find something better.
I took some time and some searching (too bad MxO doesn't have a way to check if names are all ready taken, but then again most games don't and it would be pointless). I thought of keeping along the lines of technology, etc and the word Octal popped into my head.
Octal: : of, relating to, or being a number system with a base of eight
Octal: Refers to the base-8 number system, which uses just eight unique symbols (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7). Programs often display data in octal format because it is relatively easy for humans to read and can easily be translated into binary format, which is the most important format for computer. By contrast, decimal format is the easiest format for humans to read because it is the one we use in everyday life, but translating between decimal and binary formats is relatively difficult.
But alas Octal was taken and though the idea behind Octal sounds good, I am not quite Octal in nature. But...., semiOctal??? Yes. Once I figure out how the whole system functions (by getting beat down until I can handle myself physically) I plan to return to my roots and go hacker/coder so I can manipulate the Matrix to my desires.
I don't think the developers will be ready for what I would want to try but it will be interesting to see if someone out there is as twisted as I am.
As for the meaning, I tend to think more like a computer but it is my humanistic nature that allows me to bend the rules when a computer can not, to adapt when the variables are not changeable to a computer.
I might be considered a bit of a rogue since I tend to feel more computer in nature than human, but I am human after all and there isn't a computer in existence that can match the human brain for raw processing power if harnessed correctly.
I don't know if that makes any sense to you (or even to me sometimes), but that is me for this process routine.

'Subtek' sums myself in one word. It started out as my DJ name and later became the name I use online. It has several meanings. First of all, I spin bass heavy music (SUBwoofers), usually with a futuristic edge (TECHnology) from hiphop to jungle/dnb to dub, dancehall and uk garage/grime. It also has to do with my graphic design style, in which the simplest way to describe it would be retro (sub) and futuristic (tech) at the same time.

My real name is Adam Service. I love my last name, it's a very rare name and I researched it just a bit. I guess Service was actually Servis (supposedly) many centuries ago in England. But only a few centuries ago a poet by the name of Sir Robert Service had the name and his kin went to Canada. From Canada some of the families split up, moved to Massachusetts and other stayed there. Then my dad moved to where my mom lives and now here I am, in Van Wert, Ohio.
As for ServiceMaster, I saw "ServiceMaster's Carpet Cleaning" on the side of a big yellow van one day. I thought that was a cool name so I kept it.

I honestly have no idea why I chose Ajax, at the time i was going through a phase of calling myself Perge(my char's name), from something I was writing, and almst immediatly afterwards, i have been using Faust, and so Ajax must have just been a blip in my wimsical personality, and that is the story of my Name.

This is very deep. So i hope you can handle it.

Alright guys, time to give an etymology of my name. I didn't know that Nartak meant anything until I did some research (on Google, took me the better part of 5 minutes).
Nartak comes from the Hindi word... uhh... Nartak and means bard, dancer, and also is a reference to Shiva (the Hindu god). Bard of course being the wandering story teller, dancer being, well, a dancer, and Shiva being the Hindu god of destruction. This basically means, I like to talk, kill lots of stuff, and party! Here's an excerpt from Encyclopedia Mythica (http://www.pantheon.org):
The third deity of the Hindu triad of great gods, the Trimurti. Shiva is called the Destroyer, but has also the aspect of regeneration. As destroyer he is dark and terrible, appearing as a naked ascetic accompanied by a train of hideous demons, encircled with serpents and necklaces of skulls. As auspicious and reproductive power, he is worshipped in the form of the Linga, or phallus.
Shiva is depicted as white, with a dark-blue throat, with several arms and three eyes. He carries a trident and rides a white bull. His consort is Parvati (Devi).
-
so we have a dancing fruit of destruction...hurah!
-
I just put Perge into google and it turns out to be a city from the bible! Yay for random Matrix Bible connections!

Tizona was the sword of El Cid, the greatest Spanish hero to ever live. He used Tizona to take back Spain during the reclamation from the Moors. I'm not going to go into full detail about what he did, it would just be to long.
Well, being spanish my self, I was naturally attracted to this name, and I have used it from then on.
-
So Tizona, we're supposed to use you to take back the construct from The Collective?
-
You could see it that way :P I will be much more help one I hit 50, half way through 44 now.

fuse
n 1: electrical device that can interrupt the flow of electrical current when it is overloaded [syn: electrical fuse] 2: any igniter that is used to initiate the burning of a propellant
I had a list of about 12 possible names before I was even accepted into beta. Some of the runners up:
Agamemnon - Leader of greek forces durring battle of troy. He wasn't that great a guy, and was kind of a pussy-so I passed.
Eos - If I created a woman character this is Latin for "Goddess of Dawn"
Kanoa - I believe this is a form of "The Free One" in Hawaiian
Ras - Reffering to RAS to CAS delay in memory
Bios or Bosi, Ohm
When I came up with Fuse it just clicked.
-
FIRE!!!!! *dances with glee* .....
i'm not a pyro I SWEAR .... *shifty eyes* .... *pulls out lighter* hehe fire hehe ...

