as some of you know, im 16. I've been saving my money up, and i have $500. My problem is, i dunno to if i should keep saving up for the car, or if i should buy a new graphics card. this card is critical for my MxO playing, and i havent been able to play games that came out in the last month, and probably any that come out in the future. I can probably get the card for free in november, but
its gonna be kinda shitty to not play anything that comes out.

well that would depend on which you would really use more ... i mean i'm 19 and i dont have a car ... i dont need one since when i'm at college i walk everywhere and my parents can drive me home and back ... since you are still in hs, if you can bum a ride from someone i would say do that ... having a car is really nice but cars are going to cost a lot more than a graphics card (cost of car plus insurance and stuff like that). i would say get the card first, and then save up for a car later.
for a car, even if its a beater that costs $300, you'll still be paying insurance every month so you'll want to have started with more than $500. if you get a $200 card, then you still have $300 left to keep saving for a car and insurance, but if you get the car first, the card you will most likely not be able to get until waaaayyy after mxo comes out ... and that would just be terrible!! :P

sorry, but i need a car. my parents arn't at home enough as it is, so im dependant on myself to drive me to work, school, g/f's. plus i can get out and party whenever i want, or if i have the munchies.
-
Munchies are bad for you. I'd go with the card. =)
-
In my opinion, unless you have a job that your parents cant drive you to, nab the card first.
-
Personally, I think you should go for the graphics card. When we talked about driving that one time, you mentioned that everyplace worth going to where you live was within walking distance, so if that's true then you most likely would not need the car.
-
yeah, i am going to get the card, ill still have a couple hundred bucks left over anyways, and i can save that
just gotta wait for parents to come home..need credit cards... *waits*

If I were you, I would snap up one of the Radeon 9800 Pro's on eBay.
Now that the next-gen cards are out, the've gotten a lot cheaper, and are still top-of-the-line cards.
-
How much do you think you could snag one for on ebay?
-
hmm personally i would have gone with the car but thats just me especially since with a car you could get a job and drive their and get payed such amount of money each hour and build up that money pretty quick
-
get the Rx800pro... dont settle for less...
-
I argee with Seven. Get the highest end card now. At least you won't have to get a new one in the next year. I would go with the Rx800 (Even thought the Geforce did get better scores, unless you have that 480watt power supply it not worth it)
-
1) Cars are for noobs.
2)I like my Radeon 9800 pro. I can run Doom 3 at high (actually been running it at ultra at 1280 x 1024 lately) with no problems and I'm not overclocking. But if you are going to spend $500 dollars on a card get the x800.
-
Well, I got to tell you, I'm 17, I've had my own car since I was 15. almost exactly 2 years now. I almost never use it because I'm too busy at home playing games with my cool graphics card :-P I would say get the card too. You can always get a ride from your parents or bum one from a friend, but a good graphics card normaly stays in a persons computer and they get kind of angry when you try borrowing it, even if it is for the noble cause of playing high-end kick ass video games (I actualy tried this once, didn't go over well). Good luck with your new graphics card :-)
-
Get the car. The computer should always take a back seat to real life.
Plus, you're saying that if you wait three months you can get the card for free anyhow? You'd be stupid not to have three months worth of patience and save your ass half a grand.
I was sixteen once, I know how hard it is to save money at that age. Even with a job. Trust me, keep saving up for the car.
-
Yes. Car>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Card.
Although, a $500Car is only > than a $500 card.
Who knows? Maybe his job involves the computer.
-
I was under the impression that he'd be saving up for a car, not spending 500 dollars on a car.
If that money is burning a hole in your pocket, and you are incapable of saving it, then you might as well buy a new graphics card, because whatever vehicle you end up purchasing for 500 dollars won't live very long unless it's a tricycle.
