This was linked on reddit today. I'm totally ignorant as to how Tanking works in this game however I'll pass this along:
This is the original thread:

This is the reddit conversation about it:
http://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/comments/qk6bb/tests_suggest_taunts_generate_30_threat_of_the/
And here are some of the comments that seem to summarize:
Tests suggest taunts generate +30% threat of the current target, making them the best aggro move
A tank should taunt every time he can for maximum threat/aggro generation.
An important implication of this is that gearing for threat is basically pointless for tanking single targets. The ability to taunt for a free 30% increase in threat means that as a fight goes on, the tank's threat increases exponentially. No amount of linear threat gain from attacks will even come close after the first few taunts of a fight.
This needs to be repeated over and over, as I still see so many other tanks complaining that they cannot keep threat over their DPS. I think too many are confusing SWTOR threat mechanics with WoW threat mechanics and haven't come to terms with the fact that this is a different game yet.
Hopefully this information gets out there. When i started in ops, I had a huge problem because I came from games where taunting meant you sucked at your job. Once I started taunting on cooldown, I rarely had problems.

Yep, that works great if we (Guardians) only have 1 target. When we have big trash pulls that's not sustainable. Our taunts only spike us to the top threat for 6 seconds, then we're back in competition with DPS and healing for that aggro. We have 1 AoE taunt that has a 45 sec cooldown and no other AoE threat generating abilities other than our damage output. Can I get a cleave?
Fortunately as everyone gets geared up, it's not as huge of a problem. Most everyone in the raid can handle trash chewing on them for a few seconds, and we're able to keep the boss focused on us.

Cyclone Slash seems to be popular with these guys, used along side sweep. Is it bad?
cyclone slash is better than it seems..... tanking a group where say there's an elite and 3 weaker enemies, dumping your focus into a force sweep you can follow easily with 2 or 3 cyclones = dead regulars. Think of it as the 'wariror cleave' from that other game.
seriously...its better than it sounds, at least for guardians.

Cyclone Slash: Will it hold aggro off a healer? Yes, if the tank gets a head start. Will it hold aggro off an AoE murder machine? No.
