Hey guys here's a question I have.
I'd like to get your opinion on this.
I've been reading the city map guide lately and learning about all the locations and gangs.
It seems like all members of a gang have something in common to identify them as members of that gang. Sometimes its a clothing style (leather jacket, etc) or a tattoo, or something like that.
I know the FAs are not a "gang" but a faction. Who would be for having some kind of visual "feature" that would be common to all FA members ?
Of course there are pros and cons to this.
Pros: Other FA members can identify you more easily.
Cons: Enemies of the FAs can identify you more easily.
I think if we keep that "common feature" a secret, it might be a good thing. Anyways, if someone really wants to go "incognito", there's always the spy abilities.
Of course, there's still a lot of things we don't know about the game. As some mentioned, if your character has it's name and faction floating above his head, this might not be useful.
Also some people might want full freedom when creating their RSI. I would see that more as a suggestion than an obligation.
Anyways let me know what you think.
-
it seems like a good idea. the main problem i see is spy's from other fractions using it to enter our inner circle, and try to destroy us from whithin
-
A load of people discussed having a tattoo, this way you get to choose your basic RSI, but you still show you're part of the clan.
-
We are a very secretetive clan, and I like it that way. Even if you can read faction status by rightclicking on someone or something like that..something common visual doesn't really fall in taste with me.
It gives a feel of showing off I think. Plus, as soon as people figured this out, we would have lots of people running around with just that clothing or tattoo or hat or whatever..
Possible "Counterproductive" in that way, but I'll go with "Not at all useful".
No offense :).
-
I don't like it because I want to make my RSI the way I want it. Kinda ruins it if we all have to do something similar.
-
I'd put a tattoo on, as long as it was complelty covered by a shirt
-
Sorry, but I think that making people choose something to put on thier RSI is going to actually take away from the gaming expereince. One of the things MxO boasts so much about is the ability to freely choose from hundreds of clothing options. I think we wouldn't be doing ourselves and teh game any justice if we were to wear something to show our alliegiance. Sorry, but I'm going with not at all useful.
-
As a spy, I wish to melt into the background.
I want to wear whatever BP's are wearing... I think that we may stand out a little, and this may provoke attacks. I would suggest an optional clothing line, if we really want to show off (like 20 of us jacked in, all together).
-
Good point Orasu.
I kind of expected that most people wouldn't like that but I thought I'd throw the idea out there anyway :-)
It's true that the FAs are a secretive faction so I guess the less is known about us the better.
I wonder if we'll be able to change our RSIs during gamplay or if this is a thing you do only once at the beginning.
-
ihad a thought, i know it does not go with the rest of the forum's pattern, but there is a site where you can design your own t-shirts and get them printed, http://buythet-shirt.com/index_1.asp you can even put a logo you have designed on there, i was thinking we could all put our dog tags (those who have one.) on a t-shirt to advertise the site. What do you all think.
-
If there is a clan out there that does choose to hunt us, and they do become somewhat strong, they will find out how to identify us, and they will soon be able to pick us out of a crowd much quicker.
Other then that its an alright idea, maybe if its a tattoo on our shoulder, i'm not really up for wearing a big ass jacket that has an angel on the back.... wouldn't really want anything that interferes with the look i'm hoping to get in mxo.
-
Hells angels, yeah! :D
I think we would be able to change our clothing in the matrix. I expect the bodily appearance is something that will only be chosen once, in the beginning...except if there is some hacker/spy ability that allows a change of appearance.

I agree with this. It wouldn't be as much fun if our appearance was chosen for us. Plus I think enemies being able to easily identify us outweighs members being able to identify each other.
-
One thing I forgot to add is our members should know who is in FA.We aren't details or numbers, we are all people, and each one of us makes a difference.
-
Well, I can see both sides of the story here, and what I can say is this, it would look cool as hell in a clan battle if we were all uniformed. Perhaps we could just keep uniforms to times when we are all going to be meeting, such as a clan war. Or perhaps ships could have their own uniforms?
