Alienware Curved Monitor
« on: January 08, 2008, 05:37:55 pm »
For the monitor guru...

Video Link:
http://gizmodo.com/341413/alienware-curved-monitor-looks-like-its-from-another-planet

Quote from the article:
sharp screens of DLP goodness. Lit by LEDs, this 2880x900 monster is well over three feet wide and is said to have an other-worldly .02ms (we think!)

When they previewed it on G4 they are expecting a price tag of about 2500.00, but it has not been determined...

I did not see a post on it yet, but if there is one sorry for the repost

Ehh, it's not bad but I would have hoped for a thinner display.

Too much money, and no practical uses.

For $2500, I'd just buy a huge LCD HDTV.  Who needs a curved monitor?

well a curved monitor that actually wrapped around you at 90* would be nice.  If there was a gaming application that would work with it.. Imagine playing crysis or call of duty where you could actually look out of the corner of your eye and see an enemy to your left or to your right.  You could actually turn your head and see whats beside your charactor as if you were turning his head.... that would be awesome.  Maybe in a few more years :)

But like I said, there aren't any practical uses.  You could use it for gaming, and only gaming.  Who wants a curved computer desktop?  Who wants to watch television on a curved monitor?  And I can only imagine what harmful effects it will have on gamers' eyes.  You know how close you'd have to sit to that thing to get a true "surround" feeling?
