Warning ALL non-SP2 users.

Everyone who does not currently have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, will be in for a nasty surprise soon.

Check by right-clicking MY COMPUTER and clicking PROPERTIES.

On the 14th April (I think), any FUTURE updates to Windows will REQUIRE SP2, just as SP1 is now required for any updates.

This is partly due to the fact the way the way configuration files are now setup, with new issues that could affect networking if not updated.

This means that you will HAVE to grab it, and install it.
Those who have had problems previously and uninstalled. should check for any problems on their PC that may be hiding away right now. SP2 should work with no problems on a correctly configured PC.

we all know MicroBalls are crap, but gerenally it should be working. Every PC in the world is almost different, due to hardware revision types/hardware setup/software installed, so its hard to get it 100% right. If it aint working for you, try to find out why now.

In fact, just post onto this thread and I (and others) will help if we can.

yeah, for school here it was required to have at least win98, if you have xp, sp2 is required. to get internet, when you first connect your computer, you have to run this program they give that checks for that and for antivirus. of course they fuck you over in the antivirus area. if you have paid versions of either norton or mcafee, you have to uninstall it completely and install their halfass mcaffee shit. kind of pissed me off, and i wrote them several angry letters about it. i mean, ok, so *i* didn't pay for my version of norton ..... but someone did!! lol! in any case, yeah, i've been required to have sp2 and it sucks, but meh, supposedly the next version of windows, instead of being a babystep progression, is supposed to have advanced severely. we'll just see about that. we're not even going to bring the mac vs pc into this lol :p

Ok well I have a question. My MxO is patching unbearably slow and it takes me almost 2 to 3 days to get one patch done. I'm just wondering if NOT having SP2 is affecting the patch speed at all. If yall know then please tell me....

Maximmus, that should not be affecting you.
The information relates more to business, since its legacy applications that need support.
Time has now run out.

Hopefully these areticles are enough to convince you ;) :

White Paper Download This shows how SP2 changes things, and therefore why ALL updates in the future will require SP2.

As usual tho, they usually complete work on a SP in the year. They don't want to support you on SP1 because that is unsecure.. now.
