Well, I'm very late to this topic but have been dealing with similar issues myself.

My computer has been hacked twice in the last six months. The first time I downloaded some software from a new source that I didn't vet ahead of time. Turn out it installed a RaT on my PC (remote access). The hacker waiting a few weeks waiting for the right time to take over. When they did, I was away at rehearsal. My Google messages was connected to my PC, so they were able to use that for 2FA to connect my credit card to their device. Luckily I got a notification about the 2FA and ran out of rehearsal and went through a 24 hour process of locking everything down, including having my girlfriend unplug my PC ASAP. They had stolen all my Chrome credentials (passswords, etc.)

The second time was recently via Discord. Someone who I worked with briefly with a startup company DMed me about trying an indie game their sister made and leaving a review for her birthday. It sounded sus, so I used VirusTotal to scan it and it came back clean. Well...it turns out the virus was so new it just wasn't reported yet. That gave me a false sense of security. The virus tried to steal my credentials (luckily I had that locked down, so they only got some old Microsoft Edge passwords). The hacker hijacked my Discord, deleted my server list, friend list, and DM list and DMed me to try and blackmail me to get my stuff back. I couldn't believe I had gotten hacked again...

So anyway, here are the steps I'm taking...

1. Don't use a common browser. I'm using Perplexity's Comet now as most viruses don't know to look for that.

2. Never leave your PC unlocked if unattended. I have it set to auto-lock now when my phone leaves my office. I'm setting up biometrics to unlock my PC.

3. Use an encrypted password manager for passwords. I'm setting up Bitwarden now. I'm setting it up to use biometrics to avoid a keylogger getting my master password.

4. Set up 2FA with authenticator app or hardware key. I'm using an app at the moment, as a hardware key seems overkill for me. Obviously have your reset key written down and hidden somewhere (I lost another Discord account when I didn't do that). Don't use texts for 2FA and have a pass/biometric lock on your 2FA account as well.

5. Set up notifications for any bank/credit card transactions. Early warnings can help you lock down things fast.

6. Scan and double scan everything. Unless it's from a reputable site, scan anything before you open it. Looking back at VirusTotal, I should have gone to the "behavior" tab and then I would have seen the suspicious behavior the file was doing. Use AI to check the results and it can tell if you if you should avoid the file.

7. Ask AI to help. AI is getting pretty good at being helpful at things like this. The second time I was hacked, I used AI to help me analyze my traffic to make sure I didn't have a RaT, to completely eliminate the virus, to do multiple scans, etc. It might be worth it to just ask AI to walk you through all the steps to make sure you don't have malicious software already hiding on your computer.

8. But don't give AI access to your PC. This is more future-proofing, but AI will absolutely be used as an exploit for future hackers. I'm already worried about Perplexity's Comet browser backfiring in that way. Prompt injections are becoming popular and can really screw you over quick if you give AI too much access.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck! It's a nightmare...

If I had a kid at the same time I started this guild (at age 19), that kid would be turning 23? I'm glad I didn't have a kid...

Yeah, I've mostly been lurking Discord and haven't checked this site as much. I'm looking for work starting in June if anyone has leads...

My 3080 is still doing pretty well. The next upgrade I may look at would be the 5000 series, but it just depends on what Nvidia has to offer. I'm curious how AI may affect future upgrades...

The fact that someone else is writing/directing makes me a little more hopeful that it will be a fresh story inside the Matrix universe. I can't imagine them wanting to keep going the Resurrections direction...

I would love for the franchise to get rebooted properly and encourage more Matrix games and content to be made.

I will check out Pop: One.  Should I be searching for that on Steam, or the Meta marketplace?
It's free to play and cross-platform, so it comes down to your preference. If you plan on playing on standalone occasionally, I would recommend getting it on the Meta platform since your profile will persist between PCVR and standalone. I think your Steam profile would count as a different account.

I got it on the Meta platform since at the time it was cross-buy. Broin and Lithium got it on Steam.

Jeyk, the cable I linked is the one I use. I like it because it also connects to a wall charger and, therefore, keeps my headset charged during play. Using other cables the headset's battery will slowly drain. I have noticed I get audio crackling if I go above 500 bitrate, which MAY have to do with the cable but may not. I'm still troubleshooting that one. Here's an article if you wanna do some research: https://www.androidcentral.com/best-link-cable-alternative-oculus-quest-2

Lithium, Air Link will initially boot you into Meta's PCVR software and then you can load up SteamVR from there no problem. If you want to bypass Meta's software altogether, you'll need to buy Virtual Desktop on the Quest and then download the streamer software on your computer. Using that method you can boot up SteamVR without having to go into Meta's stuff first. Either way I've had no issues running SteamVR once connected.

My current contract ends Sunday. We'll have to start up some Pop: One again to test the new systems!

So I nabbed a Meta Quest 3 today, but was disappointed to see that I can’t access all the games I bought on the Rift, with the exception of Climb, which has “Cross Buy”.

Is there any way I’ll be able to play my old Oculus library with this thing?  I’ve read that I may be able to with a link cable on my PC, but not entirely sure as it seems that what I’ve read refers to the Quest 2 - I figured you (or someone here in a similar jam) would have the skinny on this.
Yes, it's pretty easy to play all your Oculus library on the Quest 3. You have three options.

1. Link Cable. Personally this is what I use. The charging cable that comes with your headset is NOT a link cable, unfortunately. I use a third-party cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B2QPSWSF/ . Plug it into USB 3 and your Oculus software should find the headset and get it set up for you. You connect via the Link interface on the Quest 3. Using this method you can really crank up the resolution and bitrate and get really high fidelity PCVR.

2. Air Link. Some people swear by wireless, so this is another option. The recommendation is to have a dedicated router for the Quest. You'll plug the router into your computer and then have the headset line of sight to the router. The better the router, the smoother your connection (6E is currently the top dog here). Personally I can tell a big difference in compression artifacts when using wireless over air, but it keeps getting better and better.

3. Virtual Desktop. Same setup as Air Link but using bought custom software to have more options and bypass Oculus' interface. Again, I just plug in with a cable so I can't really compare, but it's an option.

I use my Quest Pro mostly for PCVR. If you end up buying more standalone games, I recommend getting Quest Games Optimizer as it has profiles for each game that will greatly increase the fidelity/performance, especially with the extra headroom on the Quest 3. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Have you picked up the Meta Quest 3, T?
No, it's pretty comparable to the Quest Pro. Most who have tried both said that it's a side-grade and that, especially for PCVR, it's not worth it to upgrade. People only recommend switching from the Pro to Quest 3 if you mostly do stand-alone gaming since the Quest 3 has a better processor for that.
