Ok guys, we all hate them and they fuck up our systems (excuse my french).  I am here to tell you about a few programs that can get rid of or tell you how to remove these pesky little bastards.  Don't think that because you don't know about them means that you don't have them, because it doesn't.  Here are a couple of programs that can help you get rid of them.

AVG Control Centre: This scans pretty much everything, and I think it is free.  Most likely to be worth having.

Spybot Search and Destroy:  This is very useful and gets all the stuff AVG doesn't.  But I recommend having both.

Bazooka Spyware:  This just tells you what else you have and how to get rid of it, usually it involves going into regedit, but you can do it with Add/Remove program on control panel sometimes.

These are the few I find useful, and today I have spent about three hours deleting crap that has been messing up my system.

I still however have a problem, well two actually.  And here they are;

1.  I have a blue search bar on my Internet browser, this I have tried for ages to get rid of and it just wont go away.  Is there anyone who can help.  It is related to the My Search now catagory.

2.  For some odd reason my adress bar has gone missing, which means that I have to go to Google and search for the site I want before I can get there.  I think this is not a virus and probably just some fault of mine that can be fixed easily.

If anyone has any info then please help out.

Oh, My search now...I'm positive I've had that one before..

I think I got it through msn messenger plus, which if you don't uncheck sponsorship program during installation you get spyware. If you got it through msn plus it should be as easy as removing plus..

To clean my computer of viruses and spyware I use AVG Antivirus, SpyBot Search and Destroy and AdAware. Just the free versions of course, but they work :).

when u open internet explorer or wahtever u have, go to VIEW, then TOOLBARS, then u should see Address Bar, it shouldn't be selected, so select it and it should come back.

Right click in the buttons and stuff area, a box should appear, a list should appear including address bar, clicking address bar should bring up your address bar and place a check beside it in the list.

most of that stuff is from either lots of free sponsored downloads (aim, msn and the likes) and from active X on websites that install some stuff with out ur knowledge of it...(*not all just some actually*) u just really gotta watch what u download make sure u got a nice neat firewall to keep the spyware from opening ports and sending pop ups and keep using Lavasoft ad aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) and the other programs mentioned above... for firewalls a nice free one would be zonealarm i think... i used to use that one besides a free firewall is better than no firewall.

I use the free version of Zonealarm, and it has worked fine so far...

Use Opera, and you won't have to worry about Active X :).

For a really good deep down scrub, get Hijack This, and use a security forum to find out what to do next www.wilderssecurity.com is a good one.
It makes a log of every program running so you can find out the bad ones that evade the search programs.
I ran a free online virus check, AdAware, CWShredder, Spybot: S & D, and Stinger.
I still had about half a dozen files to delete, one of em was the my search thing.

Yes, FireFox is the greatest thing ever to happen to internet browsing. Everything by Mozzila rocks.

Ive got AdAware and Opera mainly. Since I only have 56k, I dont have to worry about viruses as much as you broadband users. That will change, once I get a cable running into my house!!!!!!111111!!!!!!!11111!!!!!!!!

Whenever that frickin happens.

I'm about to get adsl, I've been on modem for ages and have only adaware and norton antivirus. This thread is useful to me but a little overwhelming. I've bought norton internet security for firewall, but which out of all these should I really get? Opera, zonealarm, firefox, AVG, spybot search and destroy, I'm a little confused...
