Okay, this thread is here for all of you to announce the C>D's that you have bought that you suggest others to go out and pick up. Kepp it relatively new, within a year at most.
Pick #1: To the 5 Boroughs, Beastie Boys
This is rap at its peak. Although it no Paul's Boutique, its the best rap album to come out in five years. Not for hardcore republican's.
Pick #2: Where You Want To Be, Taking Back Sunday
This is one of the two emo band's I will listen to. They show they're real musicians on New American Classic's, and are just generally better. Especially live.
Pick #3: In keeping the secrets of silent earth: 3, Coheed and Cambria
This is one fucked up album. Packed with the proverbial "screamo", it hit's a lot darker than a lot of other emo music. It also has a secret song, which is emo's awnser to Bohemian Raphsody
Pick #4: Contraband, Velvet Revolver
Pick this album up if you can. Not much to say, nothing revolutionary, no song is incredible or innovative, but it is one damn good c.d.

Whoa. People still buy music?
-
I'm an Eminem fan myself, though I haven't purchased a single CD of his yet. The last two CD's I picked up was Evanescence's FALLEN and Christina Aguilera's self named title.
And before anyone makes a fag comment toward me, I'd just like to say that I enjoy vocal range in my music. Christina Aguilera and Amy from Evanescence have unbelievable range, and whether or not you like their music, there's no disputing that those two girls can sing like their very souls are being called upon.
I tend to like all types of music. I like instramental a lot, as well as rap, rock, pop, R&B, some country, jazz, all sorts. But I don't get into music in quite the way I do movies, writing or games, so 90% of all the music I hear comes from popular radio stations, which tend to be all new, pop culture inspired stuff.
We are all products of our environment. It's useless to fight that simple truth. I'm not one to stick up for the artistic quality of singers in this day in age, and I often make the distinction between entertainer and artist. Most of what I listen to is entertaining, not art.

Fag!
...
...
*points at a bundle of sticks* Anyhow, Evanescence is sort of dark and depressing, so I haven't listened to it lately. As for picks #3 and #4, I concur completely and whole heartedly on the amount of melodic pwnage contained on the plastic pieces. Note to self: Discover what Bohemian Rhapsody is.
-
.........wow.
Bohemian Raphsody is one of the greatest, if wierdiest, songs ever made. Alhough I'm no longer sure, I do believe it was Queen who sung it.
Correct me if im wrong. Continue with your c.d. picks if you would.
-
The Last Samurai soundtrack is some pretty sweet music.
-
Seigmen - Total
Deftones - Deftones
Deftones - Adrenalin
Static-X - Shadowzone
Zeromancer - CYL and Eurotrash
Go for it :D.
-
I havent bought a CD since Napster was invented, myself.
-
sorry but i'd have to agree with acid, lol i havn't bought a cd in forever!! ummm yah pretty much since napster was invented i stopped buying cds. except from bands i really really like :)
-
Dieselboy - Dungeon Masters Guide
....is the only CD I've *purchased* in a long time, but...it goes to good peoples so...
And, love the Beasies...but Im not buying "enhanced CD's" . In FACT...nothing could push me farther away from any sympathy for the *censored*-IAA than crap like that. Not that I really had any for them in the first place, but....
Now...of late I've been listening to that Dieselboy and the following CD's:
DJ Bagel - Survival Tactics
Kindred Spirits: A tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash (Mix of Country and Blues artists...some decent covers/tributes.)
Susan Tedeschi - Just Won't Burn
Dieselboy/Bagel - DnB fo you boo-tay, Susan Tedeschi...blues for your soul...and...well...Johnny Cash. If you don't know, you need to.
And...yes, Queen sings Bohemian Rhapsody.
I had that on vinyl. Back in the day.
-
Tyshalle if you're looking for vocal range then Bruce Dickenson from iron maiden is your man, or if you want to stretch that to the point of insanity then there's Justin from the Darkness, yay :D
-
Muse - Absoloution
Snow Patrol - Final Straw
Him - And love said no....
