This is based on their latest "The Lost Suns" comic info; 5 issues starting in June would take them to Oct. 4th, assuming the usual Tuesday release day. Let the 4th be with us please!
http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20110603-0
Features a concurrent storyline that runs with the start of TOR and threads through the in-game stories we will be playing.
I'm putting money down on Oct. 4th now. As much as I'd love for it to be sooner (and as much as I fear it will be later).
What are the chances we'll get a date from E3?
-
People have come up with theories before based on the timeline videos. But then that got all screwy, so...
-
yeah, honestly I dont think BioWare knows when the game is coming out. The original timeline theory (being one a month) led up to the spring target release date, yet when we missed that there just became far less timeline updates (i dont think there has been one since the spring release schedule). then there is the book release theory (also being around october).
I think if they knew when the game would be released for sure, we would already have a release day. Its only been asked, pleaded, begged, and raged about for the last year almost.
-
well apparently they are playable demoing it at eurogamer at earls court in september so you can throw out a any release before september if theres any uk people going to eurogamer let me know as ill be there with 6 other old mxo players
-
They have already said they will be demoing it before and after release.
-
Earls Court is where I spent a month working in London!
But yeah, the demo could still be after release.

But the highlight of your trip was of course the mrs nocry and mini nocry experience;) or subb of course!

The Revan book is out in November - and they've said that they want this book to come out AFTER the game, so you can't guess the Revan plot lines.

now THAT i like to hear!
Edit: well now, that info from Subb combined with the Nov. 15th release date that Del Ray has for the Revan book. I think the latest they'd release is the 1st or 8th of Nov. leaning probably towards having 2 weeks separation between game and book, rather than just one. Who knows though.
so most likely somewhere between Oct. 4th and Nov. 8th! woo! I'm just glad that it's looking like late Nov. is off the table.
-
My original theory was November/dec. My original reasoning for this is because blizzard always releases their WoW titles around that time frame. Sounds stupid I know but blizzard has the mmo throne and November has always worked well for them. However, I do like Eeth's theory - It just became my proxy theory.

We will not be getting a release date at E3:
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=328878
Steven Reid points out that just because they are announcing the Origin download thingy for EA doesn't mean that they will be giving out a release date. He pretty much blatently says "no release date will be announced at E3".
-
Mr Reid does say in that post that when they do get ready to announce a release date, we will all know its coming in advance. most likely due to the hype train being in full steam at that point.
-
... most likely due to the hype train being in full steam at that point.
Are you saying the hype train is NOT at full speed already? :P The hype is basically the trailer for Super 8.. a derailed train with something trying to break out of it.
-
well to be honest, most of the hype train comes from outside media and fans more than it does from bioware itself. "less is more" approach to marketing hype has worked well here, as most of the momentum is carried by us than it is by the team over at bioware. if anything they often speak against the hype trying to keep it down.
but once we have a release date, you can imagine the hype to be 100 times what it is now. the general forums really only have a few hundred active posters that post daily, it will jump to the thousands I imagine when this thing approaches release.

Boom, my original prediction i made 2 years ago holding up, November release.

I am not as worried about the polish of the game after having seen bits of it now, but I am worried about the size of the company and how they transition to a post launch team actually being the hindrance to a successful release.
They did the right thing by pushing back the target date to "fall of 2011," however, still just looking at other MMO's and how their launches go and the trend is usually delay further or bumpy road or both...
I remain cautious.

I just watched that video and was going to post here about it.
I imagine if Razer is releasing these peripherals at the same time that the game is coming out, then Bioware would be updating them with the target release month. Based on this guy's faux pas, sounds like Razer was being told to HOPEFULLY expect November.

In the play test video, they mentioned they're still on for a 2011 release.

moar infos from EA's Analyst Event
http://www.askajedi.com/2011/06/08/e3-2011-ea-analyst-event/
-
yeah based on that accompanying release timeline image from the EA analyst event, many jackasses on the TOR forums think the game will be out before BF3. they are morons that can't comprehend the concept of visual design communicating information.
-
anyone know what origin phase 2 and 3 entail? i didnt bother listening to another business conference.

I'm probably going to annoy more than a few people who think there is some actual news regarding a release date. Well, no, just confirmation of a "when it's done" attitude, along with hints they would slip to 2012 if need be.
With EA yet to pinpoint an exact release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware has said its "main focus" now is making sure the game is "solid" enough to "pull the trigger".
Speaking to Eurogamer at Gamescom last week, BioWare co-founder Dr. Greg Zeschuk reiterated the official line that his studio was "targeting holiday" for the launch of the ambitious MMO.
But he explained that it was vital from day one - whenever that may be - to ensure the game was "available, reliable, [and] really solid".
He said: "We're doing our very best to get it out as fast as we can. With a game like this, getting it all right, getting all the server stuff right is just as important as getting the game right."
Seeking to ease fears that the game would slip into 2012, he added: "We're trying, as fast as we can. That's the reality. It's literally live right now; we've been doing a lot of testing with a lot of people behind the scenes.
"At any one time there are thousands of people playing the game. Starting next month [when public beta weekends are scheduled] we're really going to start expanding that testing cycle."
Zeschuk acknowledged that the challenges BioWare was dealing with for the MMO were new territory for the company.
"It's one thing to get the game done, another to ensure you can login thousands of people a minute," he said. "It's a different sort of requirement. The things you need to get done to ship this are very different from a standard game. A standard game, this is like five of them, right?"
Despite producing some of the biggest franchises in gaming, Zeschuk admitted SWTOR was "kinda daunting", adding: "This game's launch is going to be one of the biggest launches ever in the history of gaming.
"Our job is really simple: making sure it's great when it comes out. We're going to do the right thing for the fans, for the product. It's a big deal but we're doing our very best to get it out as fast as we can."
-
We've waited what, three years now? The release date doesn't concern me at all anymore.
I'm more concerned about actually being able log in when the day finally comes. How many people have pre-ordered at this point? The first few days are going to be rough.
-
rough.
Rough? Just how your mother likes it Trebek.
So long as we can all log in, and not have to wait in a queue for 1+ hours, I will be fine even if the release date gets pushed back.
I hope not, but I wouldn't be crazy upset about it.
-
Please, I called first quarter of 2012 like a year ago.
