Quick PS help
« on: April 17, 2008, 12:55:01 pm »
So I have a friend who's going to be in the NFL draft next weekend. I'm trying to make this poster for him where I took 32 pictures of him, and in each I change his uniform to another NFL team's. I could use someone to at least touch it up for me when I'm done if they have time. The catch is I want it done for this saturday, and I only have 1/4 of the pics done...I can post where I stand so far for you to get an idea. Let me know if you can help...PLEASE

I don't know enough about football to know what all the uniforms look like, but try this...

Add a new layer over each photo, so you'll have 64 layers.  Set each new layer (the blank ones, not his pictures) to "Overlay" mode and use the paintbrush to paint over his uniform in each photo.  With so many layers it might be tricky to coordinate which "Paint layer" goes with which "Photo layer".

Since you'll be using one color to paint over another, the colors will mix and get a little wonky.  I know there's a way to "paint" his uniform into black and white while leaving the rest of the photo in color, but I can't think of how to do it off the top of my head.  But if you can remove the color from his uniform in the photo, that will make it all the easier to paint over it in the new layer.

Did that make any sense at all?

Yeah. Can you maintain shades that way though?

What I really need is someone who can add a little realism to the parts I paint such as the packers, giants, and browns helmets in that picture. Someone who can add a little reflection to it to make it realistic, you do that all the time.  Any ideas?

Setting the new layers to "Overlay" mode will help the uniforms maintain their shading as you paint over them.

As for adding the various team logos, those will need to be on new layers all their own.  It will be easier if you can find relatively large images of the logos, so when you shrink them down and re-align them over the photos there's less loss of data in the image.  As for reflections and whatnot, sometimes using white paint with a "soft" brush can give something a reflective look.  Especially on something smooth and spherical like a helmet.

Yea I think I have everything down pretty solid, except for ridding some of the minor red shading do to his original uniform being red. I just need to make the helmets that i drew (ie packers, giants, and browns all in the bottom right corner) look more real.
