Never been to a DefCon unfortunately, but I definitely remember those old meetings. I wish I had my redbox, even though they're obsolete now, I had made mine inside of a plastic 35mm film canister.

FACT: On the digital payphones that have the credit card reader (also known as "Millennium Payphones") , the dial tone you hear when you pick one up is just a recording being played by the phone itself. The phone isn't technically "on" until you actually insert money.
This was done as a means to combat the various boxes used by the phreaking community.
I made a beige box in high school that I still have. I keep it in my backpack whenever I go out of town in case of an emergency. Amazingly enough it's never been questioned by the TSA.
That's funny, I made a blue box and a red box when I was in high school, though I only carried them with me when some friends and I would go to 2600 meetings. God that was sooo long ago.

Never knew this was where some of the background music in our recruitment challenge came from.
Yeah I love the movie Sunshine, it is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. Great soundtrack and when matched with the visual style of the movie I just couldn't get enough. Only one of a handful of movies that after seeing it for the first time I sat through and saw it again. When I helped make the challenge I took tons of samples from the soundtrack, several of which made the final cut (mouse-over on the star, our recruitment site background music, and even the music playing in the opening movie to our swtor recruitment site).

It would be nice to see DC, hang out with the old gang and do another bar crawl. I'm definitely interested.

Pretty stoked. The local Regal is playing the Matrix later this month. I didn't get the see the original in theaters all those years ago.
CineMark theaters are doing it as well.

Damn you Cinemark for not having a single theater in NC.

My only question is what does Manic think about all of this?
