Major help...

alright guys its school time once again and im trying to figure out which major to take...unfrotunately most of you guys havn't done it yet or are already done with school, so you dont have to worry about it, well im stick in the middle, so here goes.

I had originally planned to get into Computer Programming, but when learning that i would most likely need to major into something more specific than just "computer programming" it didn't sound like such a good idea.

I had thought about taking "Computer Gaming" sounds like fun and i would be creating, managing...whatever computer games! but as i read through everything, seemed like it was just TOO specific and i couldn't find a job with that degree, i'd be shit out of luck.

One last thing that i was thinking, but hadn't researched yet was Computer Security, seemed pretty cool, lol i'd actually be known as a hacker, instead of uber teh leet yo :) but i havn't researched it yet.

Any tips ya guys can give me or some cool majors ive never heard of or something on subject would be helpful, prefer something with computers obviously. EVERYONE give me their comments, good or bad, i dont care, when ya can't turn to people ya see everyday, you turn to people you trust online :)

Thanx Later

computer science is a good choice. most computer anything degrees will not be too broad, since the more you study, the more money you can make.  my brother is graduating in may with a theoretical computer science degree and a graphic arts minor, and he's already had contacts with NASA and the government .... so that's the place to be right now :)

OR you could be a musician and live a happy life on the street .... that's my plan .... spend six grand on a pretty instrument and then play for people for free hehe ..... oh, wait .... damnit, i need money. donations anyone? :p

Right, I did Software Development.
This gave me a few things:
How to look at any language, and "program" - ie the concepts.
Programming in many new and old languages
Project Management

I am now (five years after finishing) Programmer for C & ITS at a University. I found that the specific targeting of  "software development" helped, it doesn't matter the language, you learn more languages and take the jobs for that you know.

The problem is competition. If you want a great job in  IT market, look for somewhere new that has a shortage of people.. but good luck, they are rare. It is tough in this business.

-edit-

oh, to compliment this, I also did a MSCE (NT), which is more software side rather than CISCO hardware side, which may have helped a little.

I'm a total frickin rock star from mars.
C'mon bro, I got tiger blood.

I'm getting ready to start up college, as far as I want to go I am taking Computer Science with application in programming (C++). The way it looks this is the best way to go with most computer degree. Take Computer Science as the major and apply yourself in the paart you want to be in.