Jamie Cullum - Twenty somthing
Sean paul - (not sure of the album name)
Those would be the top 5 of the last year or so I reccomend for this point in time. It increasingly changes as I listen to different music.
-
Justin Hawkins rocks.
-
I was going to say before I saw Erebus' post, listen to some Iron Maiden with Bruce Dickenson as their vocalist. As for Velvet Revolver they are awesome and I am going to see them live in a month, should be sweet. Other bands I recommend:
Metallica (pure genius)
Jimi Hendrix (legend)
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Anthrax
Led Zepplin
Pearl Jam
Thin Lizzy
Queen
Creed
AC/DC
... pretty much anything actually.. Elliott Smith is good
NOFX are cool
-
well .... being as i just got back from a gig playing French horn for the musical "once upon a mattress" ... that's insane music. insanely CHEESY (hehe :P ), but hard to play. i, for one, have always cast my vote on instrumental sountracks mainly because they have good horn parts :D or else musicals. those are the only ones i buy. if it's an artist, i just cheat and DL it ... **oops** ... and when the music is DLed ... it's nothing but completely random choices ... got some eminem ... christina .... nirvana .... christmas music that i listen to in the middle of july ... eric clapton (he's just random all by hisself) ... michael crawford ... got some led and pink floyd ... yay for AC/DC (we actually did a marching band show to AC/DC and other rock bands ... it was on the verge of "those songs should not be redone for a MARCHING BAND" ... but somehow it worked ... with a 250+ piece marching band it's hard to go wrong hehe) ....
ANYCRAPPE!! top cds to buy .... lotr soundtracks .... all three .... GOOD STUFF .... pirates of the caribbean soundtrack is awesome, too ... i'll shut up now ...
-
These are the only groups from which I would buy a cd.
1. RCHP
2. The Strokes
3. Blink 182
-
If you like weird sounding techno stuff, get Mouse on Mars. Any of their stuff. But it's not dance techno because dance techno sucks ass.
-
Wow, they still sell CD's with pre-recorded music. I think 85% of my CD collection is burned. Well, right now I've been getting away from rock and listening to more rap, like:
Twista - Kamikaze
Lloyd Banks - Hunger for More
Chingy - Jackpot
The only rock/alternative that I always listen to is Slipknot and Story of the Year. Oh yeah, and classic rock like Zeppelin and AC/DC.
-
Lesse... recently I've been listening to...
Evanescence
Linkin Park
Ill Nino
Story of the Year
Hoobastank
O.C. Supertones
Relient K
Yellowcard
Soundtracks...
Anything Kael sends to me claiming that it's awesome...
-
I recently picked up Hot Fuss by the Killers, and it's excellent. I guess they're from Las Vegas, but they have a definite British sound - sorta the Cure meets the Smiths with a little U2 in there somewhere. I guess they're well-known in England, but just hitting the billboards in the US.
Also, here's some of my all-time favorite albums (not including 'best of's):
Exile On Main Street, The Rolling Stones
In Through The Out Door, Led Zeppelin
Blood Sugar Sex Magic, The Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Joshua Tree, U2
Permission To Land, The Darkness
Ok Computer, Radiohead
Back In Black, AC/DC
The White Album, The Beatles
....and many more
-
Ok, although I said no vintage album's, I'll put up four I think everyone should have.
#4 Album of all time: Back in Black, AC/DC
#3 Album of all time: Tragic Kingdom, No Doubt
#2 Album of all time: Paul's Boutique, Beastie Boy's
And the greatest album ever, at least to me....
#1 Album of all time: Led Zeppelin IV/Zoso, Led Zeppelin
Those are the four most well made album's ever, in my opinion.
To make my post even freaking longer, C.D.'s that I love and you should buy. Now. Why arent you at your local music store yet?
