You can simply put an OS detect and redirect to a static page saying they need to view the page on a PC.  Less annoying than it being broken.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but you aren't being constructive. As far as I can see, the only issue we have is with compatibility, and that isn't a problem inherit with Flash (unless you are using an iPhone/iPad where they block it), which means there's just something with our code that we need to fix.

I'm not asking you to drink the "FA Kool-aid". I'm just saying that if you are going to criticize the hard work of others, constructive criticism is going to be a lot more helpful and go a longer way than just knocking it down.

Quote from: "Enoch"
I think the solution for maximum compatibility might be to ditch the Flash site. Flash is dying anyway.

Not constructive.

Quote from: "Enoch"
why are we using Flash?

Still not constructive, but we get that you don't like flash.

Quote from: "Enoch"
However, I'm assuming nobody knows Javascript, PHP, mySQL, and advanced HTML

Again, not constructive. There it sounds like you are implying we're so ignorant with coding that we chose Flash because we don't even know HTML.

All of my coders and developers are busy working on the challenge (which is different than this site), and we're on a tight deadline, so I don't want to pull them off project to go back to this at the moment. We need to keep our priorities straight and keep our tasks manageable. Ditching Flash for the site and certainly for the challenge would delay the whole thing at least months, if not inevitably. Not to mention it should certainly be easier just to find the Mac compatibility solution.

I know you didn't mean offense, but you sounded like a nay-sayer. It's like if I brought everybody apples and you looked at it and said "why an apple? it's not as healthy as you think" instead of saying "oh, you know what would go good with apples - I have this cool recipe for apple pie."

I want criticism that takes our apples to apple pie. I don't want to feel like someone wants to throw away my apple that I hand-picked for hours and tell me to go get an orange instead because they prefer the smell or look of them.

Currently that's what we have - or had, I believe. It redirects you to followtheangel.org if you are using a Mac or iPhone.

It must have been taken off, because I wasn't re-directed.

I'm trying Safari on my PC.

Using Google Chrome, when I go to the site the angel appears for just an instance and then goes black. It is black for a while and then the movie plays.

Using Safari, the angel remains on screen and the movie does not play (I've been waiting for over a minute...on Chrome it just takes a few seconds, so I assume it isn't even starting to buffer or load).

The rest of the site, however, works just fine on Safari for PC.

Edit: Ok, I just tried on Chrome and it is now just showing me the angel and is not playing the movie. It doesn't even look like there is any data being transferred. Lithium, did you disable the splash video? Anyway, site works the same on Safari as it is on everything else, so it must be with Mac's version of Flash and not just Safari.

Edit again: Well, this is interesting. I just looked at it on IE and the movie still won't load, but even worse, the angel that is in its place is all pixelated and jagged. Strange.

Ok, Lith said he probably did something during his tests, so the video load should be fixed soon.

I tested out the site,  I dont have a mac but when I went to the link it took about a minute for it to load on my pc.  I almost gave up.   However when it started I was like wow this is awsome. really made me proud to be an Angel fighting for the Light.  I only wish it was longer, I was really getting into it.  Everything seemed to work, except when I tried to ascend it said I wasnt ready :(

Thanks for your response Tbone. Sorry for being a naysayer. I really do appreciate the work being put into the challenge (even though I don't really know what it looks like ;P). I know programming is a bitch. My complains are with Adobe and Apple for making Flash so incompatible with Macs.

I really do hope you guys find a solution, because the largest possible audience should see the hard work being put in. My intentions were only to start a dialogue, even if I didn't have the answers. That's just the way I work. I think it's a result of my filmmaking background.

To use your example, let's say we're selling our apple pies. If there's a group that's allergic to apples, maybe there's a different pie we can sell them that tastes as delicious, even if we can't use the apple you spent time picking.

Again, that's my filmmaking background. When a screenplay and an edit goes through a million drafts, you learn that sometimes you need to throw away great ideas if it doesn't fit the movie as a whole. We call it "killing our babies". However, I do understand though that in web development, sometimes it isn't the most prudent way to go about things, especially after so much work has already been invested.

Godspeed to those working on the challenge. I really wish I had the knowledge to help you out.

Yeah, at the very least we need a loading bar so you know something is actually loading. I'm not sure why it takes so long, though. I guess we need to try and compress the video more...

I need a Mac user to test out this version. It was independently published so the fonts are not correct. However, I'd like to see if the animations work.

No luck. When you click a button, nothing happens and they become unclickable

See if this link is helpful: http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=94149

Modify the HTML page.

The easiest fix is to specify AllowScriptAccess="always" in the HTML page, as in this example:

Code: [Select]
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase=" http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="550" height="400" align="middle">

<param name="movie" value="http://otherdomain.com/exampleContent.swf">

<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">

<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" width="550" height="400" align="middle" src="http://otherdomain.com/exampleContent.swf" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed>

</object>

Code: [Select]
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">

allowScriptAccess="always">

Only specify AllowScriptAccess="always" if you trust the SWF file that you are embedding, for example, if you are the author of the SWF file or if you believe that the author of the SWF file is trustworthy. Be aware that specifying AllowScriptAccess="always" has other effects beyond permitting getURL and navigateToURL to renavigate a window or frame. It also permits the SWF file to execute JavaScript code in the context of your HTML page or frame.

Well, we tried the code I posted above with no luck, I guess (I assume Lithium added it).

The problem we are having is with the links within Flash. Everything else loads up fine, but when a link is clicked, the animation doesn't occur and so you just get stuck. Has anyone tried using IE on a Mac to see if that changes anything?

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the browser. It's an incompatibility with Mac. We need adad or someone with the flash studio Mac to make themselves available for half an hour on TS so we can see what error comes up in the debug console.
