I had composed a entire message, but somehow it did not go through, and I do not feel like re-writing it so...I'll just skip to the gist of it.

Chris Reeves was not like any other parapalegic. He fought, which when most are faced with such abysses full of hopelessness give up. He did not. he gave hope to others. We need to stop diminishing those that give hope to others. Why spoil their reputation with so obviously thought out claims such as "he never cared about paralysed people until he was paralysed." The gist of my point on the beforehand written post was why would you even care if he was still doing good things for people, for almost a decade. It makes no sense to downgrade him just because you feel he isn't "worthy" of his apparent celebrity because "you think" he didn't care. But he cares *now*, which is the point. And what you are stating isn't the point.

I agree mostly with Gilette, but not with the whole 'fuck yous' and 'you look like an ass.' Although I can understand the heartfelt sentiment behind those comments.

Oro, I'm not angry at you, just disappointed, which may or may not mean anything to you.

This topic really needs to be defused before we start getting big rifts between members. I accept what you are trying to say Oronos, sure, he got publicity just because he was superman, but he did something with that publicity, and that is what counts. Who really gives a crap if he wasn't such a nice guy, the ends pretty much always justify the means. You could probably say that his disability was god sent to show him what it is like when you arn't superman, but hell, it worked, he has done more than he needed to, and when people go that extra mile they don't need people's respect, cause they did it.

Well, people can have their opinions or whatever they choose.  I can't stop them or tell them what they think.  After all we are individuals and everybody is different.

Chris was an individual himself and I'm sure he maybe had a different veiw on the whole thing himself.  The point is that he is dead now and I pay my respects to him as an individual.

I'm not gonna say what I think cos I don't wanna take sides (even though I do have a strong opinion on this matter) and I think perhaps this thread's had a bit more attitude than I think is helpful for the faction as a whole.  I believe in freedom of speech and I believe in respecting other people's opinions.

I think despite these two rights, the topic needs to be locked before, as Ajax said so well, "big rifts" are made in the faction.  I hope they aren't gonna get any bigger cos, well, that would be silly, and the majority of the people in the FA aren't in it to debate on matters of fragility, but to play and discuss MxO.

I'm with Ajax, let's lock the topic.

Why lock it, isn't that only further surpressing us?  I think any form of relationship needs good arguements, no-one lives in perfect harmony.  A simple arguement isn't going to split the faction, trust me we have had worse than this before.  To be honest, it is my opinion, you don't have to agree although I know some who do.  If you disagree I am actually pleased as long as I get a decent arguement from it, not just "Shut up man."  So please, I encourage you to speak your opinion and not just be a sheep, there is nothing worse.

I think people are seeing this wrongly. Just because people are arguing about a topic doesn't mean enormous chasms of rage are going to split the clan into two hostile sections...

Or you could just stop bumping it...

Anywho. There aren't going to be any rifts. I think that Oronos has clarified his position quite well, and had he written that in the first place, I never would have said anything. :D

At the same time, had it not been Oronos that said it in the first place, I probably wouldn't have said anything either. I know he can take some criticism without losing his mind unlike a lot of other people. I disagreed. Other people agree or disagree as they wish. Just because I think that someone is wrong about one thing doesn't mean that I still don't like and respect that person or that I think that they are suddenly wrong about everything.

Anyone who judges anyone else based on a single opinion that the other person holds is an idiot. Period. If we can't have an argument over something and then shake hands - whether we agree or just agree to disagree - then we all have a lot more growing up to do.

Further, it's in the off-topic forum for a reason. That's part of the reason I split it in the first place was to move it away from MxO related (however loosely) discussion. So no. I'm not going to lock the thread. Someone else wants to, that's their business. However if it does degenerate into something like:

You're a big stupid head!

Nuh uh! You're the big stupid head!

...then I'll lock it. :)

Man, I never thought just mentioning the fact that Christopher Reeves had died would spawn this.  Although I suppose it was coming anyway because if I hadn't mentioned him someone else probably would have.

lol, damn people are passionate.
I guess the fact he was disabled in this way touched a few raw nerves.

Strange that. I've seen various threads about Nick Berg, for example, but no one was as passionate about that. Not that I'm comparing... its just nice to see it.

When I watched Superman all those years ago, it did captivate me. Reeve got success from that part, no duobt. What he did when he was crippled was a good thing, no doubt.

I just want to point out that if you regard some one as an asshole, you probably still regarded him as an asshole even after he is dead. I didn't regard him as an asshole really, but i did enjoy the South Park episode relating to stem cells.

...and the issue of Stem Cells vs Reeve gave a lot of people the opinion that he was an asshole.

Apologies if it looks like I'm stirring. I thought I would add my 2 on this, helpful or otherwise.

RIP, to all who have passed.

I'm a total frickin rock star from mars.
C'mon bro, I got tiger blood.

When I said 'rifts', I was merely trying to remind everyone of a certain person who created a rift between himself and almost the entire clan just through his unnecessarily long rants about not much. And so I will just say that sure, active debates are healthy, just lets not have huge arguments.

Agreed Ajax. Things can blow way out of proportion too easily. Debates get heated easily, who remembers the Walmart flame war?

Woah!...
I totally misread this whole thread!
I thought you guys were at each others throats back there... it shows when I get my headset and then teamspeak, I should get to know a few people a bit better.
I'm actually really impressed that you (Oronos and Gillette in particular) didn't think it was so serious you could fall out about it.
I'm sorry guys...
Look forward to speaking to you soon!

edit: PS: Hey, Ajax, wherebouts in Hants you live? I live in Surrey!