#4: Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park: Although now they mellowed out a lot on Meteora, this was a raw clash of Metal, techno, and rap, and the best debut of the last four years to me.
#3: The Eminem Show, Eminem: I liked this far better than any of his other c.d.'s. It seemed the most thought out, with powerful lyric's reaching out to more than his ex wife and mom.
#2: To the Five Borough's, Beastie Boy's: I find it to be the most listenable of any rap album ever. I can stick this in my c.d. player and not switch it out all day. Although, Paul's Boutique and Liscense to Ill hit you a lot harder.
#1: Janes Addiction, Janes Addiction: There is no reason to not buy this c.d. It is one of the greatest album's of all time, by one of the best bnds of all time.
Yes, I did have a lot of time to burn. Hope you had fun reading that huge list.
BTW, if you didnt notice, I seriously suggest you at least "download" some of the songs of those albums. They all rock, or for the rap albums, um, well, ROCK.
-
hmm i dont listen to newer music. with the execption of linken park and several other bands at least. i like the old stuff ie:led zepplin and the grateful dead. and i didnt know people still purchased cds when you could so easily pirate them.
-
I'm going to have to do favourite bands, as its just too hard to narrow down to a few albums :)
Iron Maiden (don't knock it if you haven't tried it, and no, hearing Run to the Hills doesn't count)
Metallica (Disappointed with their new stuff, but the old is just, incredible)
Thin Lizzy
Deep Purple
AC/DC
Guns n Roses
Nirvana
Foo Fighters
Ozzy/ Sabbath
Chili Peppers
Clappers
Dire Straits
The Darkness
Muse
Audioslave (Tom Morello rifs at their best, except for Rage)
Also, like Oronos said, Velvet Revlover new and upcoming band, sound awesome and have Duff and Slash from G&R. :D
-
I listen to a LOT ot techno, but I don't know if I would call it dance. I like the majority of what was listed above but I couldn't really pick a fave right now...too much out there.
I retract that - Staind would rank very near if not at the top of my list.
-
Led Zeppelin is the best band of all time. No arguments.
This is somewhat unrelated, as we are discussing good music, but...
Billboard Top Ten:
2. Ashlee Simpson
What is the world coming too...
-
The world is going to preteens.
Some of the more interesting albums on the top 50 this week:
1. Now 16, Varius Artists-Who the hell still buys Now?
3. Where You Want To Be, Taking Back Sunday- Yes! Good band, that's finally getting attention. At least, getting attention except for the warp tour groupies.
5. Confessions, Usher- What the hell? Please, stop buying this people. It's sold enough. Just get someone to burn it for you.
17. Songs about jane, Maroon 5- After She Will Be loved came out, I actually went out and bought this C.d. Its a good, well um, kind of a wierd soft rock/pop album. It should be higher even though its been out for a god awful amount of time.
35. To The Five Boroughs, Beastie Boys- If you guys havent figured i out, I love the beastie boys. Buy this album, its by far the best album to come out this year.
49. Meteora, Linkin Park- Didnt this damn album come out 17 months ago? Why the hell is it still in the top 50? Its a good album for damn sure, but its just wierd its still so high up, when 50 cent finally fell off. Yes! Victory for rock music!
Thats my wrap up for this weeks sales. A couple of interesting other things are Lloyd Banks at 9 (much better than 50, in my opinion), The spider man 2 soundtrack at 21 still, making it one of the best selling soundtracks in quiet (did I spell that right?) a while.
Also, Franz Ferdinand is sticking it out at 46. Yay!
-
I was trying to pick something not named yet so I will go with Disturbed-"believe". I don't know what it is but something about their music just makes me get all pumped up.
-
sonata arctica- silence, winterhearts guild
stratovarius-... cant think of anything
SOAD- toxicity
cant think of anything else...at the moment im tired...
-
zeromancer
godhead
Everytime I die
Walls of Jerico
Nirvana