-
thats not a bad idea lothori, it would make things more interesting.
-
Just thought of another problem. There is no system where you can upload special tattoo's,badges, or anything. What would be stopping non-fa from just copying our uniforms?
-
Uniforms for clan wars sounds like a good idea because then it's pretty obvious who's in what clan. And as Eligoh said, we should probably know who's in the clan anyway.
-
the tatoo idea is the better idea, as long as it is somthing only the FA can understand.
-
Well I don't know if it's because we're two months away from election day and it's still a dead heat but this poll currently is in a dead heat too. As of now we got 10 votes:
Very useful: 2
Somewhat useful: 3
Not at all useful: 3
Counterproductive: 2
So basically 50 % for a common RSI feature, 50 % against.
So I guess the jury is still out :-)
-
I agree with the not useful side of the matter. While it would be cool at times, like when we're all gathered together, it just doesn't seem useful otherwise.
-
I think that it could cause problems if people could instantly tell someone was in the FA. For example, if a spy was spying on a group and they were like captured or killed or something, the people could instantly tell that the person was FA and then their faction would retaliate against us. However, if there is already something that shows wat faction ur in, id see it as a possibility.
Another idea could be that we all get something small the same, like one or two things that no one but FA would have, except by a really rare coincidence, and that no one would be able to easily recognize as making a person FA related.
-
the only upside i can see to having a clan tattoo or something would be that it canoot be removed ... that way if a spy from another clan tries to ally with us they can't do a whole lot of faking it if they don't have a tattoo ... but yeah other than that it's a cool idea but not practical
-
only prob we got is that were suppose to be secretive and blend in, if people know what colors we are. we stick out like a sore thumb :)
-
Core, those numbers don't show a standoff. The counter-rproductive means that tey're seeing it as a no. So all-in-all I think mosty people have negative feelings abut this.
Even though we're a caln this is still a game, and we want the game to be fun. I think it'd become extrmely unfun if we were told to get some sort of badge on ourselves.
-
Counterproductive, tattoos are as far as I would go for unity. Reason being as soon as someone works out what we all wear in common then we have a big red marker above our head saying, "Kill us, we're dumb." No offense. Perhaps the crew each having a general piece of clothing the same then that would be ok, easy for Captains to determine who's who if the names get screwed.
-
So, it looks like that idea is out.
-
For an "occasion", potentially a very good idea. Esp. if the skinnable item is one only members who are given it can upload. So everybody with a red hat could be one thing...but...if you dont have the tattoo on your shoulder....and that tat is something you dont see in public, so copying it is extremely unlikely...
For special occasions, a "uniform" item could indeed be good. Though, my thoughts are those would be truly special and rare occasions.
For day-to-day, mandatory...nah. Esp if Im going to try and be a spy.
In fact, I plan to make my RSI as bland as possible. Im hoping there aren't many indicators of who/what you are, unless you start "interacting" with someone.
In otherwords, I don't want a " red-dress in the crowd " because Im a character vs a blue pill.
I don't know if that is how things normally work...but....
Good question, though.
-
Uniforms can be both good and bad....
In Star Wars Galaxies, I lead some very gifted individuals into battle on a nightly basis. Over time we aquired skill, respect and hatred. Our reaction time was unheard of. I had an order placed to create a suit of armor complete with bio enhanced undergarments for my intire guild. Sent out an Email and when the day came and people arrived they where astonished that a gift like this was ready and waiting for them. They jumped at the chance to wear these most impressive suits.. They all looked the same, and they all had the same attribute enhancing effects. No one cared if they looked like the person next to them, as long as the person next to them was in the same ball-crushing neck breaking suit.
Now, in the matrix uniforms don't really have a place to fit in... I could see us in the future getting like a "Dress Suit" used soley for Faction events and or Meetings. But beside that no real purpose.... I dunno. Be nice to have in the inventory I guess, but I woulndn' be wearing it all day.