Sometimes Grim I truly worry about you.... :D Then again sometimes I don't :p

bumpity bump bump (for the new lil kids)
-
Wow... Dig this one up and give it new life eh!
Styan came about from my brother, who had like 3 latin books just randomly lying around in his room, (he uses them for character names in his stories he writes, not to read them :p) anyway...
The night that I signed on I wanted something original, something that wasn't my previous nick names... (Mr.Magoo or SuperSully, could you imagine having Mr.Magoo run around the matrix??)
So we opened the books and there was the word "Swift" and as you followed down the list from swift, stian was there.
Now I didn't think the i looked to hot, so I looked for a letter that would allow for the same pronounciation. y was the winner.
Just a quick search on google for "stian" you might find this.. "Stian - Swift, Scandinavian"

Did I already tell about mine?
I had applied for MxO beta and re-watched the movies and realized I'd need a cool name.
In EQ, I had great names that I pulled from the air. My main char was Largic, and his last name derrived from my enchanters name, Larrentulle. One of my favorite names I had was for my shaman, Roche. Which means Rock in french of something.
Anyway, back to the story. When I had applied for MxO beta I started collaborating a list of good sounding names that were computer related, or had greek influences. Agamenon was one possibility, but considering the details of his story, I didn't feel it was completely fitting. If I had originally created a female, I wanted her to be Eos, which means "Goddess of dawn", but someone already has it. I had a ton related to a computer part, including Ras (Ras to Cas delay... too close to the character Cas in the film), also Bosi. An anagram of Bios, and also portray a bit of attitude.
A few hours before I found out I was accepted, the word "fuse" just popped inot my head and it just felt right. No real explanation why, but it just fit.

Nightmare Mode: sorta like the dimetric opposite of God Mode in a video game, it is a metaphor for this character's existence: starting fresh, as an RP'er, on the hostile server, with a faction tag that makes everyone want you back in the loading area. The Matrix, cranked up to the hardest possible setting.

Holy Schmoley.... Talk about dragging the ole bones up from the grave :D

I've had the handle "Manic Velocity" for about 10 years.
Jesus H. has it been that long?!
When I was 11 years old, I really started getting into techno/electronic music. One of my favorite bands was Prodigy. Their beautiful fusion of rock, techno, hip-hop, and jungle music really appealed to me. It was different, and not a lot of people were listening to it. I took a trip to the mall one day to pick up their only CD that I didn't have, "Prodigy: Experience".
As I sat at the bus stop waiting for the #23 bus to come take me home, I was flipping through the CD notes and found the bios of all the band members. Keith Flint's bio stood out:
KEITH FLINT (Dancer)
Master of footwork. Creator of manic velocity body movements and techniques.
Hypo-Glocen content 82%
Clytrell balance .007 Centunes
Energy replacement 2000 KJ per second.
The term "manic velocity" sounded really cool, so I adopted it as my handle. Even the license plate on my car reads "MANICV".
manic: affected with or marked by frenzy uncontrolled by reason
velocity: distance traveled per unit time

By the way, I have a good story of my nickname before Fuse; Rubix.
When I had started DJing, a big thing a kid thinks about is his DJ name. So I was with my girlfriend trying to think of a good name. Nothing was really comming up while we were laying there. I picked up a Rubiks Cube and solved the thing, and I made a joke about it. "I'm like a rubiks cube, the more you play with it the harder it gets." Then her eyes lit up and she yelled "DJ Rubiks!". Changing the "ks" to "x" is just the cool thing to do, so I became Rubix. I have been known by that name for about 8 years now, but have slowly been forming into this new Fuse name I like better.

Meh you all know mine, i posted it before. But I did used to have a char on one of the PVP worlds called TickleMeElmo. So there.

Heironymus is actually Hieronymus Bosch the famous painter. Created many paintings about Heaven, Hell, and Earth... I have always enjoyed drawing and painting when really angry... painting has become way to expensive for me now in college so I generally stick to drawing.. but I still enjoy the occasional famous painting here and there.

I really like the reasoning behind Nightmare's name. :D
Mine? I am the story behind my name. Didn't get it from anywhere.

BlueLeapord, aside from the 2005 and the mispelling, is a sign of my pride for the local football team, Louisville Leopards. Their mascot is a Blue Leopard.

