Challenge Final Beta Testing (updated 10/21)
« on: October 12, 2010, 12:04:17 am »
The other thread was getting long, so I thought I'd make a new one. We are down to final testing, with just a few bugs to still iron out. Please please please test all of the functions and give feedback!

The FA Challenge (updated 10/21)(check below for known bugs)

Part 1 - The Ship

Features missing

-Need white flash or some other masking animation during Iego reveal (look at post-release)
-For galaxy viewer, perhaps add a message on the console when you try to click when it is the wrong time that reads "Cannot verify jump coordinates. Destination is not accepting traffic at this time."

Bugs
No known bugs!

Part 2 - The Holoroom

Bugs

-Application's TS and Referred By fields submit "Yes" even if "No" is selected (need someone to look at php script)
-"Enter" no longer submits text input. It will probably remain this way, as you can still click. (look at post-release)

To-do Before Release

-Optimize splash page so that it always plays (saving for post release)

Lightspeed video has now been embedded (looks to have solved the delay issue)
All audio is uploaded.

Still need to connect the two parts.

Audio for yours works now (though I still can't get it working on followthesignal)

Some bugs I am experiencing:

-The "## New Transmission ##", the second ## is sitting below the rest of that line, clipping a border into the console (tested this on IE, chrome, and firefox)
-This may have to do with the above clipping issue, but the first time I played it, the newsreport graphic blinked in and out of existence, mostly staying invisible.
-The ship engine hum continues through the end (it should stop once the moons are revealed)

Nice job guys, really nice work indeed...  it all  worked for me except the moon video did not load, all the other videos loaded and were perfectly timed.

Adad, the Iego video is not loading again (on your server). The other videos are working. Both Ana and I experienced it. I swear it was working last night, though...hmm...

It makes no sense, especially because that is a published state, but I've noticed for seemingly no reason that video keeps changing its own settings in Flash, again I know it makes no sense. There are 2 options when you import, FLV Playback and Embedded (which is what we want). It keeps switching itself back to FLV. I fully reimported it and it's working now. if you don't want to delete your cache, try  http://jwnettesheim.startlogic.com/FASWTORChallenge/Phase4BetaEmbedded3.html

if this one randomly stops working after a while too, then more research will be done.

We've fixed the issue with Yotogi's half getting stuck on followthesignal and we think the fix we found might get Adad's working as well. So for now, you can go to followthesignal.net to test Yotogi's. Should work.

And Adad, so for the Iego video IS working now.

Just a couple of things that I think might be good for the challenge.

The Moon puzzle screen that pulls up should probably pull up at the same speed that the rotating galaxy screen pulls up.  It seems that the Moon puzzle screen pulls up a bit to abruptly.

Secondly I think when the moons or Iego are revealed we need to have something a bit more.  I like the fade in reveal but I think it definatley needs something more.  Maybe a quick bright flinding flash like your ship has just been hit with some sort of energy field then the reveal.

I keep thinking back to a star trek episode that I watched where the ship took a big energy hit and then was spun about a bit and then stopped and a ship or something de-cloacked in front of it.

Go ahead, make my day.

I'm working on adding some more animations and fanfaire between the end of the moon puzzle and the Iego reveal.  You're right, it does need something more but I think I can accomplish it without the blinding light effect.

Ok, just making sure Saint. Yes, in order to avoid buffering while playing, we're currently loading everything on the front end. One of the things we are going to look at is the best way to do that.

A quick update...

We've run into a pretty serious problem that has us hitting a brick wall with getting the challenge ready. It's kind of a two part problem.

The first problem is that Adad's half (Part 2), will not load properly on our server (followthesignal.net and the other domains). It loads correctly when Adad uploads it to his server (startlogic), and it works locally. When on our server, the loading bar gets screwy and stays bugged at 0% on IE and Chrome. On Firefox, the loading bar is screwy, but it is screwy at 100% and actually loads up and plays.

The only difference we've been able to pinpoint is that our server is Linux-based, and Linux can be fickle with code. We've made sure there are no spaces and lowercased everything, but still no luck. We've had different people try the upload, in case it was the files on just one person's machine, but no luck. We've tried getting rid of the preloader with no luck.

The other part of this issue is that Adad's half also refuses to load when being called from Yotogi's half. In other words, when we try to glue both of them together, we get errors. It's basically a bunch of "variable is not defined" errors, for what it's worth. It's unclear whether this is the same reason it won't play on our server or if these are two different issues.

Our hope is that if we can get it to call from Yotogi's script, then it will work on our server as well. Adad is busy rewriting his code to get rid of these errors, but there are a lot (I believe it had to do with how he was preloading EVERYTHING). Hopefully he'll get this done sometime tonight and we can test and see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't, we may be looking at another week's delay while we solve these bugs that popped up last minute.