-
Core, those numbers don't show a standoff. The counter-rproductive means that tey're seeing it as a no.
It's not a standoff now but when I posted that it was.
-
Counter-productive. Your clothing will hold protective code, etc. Having a uniform strips you of said protection. Sorry, Lothori, I think that's a bad idea, but not only for that reason. I love fighting dirty. Stay in civilian clothing and you can run a guerilla war. Ambushes and such. Those are the two main reasons I'm against temporary uniforms. The latter is one of the reasons I'm against uniforms in general.
-
It would be good if they introduced a /showtattoo emote then you could ask that person to proove they are with the FA.
-
Just thought of another problem. There is no system where you can upload special tattoo's,badges, or anything. What would be stopping non-fa from just copying our uniforms?
Probably the fact that they won't have the words "Furious Angels" above their heads.
But it seems that not everyone would wear them, but if people were worried about us sticking out, then why not just wear them at a faction war? People will already know who we are, and if everyone was wearing the same clothes then it would make us look a lot more intimidating, that is if were not wearing pink.
Oh and TenBit spys have to ability to look like NPCs anyway and can then change back their clothes to what they were wearing before.
-
Dude, the only color uniform I would wear is pink. Fuck black or green. go pink!
-
I like Aaura's idea.
We should have some kind of "secret handshake" for FAs only. Something that could be used to confirm that someone is a FA. Something like a word, a number, a symbol, whatever.
-
I'm sure that won't be needed. We will probably have a tag or some info window to read what faction you are in, if perhaps only visible to faction members.
-
Roleplay purposes, bud. ;) I think the best way to question someone's identity would be have a tattoo hidden somewhere. When trying to figure it out, you lead them to a locked building with a group of Angels. Form a circle armed around the individual. Say something cryptic involving stripping clothing (Bare thy soul or summat). Check for the tattoo. Not there? That's why you're armed in a locked building =)
-
Interesting idea but I think that might be too much hassle, it would surely be simpler to have a phrase something, like, I like my eggs boiled. Looks completely innocent to others but it would have a different meaning to us.
-
Phrases are good.
I just watched the Dev interview on Gamespot. Tattoos WILL be available, however you will also be able to change them! So, permanent angel tattoos are a no go. We can stell grab a tattoo, though. Maybe an angel and one other that's changed on a weekly basis =D
-
Interchangable tattoos huh?
I reckon changing tattoos every week would be too much hassle...
I think the best idea is to have a 'secret phrase' and then a uniform of some sort to wear o meetings/battles etc.
-
Sounds good.
Lazy bum...
>.> ^_-
-
If you could have small pieces of clothing like a ring or a wristband or somthing, I think it'd be cool if we all had the same one, and keep it a secret of course.
-
Like a secret decoder ring?
Cool!
-
None of this could be kept secret. Some people do get kicked, and some of those people can get ticked off alot by being kicked. There are very good chances they'd be like hey look I was in the Furious Angels and every member was given this special item to wear so they could identify eachother.
When the game comes out, we should just seewhat clothing they got, and have a few members just fiddle with things and see if they can put something together that looks good and is approved by tbone. Then if some clothing does get approved, we can make it an official FA uniform and optional to wear.If you want one, ask for one, but don't ask if you never will wear it.
-

I totally agree with this statement. But the cool factor is too great to not do as Lothori suggested and have a uniform for Brawling. i.e. The drooges Uniforms from Clockwork Orange. Imagine 20 of us walking down the street to Brawl all dressed like them....
-
Mm... true... sounds good. ^-^
So how about we outfit our soldiers with said uniforms? Spies take the guerilla route, bringing a knife to a gun fight along with their civvies.

I do indeed like this idea. Let's see what we've got once we get inside the game, that way we'll know what might be a good or bad idea.
Right now, we're speculating on what might we be able to do. One thing we do know is that we'll be able to change our appearance even after we've created a character. I think it would just be easier to decide these things in-game.
(FYI: This is my 51st post. I am now a freed mind! Yay me!)