I hate cheerleaders, and I hate school/team spirit. That's it blue, your ass is mine. WhiteMyst just looks cool =\ My first name was SeleneTheos, which means Moon God in greek... then i moved to Lohit Chandra which means Red Moon in sanskrit.. i figured it was time for a change. I think im sticking with WhiteMyst, i know the game Myst is spelled with a Y but to tell you the truth i didnt even think about that when I made this name... Not sure how i thought of it... but its kinda pleasing to say and see huh? WhiteMyst...... :) Anyways, my other two characters are Indra and Abadd0n (just spelled with a zero because the O was taken) Abaddon was the cheif of demons, not really the devil... but the devil's army commander so to speak :) Indra is my female character, Indra translates to She Who Walks In The Sea from greek. Just kinda neat :) I have also thought about using the name Achilles or Runner Achilles... cause he pwns. I should look into what White Mist or Mist translates to in greek huh?
P.S. Manic Velocity... that sounds cool ^_^ My favorite term in physics was Terminal Velocity... it just sounded like.... PWHEH YEA !!! TERMINAL VELOCITY BIIIIIOOOOOOOTCH! ... :) I could be your counterpart :p... MANIC VELOCITY, AND HIS SIDEKICK TERMNIAL VELOCITY BOY!!!! "Look I cant fall faster than 9.8 f/s ... or whatever it was >.< Terminal Velocity is the maximum speed at which gravity can pull you down without any assistance or hinderance such as air resistance or downward winds... if those exist.
~Jeff, the god of biscuts <- Another good name, and no my name isn't jeff

If you hate cheerleaders you might as well leave the ship then.

I hate cheerleaders, and I hate school/team spirit.
##Application to the Carpe Diem terminated.
##Application to the Big Red Marching Machine sent.
##Suggests to Misty Boy to try marching, just once, and not enjoy the "school/team spirit" when just WATCHING the show exhausts you and the Alma Mater is so beautiful people from OTHER schools start crying .... biatch :p
P.S. I revived the thread because someone sent me a PM asking about my name, so I thought they prolly want to know about everyone else's', too >^_^<
P.P.S. I really need to get one of those handy VHS to DVD recorders and put last year's show up for you guys to see .... we definately ended by packing in 250 people in a 10 meter square .... and then, there was Tuba Fire hehehehehehe

....... marching band is cool as long as they are good. But fuck the school, im here to learn not promote them. They teach me, I leave, I get a job, i continue on with my miserable life. I dont need to make those little... woo school pitstops. And as for hating cheerleaders... i hate those loud obnoxious noises they make, and that yay team thingy..... but i dont mind looking at them ^_~ -purrr- Too bad grim is a band geek and not a cheerleader huh >> << Did i say that out loud? Whoops. :p
I actually love band, the really good ones are cool... that takes mad skills. However im more of a vivaldi, the four seasons classical guy (however i would prefer trance and rock or whatever to classical.... if i have to choose a genre in classical, low key downbeat :) ).... not that happy stuff they like to play :) But ok ok... for the sake of getting on the carpe diem. Go team! Go band! And cheerleaders... just try not to burn my virgin eyes with your slut-ness ^_~ Oh and dont wear shorts... that ruins the fun.

heh, i'm too big to be a cheerleader. no joke, they are all 5 foot and less than 100 pounds. ^_^ and the guys are all close to 6 foot and ripped like bodybuilders .... i had one as a roommate my first semester, the only lil black cheerleader, and she was kick ass. especially at 3 in the morning when some guys came pounding on our neighbor's door (she wasn't even there!) and my roommate goes to the door, eyes still shut, and does this "shut the fuck up" that almost sounded like a question ..... definately high-lareous ..... but it's hard to hate the cheerleaders here when they work with the band a lot, they are pretty close to each other, and last year we lost one in a car accident ... soooooo yeah, it's the dancers here that are frowned upon. it is no longer interpretive dance. it's interpretive sex. and it's really bad because then during basketball season they bring in the younglings, and the lil 3-year-old dancers are wearing the same skimpy outfits and doing the same vulgar moves as the college girls ... *shudder* ....

I dont know if I ever posted in this thread way back when.. so I'll answer it anyway, the name Adrenaline is the same one I use online, and sometimes in tech articles I write, or it's listed as "Chris 'adrenaline' Darbro". It's a hacker handle Ive had or years, I had an old handle when I was a kid that had a not too good paper trail behind it, and needed something new, between bmx, bungee jumping and me always wanting to find anything I could do to scare the shit out of myself to get a rush, the name just fit one day, and kinda stuck.
