Is that one of those scary robotic drawing machines, like the ones they used to have in Clintons?  They always looked very dangerous.

No, CAD is Computer Aided Drafting.

It's a software program similar to 3d modelling (Maya, 3d Studio MAX, Lightwave, Mirai, etc), except it's specially designed for designing, within a 3d virtual space, architectural designs.

However, usually the CAD program can integrate with a "robotic drawing machine", yes.
