The Elder Scrolls ONLINE!

Hey guys, I saw an ad on Reddit for signups for TES Online and I wanted to share with you guys. The sign-up includes a guild name, so if they notice our guild is signing up for it, we'll be able to get into it! I won't sign up with the guild's name w/o permission though.

I signed up. I looked at a gameplay trailer for this the other day and, honestly, I wasn't impressed. It looks less like Skyrim where your friends can join  you and more like WoW with horn helmets (which WoW probably already has). I think I read somewhere that it's not even the same dev team making it that make the Elder Scrolls games.

I would say the graphics are pretty compared to WoW, but that being said again a severely older graphic style game. (Even if they have updated textures over the years).

Really though, in the end, this is just another EQ, WoW, TOR etc game. Just a different skinned game with it's own lore. If you are a fanatic, I imagine you will check it out.

I signed up as well, though I'm honestly not expecting much out of it.  I adore the Elder Scrolls and lose nothing by signing up, so why not?

I'm not too enthusiastic about seeing cool locations in the Elder Scroll series be dumbed down into MMO graphics and mechanics either.

Wow, if you guys aren't interested don't sign up for the beta and fuck up my game then.
I like the way its going.  Its reminding me more of Oblivion than Skyrim, but the graphics are looking good especially for an unpolished alpha.

I have more hope for ESO than SWTOR in any form.

There is irony in that one of the big gripes about SWTOR was that it was ruining the KOTOR series and wasn't really a KOTOR game. That being said, the KOTOR games were, what, 10-15 years old. SWTOR was still a huge leap forward compared to the original KOTOR games.

The problem with ESO is that it's going to be compared to Skyrim, and it looks like it's going to be a giant leap backwards in all categories compared to that game.

Just because you're pessimistic about a game doesn't mean you shouldn't sign up for Beta. If all they had were fanboys who wanted to play the game early, the game would come out and bomb for everyone except for that small, niche demographic. It'll do them good to hear people saying "hey, you realize this game is going to be compared to SKYRIM, right?" and maybe, just maybe, the game will be better because of it.

In terms of having more hope for ESO - they'd have to make a radical announcement of something new and innovative for me to have any hope for it. As an Elder Scrolls fan AND an MMO fan, I'M having trouble finding something good to say about the game.

Most people are going to be looking for Skyrim Online. Hell, I'm looking for Skyrim Online. This does not look close to Skyrim Online...but, it could surprise me! The videos I've seen look like landscapes and classes that could be in ANY MMO. As a matter of fact, if you showed me the in game footage and took out all the audio and video referencing Elder Scrolls, I would never guess that it's an online version of Elder Scrolls.

It just doesn't look like they're doing anything particularly new or interesting.  Like I said, a class-based, instanced, fantasy themepark.  Gee... how ambitious.  At this point it seems like they're taking the absolute safest route possible in terms of gameplay, and banking on the success of the "Elder Scrolls" name.  Bioware did the same thing, and now gameplay updates come in second behind cash shop updates.

Show me something about the game that isn't what everyone else is already doing.  Show me something about the game that isn't already on offer.  Show me something about the game that shows they are making just a little effort to push the MMO genre forward.  Then I'll be interested.
