Thought this could be something Manic looks into:

-
Fuck yes.
I'll create three adverts (one for each size requirement) and submit them tomorrow night.
-
This is harder than I thought. I'm keeping them in theme with our RP. Hopefully that makes us stand out among the other guild ads.
Here's the wide format:

OoOo...looks very pretty! Do you want me to put this in the FA forum to get feedback from others?
-
Sure. I have family obligations later today, but I'll be working on the two other ads up until then, and possibly later tonight.
-
Took another look at it and wasn't sold on the distinct lack of white, so I gave it another go:

Any preference on which one we should use?
-
I like the first better. Second looks like it has too much whitespace.
Edit: Also... Great idea, and great images. NJ.
-
Tasty...
I'm seeing the top "disappearances" bit as a tag line... but it doesn't quite hit 100% IMO.
Could there be something a bit more snappy?
Still, sweeeeet.
-
I think I prefer the first as well, the lack of white works for contrast with the black and white faces.
-
second one puts more focus on the message, the "space" background is pretty full of stuff that takes your eye away from the text and logos. much more unified i think, the second one that is. nice stuff Manic.
-
I agree with Keta, the tagline seems a bit long and clunky. Is there a more succinct way of saying that? I can't come up with anything good...
Other than that, I'm really digging both the adverts.
-
I like the first but agree the tagline could use tweaking.
-
The "disappearances" line is from the challenge. It's one of the first things a new recruit hears through the ship console, so I figured it would be a nice reference. But I can see how it doesn't quite "fit".
Maybe just "Follow the signal" up at the top, with "The Furious Angels" in the middle with the URL underneath?
-
actually. I think the tagline should simply be something like
"Crack the code: YMESCJMFXZWTGYEUSGMUHLWTARYVIEMFKLSBGC"
Or
"Can you follow the signal: YMESCJMFXZWTGYEUSGMUHLWTARYVIEMFKLSBGC"
Something like that. That would intrigue them right off the bat.
-
...except you need the riddle to actually crack it...
-
Why not something else similar to what you hear later in the challenge like "Are you ready?" or even "Are you ready for the call of the angels?"
Something having to do with destiny, "Destiny is not a matter of chance" which could be expanded to "destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a choice"
I love this quote though I know it's long "If a man is not rising upwards to be an angel, depend upon it, he is sinking downwards to be a devil"
These are pretty cocky but I like them anyway, "When the student is ready, the master appears." or "Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?" or "He spake well who said that graves are the footprints of angels"
Something like that followed with the follow the signal and then the website.

I like this. Simple and a little mysterious. QR code hidden on there somewhere?
-
Changed the tag line to "Follow the signal". I also darkened the starry background to make it less distracting.

Well they won't be able to solve it on the ad. They'll more than likely go to our website to look for clues. It'll take them to the challenge and then they can start.
Either way, I think putting something cryptic in the ad is more our style. If not part of the puzzle then some other puzzle.

possibly make the background gradient slightly more opaque so that "the furious angels" and "www.thefuriousangels.com" pop a little more.
i dig it though, good stuff.
and on the original, is there room to move "the furious angels" up a bit so that "the" doesn't intersect Sateel's collar piece? it might throw off the overall balance of it though, just something to possibly try real quick and see what you think Manic.
-
I take it all back, they look awesome!
-
Wow great work as always Manic. Awesome!
-
Hey, how about this one:

But with the tagline changed to, "Will you follow the signal...?"
:)
Adds a little bit more of the mystery and meaning while being more succinct.

There we go! Perfect, I love it Manic.
Succinct, to the point, and ties in with our recruitment challenge.
DiploManic for President!
-
That "R" in RUMORS looks huge? Or is it just me?

Loaded with sexy that image is.

Also I like the brightness in the FA symbol in the 1st one... Is that one out?
-
Agreed. Make the all the text in the top tag line the same size and make the logo more opaque

I'm not really seeing confusion or mystery in their facial expressions. Can you fix this? ;)

I love it!!! You are doing an amazing job. Thanks for all the hard work and dealing with all the differing opinions on how it should look and the tag line.
-
I'll be busy Friday and Saturday, so tonight is really crunch time to get these done. If you have any input on the last two designs, please weigh in now!
-
Everything looks good to me!
-
I agree, looks great! I like how AP is getting in on the action!
Really good job man!
-
If there are no other suggestions, I'll submit them tonight.
-
DO IT!

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but looking at some of the competition, I'd say we're a shoe-in.
-
Nice work man!

Approved:

They edited my post and highlighted "Wide format" in green. I assume that's the image they'll be using.
-
Looks like everyone's entries were approved. How many ad spaces do they have??
-
How many ad spaces do they have??
It's not a printed magazine, which means no incurred costs for paper and ink, so... as much as they want.
-
Likely be a randomised ad on the pages, rather than a specific ad per page...
-
Ah, I assumed they were making it a pdf as if it were a printed magazine, and therefore would have set ads that matched the page.
-
Hmmmn, as did I but it is downloadable:
http://www.tormag.net/magazine
August issue has 21 pages, with some guild adverts in it already.
I would guess then that all adverts have been approved (as in "suitable" for use), but have not been chosen as yet?
-
Holy crap. The SW:TOR Razer peripherals on page 14. NNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG
-
Updates yet?
-
Our submission was for the September issue. We should see something in about two weeks.
-
anyone up for knocking out some coverart?

Looks like the contest ended on August 15th.

I figured it would be an ongoing thing. No one really participated.
