Premiere Pro - my nightmare
« on: June 26, 2005, 01:38:07 am »
So I loaded up the my Adobe Premiere Pro for the first time in a while to discover it would no longer run. It gave me some general error about a possible codec malfunction. I needed to upgrade anyway, so I downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and installed it. Now I've run into a whole lot of problems...

I only have one editing mode: HDV Playback. The others simply don't exist. I guess it is reading that I can't edit in the other modes. This also prevents me from changing the resolution.

Even though I can start one of these HDV editing projects, they don't accept gifs nor avi. I managed to import an mpg, but when I tried to render it crashes - everytime.

I've reinstalled a million times, in safe mode and all that jazz. I've deleted several codecs, since my guess is that there is some video software interfering. I've searched Adobe's forums and knowledge base (which are both a mess) and have not run across anything helpful. Until I get my Premiere Pro working, we cannot start on the video projects, so somebody who knows what's going on help me!

I remember some other programs hiding the input type.
Standard input types are now DV, and if you can change that to analogue or something, you should be able to accept these other movie types... hopefully.

Codecs are always a pain in the neck.
IF you aint sure what you got installed (individual codecs) go CONTROL PANEL > SOUNDS > HARDWARE TAB > AUDIO CODECS.

You might want to try upgrading your mobo chipset drivers too.

Yeah, when I choose the preset loadouts for DV, it says "Editing mode: not available" in the description. DV should be the default one installed, but it isn't there at all...

I'm still massive problems with this. I downloaded the tryout version straight from Adobe (the one without HDV) and got the error "Could not find any valid editing modes". I looked up the problem and found this:

http://www.2writers.com/PProFaq.pdf

I tried out EVERY method suggested and am still having the same problem. I even went as far as to attempt to delete every video codec. I downloaded a DirectShow cleaner that corrected a few errors (probably from me deleting codec files) and a registry cleaner. I'm seriously out of ideas besides just reformating, and I'm not about to go through that hellish process.

Premiere Pro USED to work on my system. I did something that b0rked it up. Now I have to fix it. HELP!

How do I figure out what chipset I have? I went to Intel's website and downloaded a chipset identification utility. I ran it and these were the results:

Memory Controller:

Failed to identify your chipset

I/O Controller:

Failed to identify your ICH

Integrated Graphics:
 Not Detected or Disabled

:S

If you START > RUN > DXDIAG, on the main page, you may see SYSTEM MODEL: this may show your mainboard model number... sometimes missing depending on system.

Well, you can download something like http://www.tssc.de/index.htm ... this will check all hardware in your system. It can give the MANUFACTURER ID and DEVICE ID, ie 8086 = INTEL MANUFACTURER 3444 = ?? HARDWARE!! Just do a search, and it will come up "Intel Pro 100 VE Network Card" or something.

The other option is open the side of the PC, and look for model number.

Good luck!

Yeah, I updated the chipset. I had to download a different program to do it, but it was an Intel chip, so why didn't Intel's detect it? AND it didn't help.

I'm thinking maybe I should give up and download a different video editing program, but something tells me I'll run into the same problem no matter what software I use since they all are fundamentally the same.

Holy crap I got it working...

I ended up downloading a program called Sherlock the Codec Detective and saw ffdshow was bugged out. I reinstalled it and voila! Now I just have to go get some of my other codecs back because I have nothing. Lol - but I now have DV and Video for Windows editing modes!

Yeah, I'm currently trying to remember what settings worked best for Premiere. Hmm...I should have a test video up soon.
