Another thing about ram (and most everything else heh) is overclocking....

I dont know how much my Dell Dimension can take its the 4600 model 512mb of RAM

Since it's a Dell it probably has no room for any expansion.. so you are probably stuck at 512 mb of ram. Kidding, you'd have to go to their webpage and have them tell you that
