Me and some friends on recursion developed a little method that gets the top drop virtually every time (7 for 7 on my last trip).

Take a team of 3 down to the dungeon, 1 high-level UM with recall, 1 high level debuffer, and one MA 7-10 levels or so below the level of the dungeon boss. Have the one with recall run to the bottom of the dungeon, then recall the party to the teleporter room. Once the dungeon boss and entourage spawn, have the low-level MA leave the party and wait in the teleporter room while the other 2 kill all but the boss. Then have the buffer buff the MA to bejeesus and back, and then have the debuffer work his magic on the boss, and finally let the MA beat the boss up, with the UM and debuffer refreshing their effects as necessary until victory is achieved. Since the MA did the majority of the damage to the boss (debuffs don't deal damage of course) he gets credit for the kill, and the drop is based on his level (being well below that of the boss, you will almost always get the best drop).
